So - is anyone else periodically checking the news to see if we've been attacked today?

I really don't feel any sort of uneasiness or anxiety about an election-altering attack on the US today - but intellectually, I'd say there's a good chance of it happening - So i was just wondering if anyone else is thinking about it at all.

I'm thinking about the fact that red Smarties are made with crushed beetles.

Momus (Momus), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:59 (nineteen years ago) link

Smarties are chocolate in Australia?

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:01 (nineteen years ago) link

Momus' obsession makes more sense

Dadaismus (Dada), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:01 (nineteen years ago) link

Is that better or worse than being made from crushed Beatles?

Charlie Rose (Charlie Rose), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:05 (nineteen years ago) link

i'm more worried that maybe Smarties were made to crush red beetles

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:07 (nineteen years ago) link

on the other hand, i like to think that beetles were made by sticking tiny wiggling legs to red Smarties.

"Better red smarties than dead"

These colors don't run (because they aren't made with little beetle-legs):

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:17 (nineteen years ago) link

I'll bet the red ones are

Dadaismus (Dada), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:18 (nineteen years ago) link

Mmm, Smarties.

Peanuts (Peanuts), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:21 (nineteen years ago) link

So apparently, we're being attacked by candy name-stealers today. However, the attackers have a point: Chocolate+beetles >>> compressed sugar.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:25 (nineteen years ago) link

And if the Brroklyn Bridge bites it today, the top half of this thread is going to look awfully silly.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:27 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm thinking about the fact that red Smarties are made with crushed beetles.

*shrugs* The terms "natural flavoring" and "natural coloring" encompass a lot of things you might not want to think about while you're eating.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:40 (nineteen years ago) link

So is it rockets or Smarties which are beetle riffic?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:48 (nineteen years ago) link

And if the Brroklyn Bridge bites it today, the top half of this thread is going to look awfully silly.

if the Brooklyn Bridge bites the beetles today, the top half of it would look awfully silly in red.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:53 (nineteen years ago) link

So Canadians call Smarties "Rockets"?

What is a Lion bar called in America, because that's what I really want and I don't think anyone sells them here.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:04 (nineteen years ago) link

The US Smarties are made in Canada!

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:07 (nineteen years ago) link

and sold to the Middle East

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:07 (nineteen years ago) link

Did they ever find Saddam's stockpiles of Smarties, by the way?

Peanuts (Peanuts), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:10 (nineteen years ago) link

They were raided by insurgents. Chocalate candies (or are they compressed sugar) is in the hands of the enemy.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:12 (nineteen years ago) link

Meanwhile, apparently Charmes http://thm-b.search.vip.re2.yahoo.com/image/707069940 are considered bad luck by marines, and they toss them out the window when they find them in their MREs. True story.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:13 (nineteen years ago) link

What is a Lion bar called in America

Judging from a brief google, Twix seems to be the U.S. counterpart to the Lion Bar.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:13 (nineteen years ago) link

Wow, derailed from the first post. Good job.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:15 (nineteen years ago) link

what about 5alive? in america it's called FAAAHHHHHHHHHVE ALLAAAAHHHHHHVE

SEE THE INCLUSION OF "ALLAH" IN THE NAME!!! IT'S A POISON MADE BY THE MUSLIMS TO CORRUPT THE MINDS OF THE PEOPLE OF JUSTICE!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:15 (nineteen years ago) link

Twix is only half of what a Lion bar is. Twix does not have the crunchy cereal (like a 100 grand) and the wafers are wrong. 100 grand is closer, but no wafer.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:15 (nineteen years ago) link

We have Twix over here in the U of K, it's very different to a Lion bar.

The thing you call Smarties and rockets - do we call them Swizzlers or something?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:18 (nineteen years ago) link

Switzers + Twizzlers = Swizzlers. Red licorice.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:20 (nineteen years ago) link

are they not refreshers?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:30 (nineteen years ago) link

And of course over here we have Refreshers AND Refresher Bars!

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:47 (nineteen years ago) link

at the Trick or Vote event last night, we got Smarties with "Rock the Vote" written on the packaging...

Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Monday, 1 November 2004 19:43 (nineteen years ago) link

what are refreshers? are they candy filled with nicely chilled spring water?
