Orgone Energy Accumulators and Mind Machines

On amazon, I found that "mad scientist" had a list of book recommendations for me. On his list were several books about Wilhelm Reich, discoverer of "orgone energy" (one of which shows how to create cheap orgone energy accumulators), Paramagnetic Healing, and How To Create Your Own Mind Machines, which claimed to be purely scientific, rather than hocus pocus. Reading the reviews was an odd experience to hear people explaining away machines that seem to prove telekenesis by aura magnetism, rather than telekenesis, as if this is a much more believable thing.

So, I was wondering, where do you keep your orgone accumulator when you're not using it? Are mind machines fun at parties?

Mr. Fortean Times?

I was always lead to believe than telekenesis could be possible, as we only use a tiny percentage of our brains. The message title sounds like a Man or Astro-man? song title.

I shall have to read up about this. But, I shall remain sceptical.

Man or Astroman? I think Hawkwind, too.

(I'm gonna record a song called Orgone Energy Accumulators...it would fit a theremin, which I'm gonna get now I have a job)

FT recently had a little piece on the "only use [x] per cent of our brains" thing: it said it was hooey. Hawkwind had a song called "Orgone Accumulator", didn't they?

I am sick to death of hearing about Oregon Energy!

Obviously, you've never been to Portland. It's real and you can feel it! Peace punks = hippies, so you're right about that.

Nude Spock, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Which Portland?

Mr Noodles, Tuesday, 27 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Portland, Oregon.

I knew an Orthodox Reichian who had been in an orgone accumulator and said he definitely felt something or other. (It was a long time ago. I don't remembmer in detail.) I don't know if he was already a committed Reichian before he tried it out or not. R.A. Wilson claims that his sinus problems were cured by an orgone shooter. I wish the FDA would make it easier to get hold of one, since I doubt it would do any harm, and I will try almost anything for my sinuses.

But this isn't the thread I was looking for.

Rockist_Scientist (rockist_scientist), Thursday, 4 November 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I made a Dream Machine once (using directions from TOPY USA) but it didn't do anything for me.

Rockist_Scientist (rockist_scientist), Thursday, 4 November 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

It looked pretty cool, but after a while it just got in the way.

Rockist_Scientist (rockist_scientist), Thursday, 4 November 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Rockist, did you make it out of a record player? And was it a worthless piece of shit? There's some guy selling those for like $500 a piece in California because he is tenuously linked to that whole 60's scene or something and because one of his is being exhibited somewhere. If he's using record players, that's a bloody ripoff.

WILHELM REICH IN THE HIZZY!

Why didn't anyone believe in him?

(Hint, it's probably the hair)

I made it with an old turn-table, yes. It was kind of worthless, but I didn't pay a whole lot to begin with. They just provided instructions and a template. I wish I'd taken a few photographs of it though.

Rockist_Scientist (rockist_scientist), Thursday, 4 November 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you mean to tell me it was not all it was cracked out to be? This is startling and somewhat upsetting news. It seems that as far as these cosmic slop salesmen go, nothing is true and everything is permitted.

I never got a theremin!!!

What happened to my youthful ambition?

x-posts

I've gotten a stronger "flicker" effect by closing my eyes while I walking next to certain walls that have regularly spaced openings.

I actually think a lot of his writing is incredible, The Mass Psychology Of Fascism in particular.
