Does anyone here like spam? I mean the FOOD, not email. I was introduced to it in Hawaii. It wasn't so bad on a ball of rice. Then I read what it is and pondered having my stomach pumped. Just kidding, it's uh... tasty.

Spice Ham Your Life aka New Answers

helen fordsdale, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What is it, then?

Maria, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's spam, is what it is. Parts is parts. *resists urge to sing That Song*

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Austin has a festival every year called Spamarama. I believe cook- offs and sports events, both involving the product in question, are held.

Samantha, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maria, all I know is: spiced ham. Processed meat, no? I don't want to know more. ;-) Or to quote dictionary
Spam (spm) A trademark used for a canned meat product consisting primarily of chopped pork pressed into a loaf.

helen fordsdale, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

= ears lips and arseholes num num

mark s, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

or, alternately, potted meat for the upwardly mobile.

jess, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Spam bears!

Hoooooooooo yeah!

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pete eats little else. Bizarrely, Helen, we have discussed Spam already

Nick, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

spam surely no worse for includingodd bits of animal than other tasty 'meat' products, e.g. SOSSAGES

michael, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

At school the caterers were obviously of the opinion that the fat content of Spam wasn't sufficiently high on its own. Therefore they offered us Spam fritters, i.e. Spam dipped in batter & deep fried. If you pressed them just a little thick brown grease spread slowly over your plate.

Still ate 'em, mind.

David, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Remember Big Boy Barry and Lesley? Lesley formed a group of nerdlingers called S.P.A.M.

David, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

never tried it. I might be able to buy some though, worth it?

Menelaus Darcy, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Spam Spam Spam, lovely SPAAAAAAAAAM!

sorry Icould resist.

Spam is GRATE, its near heaven friend with egg,, just beware it no good in curry and no where near the gloriousness of Corned Beef.+

Mr Noodles, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

sorry Icould resist.

If you *could* resist, then... ;-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Spam is Satan.

rainy, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I just remembered! I have a tin of spam in the kitchen cupboard that I haven't eaten yet! I have to know what it's like!

DG, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nick is incorrect when he says I hardly eat anything else. But I do eat it, and I do like it. Num num. As a child I was quite into cooking but my mother would never trust me with proper meat as it was both too expensive and possibly dangerous because when I started it wasn't cooked. Therefore I became the master of such culinary delights as Spam Chow Mein, Spam Curry - and (my high point) Spam Laska.

Buy a tin now and it will probably have instructions for the Spamburger.

I can't believe I was away when the other Spam thread came up. And whither the derivation of unwanted e-mail as Spam?

Pete, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

DG verdict: Spam is quite nice, actually. Especially with a bit of mayonaise.

DG, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Huzzah! Me and DG agree on something. (Try it with chemical weapon X - Salad Cream).

Pete, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Off I go to get the salad cream...

DG, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aww, poo! No salad cream. And just what is that jelly?

DG, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

it's what keeps a pig's wickle brane comfy and cushioned inside its skull

mark s, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The jelly is pure solidified flavour. Num Num.

Pete, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

MMMMMM Spam! I was forcibly restrained from buying Spam on two occasions, both in Tesco and The Shop At Luffbra Jcn but tonight I'm going to buy some NUM. How was it served on a ball of rice Helen? Like sushi? That's WACK gorrr but sounding NUM.

Sarah, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mmmm spam sushi. Tonight I shall make up some lovely sushi rice, pick up some wasabi and maybe go to Loon Fung and pick up some nice fish! And try to poison myself by making real raw fish sushi? You loon (hur). But I could certainly pick up some seaweed sheets anyway... hrrm! Who am I kidding I will just eat spam and rice and what else do I have, oh yes, alphabits, hash browns and ice cream! And I wonder why my complexion has broken out in BUBONIC PLAGUE.

Sarah, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hmm...perhaps I ate too much spam and mayonnaise...I feel a bit ill now.

DG, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I love that it's an 'exclusive'

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 6 June 2024 22:29 (two years ago)

my old WWII vet uncle's awesome quote: "If it wasn't for Spam, we'd all be eating sauerkraut with chopsticks right now"

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 6 June 2024 22:36 (two years ago)

Turkey Spam is low key not that bad for you. Less salt than low sodium Spam and only 480 calories for the whole tin, less than half of regular Spam. I use it exclusively now for musubis etc.

octobeard, Thursday, 6 June 2024 22:38 (two years ago)

one year passes...

has anyone ever had a Steakum? Do they still exist, and if so, what the hell is it?

Not something my family would have ever purchased, but I think a neighbor kid regularly had them in the fridge

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 25 November 2025 01:29 (six months ago)

oh hell yeah. they taste like fatty beef, since that's basically what they are.

feed me with your chips (zchyrs), Tuesday, 25 November 2025 02:41 (six months ago)

not something I have eaten since maybe 2005 though

feed me with your chips (zchyrs), Tuesday, 25 November 2025 02:42 (six months ago)

My feelings on spam have changed so much since I learned of the wonders they achieve with it in Asia.

a ZX spectrum is haunting Europe (Daniel_Rf), Tuesday, 25 November 2025 10:36 (six months ago)

I used to eat Steakum for a few years growing up, probably ages 12-14. It may have been something my mom bought that I could use to make for myself when I was old enough to cobble together a sandwich or whatever but not really old enough to cook. I recall they came frozen in a block between sheets of wax paper that you would pry off and either fry in a pan or heat in a microwave. I have no recollection of the flavor but I can't imagine they had much.
