Well? If not, why not?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Of bloody course.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

they're a bit too racey for me

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Certainly not, i am a vegetarian.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

neigh

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:28 (twenty-one years ago)

How about a dog-meat sausage?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Depends on the dog, I'd imagine. Horsemeat sossies are presumably made from horses reared commercially for the purpose. Would this be the case with yr putative 'hot dog'?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread is getting pretty calumy.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess if I was hungry. what kind of thread is this?

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"How would you know you're in a porn movie?"

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:31 (twenty-one years ago)

porn, horse meat sausages

do we really need anything else?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

mustard?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i didn't think it through

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

yes I would, and have done on a couple of occasions.

Next up: Donkey salami, just like they used to make, I wish I could find some.

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

donkey rhubarb?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

donkey donuts

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

On a moral stance, assuming yr not a vege, why would you NOT eat a horse, dog or even cat-meat sausage?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

it could be your horse or mine

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

All the more reason to ensure it a loving salivary reception.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

nick i think this is a bit of a strawman round here. those of who eat meat are happy scoffing all of god's creatures :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread is getting pretty calumy.

stop with this calumny already.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I came across someone on another messageboard who said "I like all sausages except French ones because I hear they make them with horses!" and I thought it was nuts. I guess I should have known ILX would happily munch any meat going.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't, and I'm not a vegetarian. This is probably because I grew up riding horses and see them more as pets/companions than as livestock. I wouldn't eat a cat or dog either.

sgs (sgs), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I would eat horse, but not a horse sausage. I like my meat to resemble the thing it was killed from.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree with carsmile. surely it's fairly obvious, to all of us, that the reasons people wouldn't eat a horse are purely rooted in conservatism and tradition based around the fact that the role of the horse in society has been as a vehicle for transport and not a source of food. I mean is anyone actually going to take the bait here and cry outrage. I seriously doubt it.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

How about if it was a giant long sausage that the chef had shaped to resemble a horse? Like a balloon animal made of meat?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I got run over by a horse on my 4th birthday, that fact that they're tasty makes the revenge all the sweeter.

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

How about if it was a giant long sausage that the chef had shaped to resemble a horse? Like a balloon animal made of meat?

Make this happen NOW! No, it's just the fact that I find all sausage a bit gross.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

no.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

if it's served to me i'll eat it sure, but i wouldn't spend too much energy seeking it out. i prefer seeing cats alive really cos they're cute. has anyone eaten a giraffe? imagine asking for giraffe steak at a restaruant. That'd be a tall order.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not a vegetarian, and I won't eat veal, lamb or even venison. Not sure why, but the idea disgusts me.

From a Land of Grass Without Mirrors (AaronHz), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I came across someone on another messageboard who said "I like all sausages except French ones because I hear they make them with horses!" and I thought it was nuts.

well horse meat does taste a bit like nuts.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

or rabbit, or possum or squirrel...
Beef, fish, pork and poultry is as far as I go, and I don't even like beef and pork all that much.

From a Land of Grass Without Mirrors (AaronHz), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't eat rat.

I am sorry to hear about your equestrian accident, Porky. Well, sorry isn't really the right word. What I mean to say is, TELL US MORE! Make it up if necessary.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm actually quite interested in what mouse meat tastes like, actually.. all that cheese that they eat! i like to think that it'd ooze through their muscle structure and they end up having naturally cheddar infused meat.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

...imagine asking for giraffe steak at a restaruant. That'd be a tall order.

It's "jokes" like this that give meat-eaters a bad name.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't believe, in sausages.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

...imagine asking for giraffe steak at a restaruant. That'd be a tall order.
It's "jokes" like this that give meat-eaters a bad name.

er.. you can do similar jokes with veggie meals.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Imagine asking for a giant redwood tree salad in a restaraunt; that'd be a tall order.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i went to a veggie restaurant once and they charged me for the rocket in the salad. The bill was astronomical.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

the rocket burnt a hole in my wallet

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

bagels are always good to eat in restaurants, they're so holesome.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Shut your pie-hole already!

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

there was this nice cafe that served the best tomato soup ever, it's awesome, AND they had a chessboard on each table so you can play chess at the same time. Me and my friend went there once and my friend had a sandwich, the waiter came to ask how it was and she said "the soup was great, but the bread was stale, mate"

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

my friend had a soup, i mean.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

kill me him all of us now...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry about that.

i guess if i were vegetarian i would have been able to make some better puns. because vegetarianism and pun-making are obviously related things

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

how would you know you're in a pawn movie (esp. if you can't pronounce it differently)?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a horse sausage in Amsterdam, it was quite tasty served with a nice garlic dip.

I've never been anywhere that sold cats or dogs (officially, that is. The "disappeared" house pets allegedly sold from Chinese takeaways in Scotland don't count).

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

a pwn movie??

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I would eat a horse-meat sausage, just to be relevant.

Am I suspecting correctly that the lady be named Catherine?

You could be onto something!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 29 October 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

A few friends of mine visited me when I was in Warsaw a few years ago and stayed at my grandparents', where they were served, among other things, horse kielbasa. My grandfather claimed it was pork at the time and didn't own up until a few months later. He says he prefers horse these days, as it's leaner.

the krza (krza), Friday, 29 October 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

(Which, I guess, would be the argument against horse for me. But I couldn't really tell by the taste, so whatever.)

the krza (krza), Friday, 29 October 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I eat horse meat fairly often.
I also enjoy puns.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Friday, 29 October 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

On a moral stance, assuming yr not a vege, why would you NOT eat a horse, dog or even cat-meat sausage?

The rule as I understand it is not to eat animals that are carnivores or omnivores. The risk of disease is too great. Horses are herbivores of course, but we don't eat them because they have too many other uses -- transportation, etc. Also, I'd imagine horse meat is a bit sinewy. You'd need a nice fat horse for it to taste any good.

two years pass...
So... if everyone in the UK is as open minded as the ILXors on this thread, what's the big deal about Gordon Ramsay telling Britain that horse meat is actually quite healthy?

(I never thought about it, here in Belgium it's not weird at all)

StanM, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe they thought he said "whore's meat"?

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

the rule is not to eat anything that eats meat. So whore's meat is right out.

kenan, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

So... if everyone in the UK is as open minded as the ILXors on this thread

I think you probably know that the answer is staring you right in the face....

Vicky, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

I know I said it before upthread, but I really love horse.

Michael White, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

I was about to type "ooh I've had a horse-meat sausage!" then I realised I already did, 2 years ago.

Anyway, I have no objection to horsemeat being sold and cooked and scoffed in teh UK.

Yes, but I'd rather have a horse steak. -- Madchen
Aren't horses a bit on the muscular side for steaks?

I can't decide if I would try dog or cat if I was somewhere where it was readily eaten without fuss.

onimo, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 18:06 (nineteen years ago)

Would you eat a horse's sausage-meat?
