Um - odd compare and contrast about two deeply mediocre films, but I guess I'll go for Happy, Texas for at trying Jeremy Northam out as a latter day Cary Grant. It may not work, but it was something which needed to be done.

The scene where the brothers 'fight' in the kitchen in 'Gummo' rang excruciatingly true. 90% of small town people were like that.

I love Gummo. Last time I saw it was with the sound down as a backdrop to a Will Oldham theme night at Monkey Chews: it was ideal and nearly as good with no noise.

Will Oldham = mates w/Harmony Korine (who sings back vocs on BPB's new alb.) WO also appears in Korine's 'Julien Donkeyboy' flick. Similar aesthetic (serious-not serious)?

I love it when they make the Burt Reynold's poster talk in Gummo. That part really reminded me of my childhood.
