Definitely, definitely don't worry yet. As I understand, smear tests throw up abnormal results quite often, and chances are it'll be harmless.

Try, if you possibly can, to put it out of your mind until you know more.

Wow. Scary. Just try to be supportive of her, and be as positive as you can. You can have scary indications and still turn out perfectly healthy, as I'm living proof. Hope it all works out for her!

Yeah, to echo Cathy and Kate all you can do is be supportive, and try and distract yourselves as much as possible - organise some days out, but ask first (in case that's the last thing they want to do). It's tough knowing what to do when a friend or family member has or could have cancer, for me I found being positive about the whole situation was the best I could do. If it's caught early then that's good news. Best wishes.

My girlfriend (and I) just went through this, and it turns out she's okay. Regardless of the results though, just be supportive.

My g/f has had plenty of abnormal results, and nothing's come of it, if that helps. Of course there's little you can do but be there, really. All the best to you and your friend.

thanks everyone. putting it out of my mind makes me appear like a selfish-prick to anyone else who knows and I tried to be supportive to her but her response makes me sounds like I'm just reeling out strings of words instead of feelings expressed (..not a nice feeling..). something has snapped inside, and she's asked me to "LEAVE!" till the biopsy results come in and then we can decide what to do in the long run. we have a rather intense relationship and have never been apart. she wants to go through this on her own and I can't argue with what she feels. and right now, we can't talk. we're both still reeling. sorry to have sounded melodramatic

(also does anyone have a spare room in london for a night or two)

Sorry to hear about this. She has indeed had an exteme reaction to this & you need to talk to her about this. (Obviously afterwards not at the moment.) It could be nothing, so my best advice is to wait & see. best of luck

whatever the results of the biopsy, something's changed

Change can be good. How you react to and accommodate it is key.

when will she find out the results? maybe she hasn't ever dealt with anything like this before & hence the extreme reaction. she may need you if the results aren't good.
