If EVERYBODY says Xmas is too commercial...

... and it should return to a time of values and tradition, how come it's still the gross, bloated spendfest it is now?

If everyone expresses outrage at the abuse of antibiotics, how come so many parents still force them down their kid's throats, even though every expert on TV tell you not to take them for a cold?

Why is it always SOMEONE ELSE and not us?

(Rubberneckers at freeway accidents are ALWAYS someone else and never us.)

I am a rubbernecker. You can blame me for that.

Because EVERYONE doesn't say that.

I don't think it's commercial enough. There is far too much religion still dragged into it for my tastes.

I just bought Luther Campbell's Christmas LP.

I take antibiotics constantly so I don't have to go to the hospital and cry myself to sleep.

I spend money I don't have at Christmas.

BRING IT ON!

I loooooove Christmas, and since I'm a godless heathen, I don't care if it's commercialized or not. Christmas is all about the weather and Nat King Cole and pretty lights and snuggling.

A-men.

I'll see you all in hell, choking on McEggnog & amoxycillin, you godless rubberneckers.

andy, Friday, 29 October 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like to make it less commerical, and with me and Jenny, it's easy. We just don't do any type of celebrations or gifting between each other, which is super nice. The problem comes in that we both have large extended families, and they are going to send us crap regardless, despite our wishes to recieve nothing during the holidays. We try to return the favor in the best way we can, either by making donations to charity in their names, or at the very least getting our immediate families a small gift. Hopefully, it will be easier to distance ourselfs from this as we get older.

I much prefer bdays, what better day to celebrate than on the day someone you care about was born.

I think you'll find Christmas fulfils that function for Christians.

But yeah, over commercialised, lost-all-meaning nonsense. And office Christmas parties. Bah humbug. Still, fortnight off work, can't be all bad.

I get a week off and thought that was a good deal!

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 30 October 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Not quite a fortnight - off on the 24th, not back until the 5th January. Scottish Bank Holiday falling on the Sunday, innit?
