Drunk and In Tears, or How do you plan to spend U.S. Election Night, 2004?

What channel will you watch? Go out or stay in? Drinking games? Food? Riotous and rowdy or serious and studious? Tell me how you plan to spend what could be one of the most important elections in recent times. I have invited over many, many friends, where we shall feast and guzzle flipping, I imagine between CNN, PBS and BBC, with the obligatory sidetrip to the Daily Show. I am seriously dreading Wednesday morning and I'm not talking politics.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Whisky buffet at my house with pals.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

MICKEY'S + DAILY SHOW

THAT Adam Levine (deangulberry), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

My gf and I figured that whatever the outcome we would end up slightly sozzled and teary so we might as well invite the gang round for solidarity.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

My current plan: I will go home, vote at the local booth, go back to the apartment, leave the computer off, not turn on the radio and either just read or watch a movie for the rest of the evening.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Deanbullgary,

You talkin' Mickey's Bigmouths?

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, and KFC.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned,

You are either a man of great insight and civilization with the resolve of a saint or a possible soiopathic serial killer. I haven't decided. (Hope I'm not limiting your career paths too radically there.)

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

soiopaths, they'd be dangerous if it weren't for the scurvy.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I could be both. (Essentially I would like a calm night's sleep, but I'm sure I'll break down and briefly check in before going to bed.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Mickey's is a capital idea.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

MICKEY'S WHATEVER 40S GRENADES ALL OF IT

If Kerry wins, I will be out of control with drunken tears of joy.

If Bush wins, I will be out of control with the rage that only malt liquor can provide.

THAT Adam Levine (deangulberry), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Moderately priced Rhone red is a commune idea.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Will probably switch between watching the news and "The Daily Show" and looking at www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca.

Nemo (JND), Friday, 29 October 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

the rage that only malt liquor can provide.

You haven't had arak.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

In a house with hippies, booze, beer, los druggos, very large screened televisions (plural), food food food, cable TV, internet access, and firearms; this is where I will spend Election Eve.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

hippies and firearms?

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

In preparation for tuesday I drank a 40 of this last night.

Do you guys have a suicide pact or something? xpost to nicka

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Nemo, While you are looking at moving to the lovely but rather chilly North, I shall be contemplating spending some time either in France or los Estados Unidos de Mexico.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

With Dizzee Rascal in Bristol.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

They are LIBERTARIAN HIPPIES. It's not a suicide pact, more like a POSSIBLY DECLARING THE HOUSE A SOVEREIGN NATION AT 0800 HOURS.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

PACT.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

What part of Mendocino do you live in nickalicious? ;)

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Lasagna, beer/wine/booze, 6 or so friends, 3 TVs, constant Kos/Atrios/DU checking, and hopefully, a helluva lot of celebration.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

going to the boy's house to take advantage of digital cable. stare at the returns all night, constantly changing channels and checking various websites. we are taking the day after off of work, good or bad. or unknown.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Yo amo Mexico tambien.

Nemo (JND), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I will probably cook up a nice dinner, catch a movie, and then watch the Daily Show. I don't want to check the results until the Daily Show comes on, I will be a hysterical wreck if I were to keep checking on updates all day. I guess that will probably mean staying away from ilx on Tues.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to be in FRANCE!!

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be in France at the end of November and I hope we have a president by then, but I don't think this election will quite as close as 2000.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm hoping it's not close at all, or this whole mess probably won't be decided til December or January.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

PARTY AT KENAN'S! Which means I'll probably be dead drunk by 10:30 and at home passed out in bed by 10:40.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Hopefully we'll have a president by then. Pray with me...

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Kenan and I will be holding each other.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

no.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

...with sexy results!

x-post

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

at least, not unless john joins in. MANPILE!

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I was figuring on The Daily Show and whatever I've got in my fridge. But I just heard that the Po-emcees (and a to-be-named VIP artist) will be at the 9:30, so I might hit that instead.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

the Po-emcees (and a to-be-named VIP artist)

Dan finally collaborates with his brother! (On a cover of "2112".)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm voting in the morning & going to an art class in the evening & be home in time to see the Daily Show.. I plan to ignore the returns until Weds morning, at which time I will either be elated or begin removing all sources of current-event media from my life.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

ill be at psychic tv/babyland show

big chaki (chaki), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahah, Chaki wins!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Late into work Tuesday, late home, lots of coffee, stay up throughout the night, Wednesday off work.

I'm five hours ahead of New York here - I can't remember from last time the precise chronology of events. Once a state has counted enough precincts to make a good stab at an overall winner, do they declare? Do the east coast states declare first? Approx what time is rush-hour for results coming in? I'm imagining it'll be at least 4am GMT before anything substantial happens, but I suspect there's exit polls and all kinds of projection fun before then.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 29 October 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

daily show, beer, abc news.

hopefully in a group of folks at pub, or, with group of ACT folks, and celebrating with the cute organizer chick.

plus, the vote tabulatin' begins before i get out of work, so i'll guess listening to air america/npr on the way home.

4 years ago, a bunch of us sat around & watched "American Psycho" and flipping to the news during bathroom breaks.

it seemed oddly appropiate.

Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Friday, 29 October 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

watching my los angeles lakers begin their valiant defense of their hard-won western conference championship. it's a great time to be alive.

dan (dan), Friday, 29 October 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Whisky buffet at my house with pals.

The more I think about this, the better it sounds. Will you have a scotch, irish, single malt, blended, canadian, bourbon FITE?

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 29 October 2004 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i've been invited to an election party, but i think i'll be wound a bit too tight to be around company. i may vote early and begin drinking, so i don't have to be sober when my belief in democracy/reason/the future is mercilessly crushed by tim russert's ez-wipe board.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 29 October 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

...or not! C'mon!

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 29 October 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i've been off my happy pills for a coupla weeks now, so i will most likely start to cry at either result.

whether or not i also throw the bottle/pint glass i'm drinking depends on the turnout, too.

Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Friday, 29 October 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

mookieproof, I hope you won't be cross with me, but I have sent your jack o'lantern photo out to all my friends.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 29 October 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

at least, not unless john joins in. MANPILE!

Only if I get to smear you both with cheesecake.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 29 October 2004 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Kigfish OTM. Turnout is U & K.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 29 October 2004 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

drunk

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 29 October 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael, I'm guessing that after the 2000 debacle, networks will be a lot more cautious this year with declaring states for a candidate.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 29 October 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Are there any open air places or bars in New York people could recommend?

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 29 October 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really have tv and don't feel like going to a bar necessary, so I'll most likely stay at home with my girlfriend drinking beer and refreshing the internet.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 29 October 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

"if we say somebody's carried a state, you can pretty much take it to the bank, book it, that that's true" - dan rather, election night 2000
