Why do we have such crappy public holidays in the UK (and not enough of them). Back in italy they'd down tools for the littlest thing, rublic, freedon, liberation from the nazis, and some other things i never found out what for, us has thanksgiving et al, and we have nothing but 3 crappy bank holidays.

What we need are some good things to celbrate so lets have some ideas

and Wazzock Day, which is 29th Feb. but that only comes round once every 4 years, so that's a bit crappy too.

there's an extra Bank Holiday next year for the Golden Jubilee, assuming the Queen is still around...

Vodafone Day!

The major corporate monoliths could each sponsor a day of the year - unprecedented publicity, and all they'd have to pay would be that day's salaries for every man, woman and child in the country. If you disapproved of said monolith you could put in a full day's work. It'd sort the hypocrites anyway.

Aren't there 6 bank hols? I don't even get them off. Sainsbury's makes you work them. I don't have days off anyway. I'm either at college or at work. I suspect this is unhealthy.

Ed you mentalist the UK shuts down ENTIRELY between c.Dec 21 and Jan 7: in the US they haf to work on XMAS EVE and BOXING DAY (when the servant classes get presents here — if not time off hem hem).
