because i haven't really looked at any of them (save for the chicago thread) for at least a week. it all looks like chatty bullshit. but maybe i'm missing something. tell me if i am. i'll be happy if i'm not. missing anything, that is.

I'd like to think mine are all particularly engaging and mentally stimulating, but I fear some might beg to differ on that point.

which ones????

amateur!!st, Monday, 1 November 2004 17:09 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm a big fan of your picture threads, Alex. The perfect way to spend a sleepless night.

Wooden (Wooden), Monday, 1 November 2004 17:10 (nineteen years ago) link

Well, they're usually composed during sleepless nights (my overnight shifts), so thanky.

amateur!!st, Monday, 1 November 2004 17:22 (nineteen years ago) link

What do you find interesting Amateurist?

jel -- (jel), Monday, 1 November 2004 17:31 (nineteen years ago) link

the french

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 09:18 (nineteen years ago) link

Unless you find it hilarious when people who know each other make lame jokes at each other then, no, it's pathetic and frustrating. The Noize board is genuinely funny but ILE is now like the Noise board for people who can't hack it on the Noise board.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 13:59 (nineteen years ago) link

No offense, but while I'm glad that the Noize board exists, I don't see either it or this board as being the standard while the other one is the lame and/or useless adjunct.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:01 (nineteen years ago) link

i like the board still, obviously, but that is the way i'm seeing it more and more re. the callum threads and so on (which i know you take little to do with so it's not a crticism of you) it just seems to me that other people's responses to those threads are more telling than callum's input.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:15 (nineteen years ago) link

I guess people just acclimatise to Calum's crap, Jed. I've noticed you being quite curmudgeonly in recent months - are you coming close to moving on, do you think?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:16 (nineteen years ago) link

People aren't acclimatised to Calum, that much is obvious from every time he starts a thread and the same people can't resist piling back in again and again with the same brand of lame insults and lamer humour.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:19 (nineteen years ago) link

Well, that's kind of what I mean. The outrage and disgust has been replaced by just taking the piss and floccipaucinihilipilificating the thread.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:20 (nineteen years ago) link

i would be sad if jed moved on.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:22 (nineteen years ago) link

xpost - That sounds pretty acclimatised to me.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:22 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah your right markelby and it's confusing to me too, for some reason i have become quite attatched to the threads that piss me off more, i need to get out more obviously (or just read other threads ;)

thanks Lauren!

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:28 (nineteen years ago) link

jed don't go!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:28 (nineteen years ago) link

Not really, amateur!!st.

Leon in Exile (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:30 (nineteen years ago) link

most threads have been pretty shit on ile lately.. so not much has changed really.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:35 (nineteen years ago) link

There's plenty of good stuff there. It's a bit prolific a lot of the time, and sometimes it can be hard to find, but I find it's always worth reading/looking at.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:36 (nineteen years ago) link

oh i like it really.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:38 (nineteen years ago) link

So do I, I guess.

Leon in Exile (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:40 (nineteen years ago) link

> floccipaucinihilipilificating

is that like flocciNauchinihilipificating? 8)

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:44 (nineteen years ago) link

... it's the new "teh"

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:45 (nineteen years ago) link

it's hard to express -i just need to remove myself emotionally from it while i am reading it. Has anyone else gone through a period where they become unnaturally attatched to the board and therefore unnaturally upset by any slight criticism or insult? how do you deal with it? am i nuts?

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:47 (nineteen years ago) link

Koogs, no, nothing like it - mine is right and yours is wrong.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:49 (nineteen years ago) link

Okay, having googled, seems we're both right. Hurrah!

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:50 (nineteen years ago) link

I blame Walter Scott

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:52 (nineteen years ago) link

jed - I think many posters have had periods where they are posting a bit too much so don't worry about it you're not nuts.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 15:02 (nineteen years ago) link

Julio is right. You might want to take a break, it's up to you.

Leon in Exile (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 15:03 (nineteen years ago) link

maybe...but I think you should try to cut it down the reading slowly...take it from the main page and select threads carefully, don't look at the new answers page.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 15:12 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah, cos this thread is really interesting... how's kerry doin then?

d.arraghmac, Tuesday, 2 November 2004 15:25 (nineteen years ago) link

I've tried my best to re-introduce some banality to ILE.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 17:40 (nineteen years ago) link

i really liked the diversity of threads on ILX today.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 17:26 (nineteen years ago) link

i'm glad you were still able to fulfil your daily lame pun quota (mwah!)

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 17:35 (nineteen years ago) link

i have so not fulfilled the quota. i was hoping dadaismus would help me pun for the presidency.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 17:37 (nineteen years ago) link

11 new threads in a row on the same topic (and 5 more with "seinfeld on DVD" as a breakwater). none about constipation. Bush has defeated us.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 17:41 (nineteen years ago) link

the terrorists have thrown it back

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 17:55 (nineteen years ago) link
