Those boots make no damned sense.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha ya know I was just making up the Chinatown thing, but now that I found out what Uggs are (thank you google), Adam you can find them (or uggs knock offs) in Chinatown so. . . ADAM GO TO CHINATOWN!

They are for my mother-in-law!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Come to Australia. Dime a dozen here in shitty markets everywhere. I bet any money you guys get ripped off for those things. I find it kinda funny they're such a fashion statement in the US - here, they have always represented the worst bogan slobbiness evah.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Er, which Jim just said, hah. I am slow.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam, you may want to try the 1980s.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

the what now?

adam... (nordicskilla), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that the famous decade that saw the release of Blondie's "Rapture"?

adam... (nordicskilla), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

My grandma wears Uggs!

:| (....), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:01 (twenty-one years ago)

They are for my mother-in-law!

Why does this sound like the beginning of a predictably lame American sit-com plot?

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i keep seeing girls wearing these! i think they might be cool now.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

They very well might be cool. They are indisputably vile.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Are these the ones with the fur inside? I tried some of those on and they were very comfortable.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure you were quite fetching in your comfortable shoes.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, yes I was!

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

OK no one has asked this so perhaps I am misunderstanding something but, adam, have you tried a shoe store?

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

SOLD OUT

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Sold out on teh internet and all over the Bay Area until February.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.uggs.com/

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the second or third shopping season there's been a run on this ghastly footwear, no?

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I remain deeply baffled and amused as to the sudden fashionability of these long-daggy items.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps you could crap into a plastic bag and tell her that those are Uggs since that would be an equivalent gift?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Or maybe you could nail rabid ermine to her feet?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

"Availability Update:

This particular model may have various colors and sizes on backorder. We fulfill our backorders on a first come first serve basis and hope to have all backorders fulfilled by March 4, 2005."

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I honestly have no idea. I just know that I need to find some Uggs. And soon!

Xpost Dan, would you do that to your own mother in law?

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

ADAM GO TO CHINATOWN AND YOU WILL FIND A VIRTUAL TREASURE OF BIZARRE MENORAHS AND SHITTY FOOTWARE!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I was serious about the menorahs, too.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you think I am joking?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

No. Maybe we should have a shitty Chinatown FAP?

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan, would you do that to your own mother in law?

No, but I wouldn't inflict Uggs on her, either. Clearly your standards are different from mine.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

We could go to the Lipo Lounge.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

At http://www.victoriassecret.com/ they still have UGGS clogs and some kind of knee high boot that is similar, a brand called EMU.

They're both suitably horribly ugly?

And Alex is OTM!!! Chinatown and the downtown area in NYC is full of both actual UGGS in somewhat sketchy offprice shoe shops and knock offs all over little Chinese vendors. I can't imagine it'd be different there.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

And buy you ugly footware.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

And crass religious paraphenalia.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Uggs clogs????????????????????????????????????????

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

No, but I wouldn't inflict Uggs on her, either. Clearly your standards are different from mine.

These are not MY standards we are discussing!

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Who is in charge of UGGS production and sales forecasting, they need some serious help. Where are they located?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Oz

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Uganda?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Uruguay?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahaha, gygax!

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Flagstaff, nevermind.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:23 (twenty-one years ago)

They're located in Flagstaff? No wonder, that's a shithole.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait, what? UGG are an Australian company!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Flagstaff, Australia.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't realize that Flagstaff was in Australia.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Although either way it's a shithole.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

uggs are called that because they are UGG-LY. for real.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought it was because they are UGG-TOTAL-SHIT.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Their US distibution is from Flagstaff...which is surely indicative of something but the comapny is out of Australia.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

So we're to assume that everyone who works for them has boomin' foot funk, right?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I would venture to say that (based on some other international industry information I'm privy to) that the US market probably outsells the OZ market 5:1. While the company was founded/is based in OZ, their Flagstaff offices are probably more the meat and potatoes of the global operation.

9y9@XXX! (gygax!), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Seeing as we are one of the only other countries with a large demographic equally devoted to asthetically repugnant footwear.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"I need to find some."

No — no you don't. Buy her some cheap ripoffs and be done with the whole sordid business.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

OR find some footwear that doesn't look like complete and total ass.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Tss. forgot the i. I blame her. She looks like Claudia Winkleman.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

She should tuck her bootcut jeans into them and put a poncho on top and she'd be OMG SO FASHION.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha she looks like the Australian guy with the enormously oversized boot in that Simpsons episode.

no one has brought up the MUKLUK yet. Uglier than the UGG and also selling out.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

these were cool LAST year. They are decidedly not cool this year. Apparently. The same thing happened last year where no-one could find them before Christmas. Similarly, ponchos, yes, last year, impossible to find, went to great lengths to get one; this year, wife will not be caught dead in it.

That said, if it is for a mother in law who lives in the midwest, it doesn't matter if it is cool or not. Actually it is probably best that it is not even remotely sexy.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

ome kind of knee high boot that is similar, a brand called EMU

"Emu boots: they wrap around you, a wishypoo!"

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i didn't see any huge ugly boots in that site's catalog.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Get her something American instead, like Frye boots:

Adam, Uggs are the most hideous and vile creation to ever adorn the hooves of the masses. However, if you really must buy a pair, you can find them here or here.

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 03:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Uggs are the joke we pulled on the world, kind of like chopsticks.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Just buy the $20 knock-offs at Target.
