Would there be interest in a Top 100 Films of the 1990's Poll?

Just looking over Gear's recently concluded album poll, and I'm impressed.

Would we be up for a similarly-styled poll for films? Cause if so, I'd totally be up to putting it together.

Girolamo Savonarola, Thursday, 25 November 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

What, are you trying to compete with *my* poll??!!

Just kiddin', yeah, I'd be interested in a nineties film poll.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 25 November 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Cough

Its probably best to leave it for a bit, otherwise we'll be getting poll overkill I reckon.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 25 November 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

First of all, that's not (as I understand) a ranked poll with points and all. Second, it's not for just a single decade.

Girolamo Savonarola, Thursday, 25 November 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Third, some people don't read FT

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 25 November 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Fourth, FT is just the ILX 'leets.

Girolamo Savonarola, Thursday, 25 November 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Fifth, there is no such thing as poll overkill.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 25 November 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

C'mon, we're competing with a poll about words. I'm not worried. I can understand that music polls all the time on ILM might be a bit overkill. (Note, I have no idea if they poll much on ILM, so leave me to my straw man fantasies, thankyouverymuch!)

Girolamo Savonarola, Thursday, 25 November 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Poll:

(A) Top 100 Films of the 1990s Poll NOW!
(B) Top 100 Films of the 1990s Poll LATER!
(C) Top 100 Films of the 1990s Poll NEVER!
(C) Top 100 Films of the SUCK A FART COCK!

Remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 26 November 2004 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

It is the least interesting decade for films, with the likely exception of the one we're in now.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be interested in contributing...

Reading the results? That's another matter.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

It is the least interesting decade for films, with the likely exception of the one we're in now..... IN CRAZYLAND!

Snush (x Jeremy), Friday, 26 November 2004 06:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Both decade by decade polls and/or a top-100 poll would be interesting.

I call dibs on nominating Dazed & Confused if this happens.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Friday, 26 November 2004 07:23 (twenty-one years ago)

If anyone can come up with any compelling argument as to why this poll won't end up looking more or less like the IMDB '90s list, I'd love to hear it.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Sunday, 28 November 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I think a '90s list is a good idea. So would be an '80s list.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 28 November 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i think we should do a best film ever list as well sometime. the 90's poll is a start though

todd swiss (eliti), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

should we do this like the music lists seem to be going? start off with a '00-'04 list, followed by the '90s, the '80s, and so on?

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:42 (twenty-one years ago)

the IMDB list has Shawshank and Schindler's List at the top. I wouldn't expect either to crack the top 10 at ILE and that's being ridiculously generous. Actually, I wouldn't expect the ILX list to look anything at all like that one, except for Goodfellas being in the top-10. The Usual Suspects, Fight Club, LA Confidential and Seven don't stand a chance to be that high.

(that's assuming that the usual people talking about movies all vote and that lurker tastes are similar)

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 29 November 2004 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Gear, I think a '00-> list would be more problematic than it is with music, in that many of us see films on TV as much as at the cinema, so I have seen a far larger proportion of '90s films that are my kind of thing than I have of those from the last couple of years.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 29 November 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Did anyone catch C4's The Ultimate Film countdown at the weekend? It was a list the top 100 grossing films of all time, and guess who came top? Why, it was Robbie Williams!

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 29 November 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i loved him in Gandhi

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Monday, 29 November 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought ILX was collectively anti-rockist? What gives with all the fucking lists at the moment then? SECRET ROCKISTS!

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 29 November 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont give a shit about lists but i want to VOTE.

:| (....), Monday, 29 November 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

not so much of the secret

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Monday, 29 November 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a General Election next year. You can vote in that if you like.

Opinion polls currently suggest that the next General Election will be won by...Robbie Williams.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 29 November 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think Beauty and The Beast would be in the top 20 of ILX's poll, somehow.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 29 November 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Lurker tastes are not similar (chuckle...)

lurkingevilclone, Monday, 29 November 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Most of my favorite '90s films came from east Asia (Wong, Yang, Tsai) or Iran (Makhmalbaf, Kiarostami).

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

173. lethal weapon 4 (40 pts, 1 first place vote)

:| (....), Monday, 29 November 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Lethal Weapon 4 would be my #1 movie ever if it was just 2 hours of watching Jet Li kicking Mel Gibson and Rene Russo in the face.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Unfortunately that's only 5 seconds of the film so it basically sucks. Still.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

the rest is great too! they didnt even try to make the story work. just a couple of buddy-buddy scenes strung togehter that go nowhere. also the boss from johnny tos "the mission" is in it. and chris rock. and that scene with the lauhging gas, jesus.

:| (....), Monday, 29 November 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I would participate in this as I'm a total list whore.
