Bob Mills- Classic Or Dud.

I was looking at some old video tapes the other day, and found a couple of episodes of Mills' 1992-1997 running TV show "In Bed With Me Dinner", wherein he basically does what Harry Hill tries to do on "TV Burp" without coming across as a complete prick. Other highlights included some of the best bad prop gags in history, and the mighty "Casualty Locations Manager", where he just pointed at some rubbish and explained how it could form a casualty plot.

Also: The Show, his meta-chat show from the late 90s (half talk show, half fly on the wall documentary about the making of a chat show), and Win Lose or Draw, which, let's be honest, was pretty shoddy. According to IMDB, he was also the producer on Bob Martin. I don't know what he's doing nowadays, but I'm going to guess that he's probably a DJ on a London radio station.

So, yeah: slightly-cleaned up Danny Baker or underrated telly genius of the 90s? Discuss.

I always thought he was really awful. "In Bed With Me Dinner" was shit. Total shit. Shit. Wasn't it?

I didn't hate IBWMD - he'd structure gags around repetition of clips like Hill does and do it reasonably well (but then I don't find Hill a complete prick). It was a vaguely annoying show and my opinion of him sunk a bit when he stood in for Danny Baker on Radio LDN a few months ago and was dreadful. Zero rapport with Baker's studio team (I'll stop short of calling them a posse) and a droning, miserable, grumbly style that was either a deliberate attempt to do an anti-breakfast show or an indication that he'd been dragged out of bed to do it at an hour's notice. Perhaps not as excruciating as Danny La Rue in the same role, but close.

Not Danny La Rue, Lionel Blair! Sorry, Danny...

i never liked that show because it should have been called "In Bed With My Doner"

(or "Boner", if you want to be really crass)

Oh no, this was more bad-tempered and whiny. Really terrible radio. Maybe it got better after I turned it off and went to work.

His analysis of the Graham Taylor documentary has been quoted so often, the source (i.e. his program "in bed with..") has been forgotten. That one prog was the one I accidentaly saved on video. That one was the classic.

I liked the back stageyness of the show, especially when they showed the production team being told they hadn't got another series.pisces OTM about Danny.
I also liked IBWMD purely because he turned reality TV on its head, seeing it not as a reflection of average people but as a carnival of the stupid and inbred.

carried Win Lose Or Draw entirely on his own for several weeks

And i remember watching a football video (it was before Euro 96) where he did a heroes and villians thing from the last however many years of the European champiopnship. His bias against the Germans was v. amusing - "Oh, here's an offside goal" he says as a German sends a screamer into the back of the net from 40yrds - and all the heroes seemed to be english.

The video was poor, but he was reasonably amusing, so I give him 4 thumbs up out of 10.

Just dreadful! Not funny in the least but seemed convinced that he was the planet's greatest comedian!

...when he was really just a tit!
