Overboard - Over-rated?

On the Three Kings thread I suggested that Flirting With Disaster was the best screwball comedy of the nineties. Of course it is a genre rarely attempted anymore.

However the best screwball comedy of the eighties is undoubtedly Overboard. Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, some truly revolting kids and a "Wonders Of The World" mini-golf course. A fantastic movie - no?

Haven't seen Overboard, so can't comment. However, best 80s screwball = Something Wild (Demme, 1986) surely? Or is Yuppie Nightmate comedy a sub-genre of its own?

I think Yuppie nightmare is a genre all of its own. The screwball comedy can deal with dark themes (a la His Girl Friday & capital punishment) but not dark in itself which i think Something Wild certainly is.

After Hours vs. Into the Night vs. Fatal Attraction = FITE.
