Cuz if so, I got some questions.

Avid = 80%
Vegas = 90%
My usage of either = 40%

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk. In/Out points inserted, ripple delete.

I've worked with Avid, although I really didn't like the last version I was on. Way too clunky how they manage the timeline shifting. FCP is so much easier (and Vegas too, I suspect).

Edited 5-6 films on Avid in the very same comp labs you're prolly working from Jeremy (Zemeckis? or on campus?), two years ago. You can ask me whatever; I still have the stolen manual one of my friends gave me before I had to take 290 (the grad equivalent to 507? i think)...

...but it's extremely likely i won't be any help, as i've forgotten everything since then.

btw, if this long-haired dude named Aaron still works in the lab tell him i said 'sup.

might help more

There's an Avid in the corner of my office, and I'm the guy who "knows" how to use it, haha. But I doubt I could answer a question, because we only do the most basic stuff and I think I'd need to be in front of it fiddling to get a solution (if I could find one).

jeremy, what are your questions? my neighbor is a film editor

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Right, that was a mistake, clicking on this thread, as I know not what the fuck avid and vegas are. I thought it was about Avid Merrion and Johnny Vegas.

Nick H (Nick H), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually -- since this thread I figured out my problem. I was importing very large still images into Avid, and had to figure out how to pan / zoom around on them without a hugely noticable loss of quality. I figured it out; it's a terrifically roundabout procedure and I'm switching permenantly to Vegas now.

The new Premiere Pro is pretty good.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 28 October 2004 04:54 (twenty-one years ago)

five months pass...
Looks like Post Production Video/Film editing is what I want to do next, careerwise. Fortunately, I have plenty of flat-bed editor experience from college and FCP experience from my last job. Don't know Avid, though, and it's the "industry standard", it seems, so I'll have to take a class. Anyone here know if paying $800 for an intensive weekend training course in Avid Media Composer is worthwhile or is it a foolish waste of $$?

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

If you have FCP experience, you will find Avid pretty easy to pick up. (I'd maybe look for a cheaper class).

(Also Avid is no longer the solid "industry standard" it used to be)

(Learn After Effects instead and use it to complement your FCP skillz - most editors I know didn't learn AE, to the detriment of their careers)

(parentheses are great)

all you need to get by in L.A. is a razor blade and some scotch tape, really.

PS - splice tape != scotch tape

Girolamo Savonarola, Thursday, 14 April 2005 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

scotch tape works well!
