Chewy Werther's Originals - C or D?

Being a fan of the taste but not the texture of the boiled Werther's Original Original, I was expecting great things. Disappointment. Lacking the creaminess of the Werther's Original Original. Has anyone any happier experience?

I was going to tack this on the end of the 'Chocolate' thread but I couldn't find it... anyway, new answers.

I want to be like the people in the Chewy Werther's Original advert when I grow up.

I don't want to be like the people in the Werther's Original Original advert, though. That would be pervy.

Chewy Werther's Original != original ... rubbish. Also piss poor ads w/no creepy old man who you just know is going to ask you if you want to see some puppies sooner or later.

b-b-b-but it *doesn't* = original. Is CHEWY! The adverts have younger types wearing soft clothes in primary COLOURS!

Old man in original Werther's Original accent = Nazi. Proof.

a) Werther's Originals have been on sale for five years, and yet Gramps suggests that he had them as a boy. He could have only been doing this if he was either rewriting history (common Nazi trait) or grew up in a different country. A seconds research shows that Werther's is a Germany company.

b) He loves his blonde haired, blue eyed gransdson just that little bit TOO much. The subtext is obviously that he his proud of him as being the progenitor of an Arayan master-race.

So I don't eat them, cos as the Dead Kennedy's said "Nazi Sweets, Fuck Off".

Pete you bastard I'm giggling all over the screen and now everyone is eyeing me like I'm some kind of wierdo or something :-)

I often feel like some of you are about to offer me some. I also have blonde hair and blue eyes actually so maybe.

the Original Original advert was changed though, wasn't it? In the older one, the old guy says "I can still remember the first sweets given to me my grandfather; they were Werther's Original and I was FOUR". We then get the spiel about him having a little difficulty with the shiny wrapper etc and it ends with the "Now I'm the grandfather" line and the bit about how he likes to give Original to his grnadson, coz "He's someone special too, you know". He then precedes to kiss the boy on the top of the head and the boy says, "Ah!" The boy in this version has straight hair.

In the newer version, the boy has curly hair, the reminiscing line is changed to "I can still remember the first sweets given to me my grandfather; they were Werther's Original and I was JUST A BOY" and the old codger doesn't kiss the grandson on the top of the head. So why was the advert changed? Was a curly haired child considered more cherubic? Was the mention of the child's age considered unacceptable? Was the kiss on the top of the head considered unacceptable and if so, why wasn't the ad just re-shot without this offending part? And have I been paying this rather too much attention?

I think there's an American equivalent ad or something, but I could be wrong. All I know is that whenever I mention American candies you people over there laugh at me.
