Sing A Song To You

In the dreams/Smiths thread, Kate and Nick both talk about how they'd love to find someone to sing "Reel Around The Fountain" to and being the hard-hearted cynical wretches we are the rest of us said they were weirdos. What songs are you seeking someone to sing to?

Tom, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

And of course why does that make you some kind of FREAK?

Tom, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

David i have held hands and sang When When Boy Walks Down the Street but he refuses to croon blue river.

anthony, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'With a Song in my Heart' (Rodgers & Hart), as performed by Ella Fitzgerald.

Edna Welthorpe, Mrs, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wish Alex T would sing Perfect Gentlemang to me. No, really, I do. Really. (Have I mentioned my pore head)?

Sarah, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Can I just restate that I don't think I dont literally want to sing Reel Around The Fountain to anyone. It's a courtly love fantasy thing.

I'd much rather sing something like Aretha Franklin's 'That's All I Want From You'. A certain ball fancier here read the lyrics of Dog on Wheels to someone over the phone in tears.

Nick, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Isaac Hayes' "Our Day Will Come". I do have somebody to sing it to but if I started we'd nervously laugh (like..oh man... it must be irony) and neither of us would really know how sincere I was being.

rener, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yesterday Sarah and i serenaded each other, as well as the whole of Soho, with our unique redition of "Sweet Child Of Mine". thanks for reminding me about that RickyT. where's the godsdamn neurofen?

katie, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(Oohhhhhhh where does it gooooowwwwwwwwwwwooohwwoooaaah)?

GROO. I supped some Nurofen this morning too. Your version of Take Me Home inna Cartman stylee also should not be forgotten snerk.

Sarah, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

nurofen is for lamers: CUPROFEN™ is where it's at kids

mark s, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like Beechams as a hangover cure. I think I have unnatural dependencies on it. It is nice though and it burns your throat when you drink.

Ronan, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Want some!!! Is it over the counter or prescription?

Sarah, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mark, you are a sick genius. I still think my favorite ever Carcass line is "Life is hard as a mortuary technician."

Uh...if I had Bowie's voice (or Nina Simone's), I wouldn't mind singing "Wild is the Wind" for someone. But I don't.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

WHy isn't paracetamol enough? Also is nurofen in that horrible dissolve form. It tastes like shit no? Or maybe I'm confused and nurofen is just a tablet too. I think it must be agreed that those dissolving tablets are disgusting and must be avoided at all costs.

Ronan, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

>>> 'With a Song in my Heart' (Rodgers & Hart), as performed by Ella Fitzgerald.

Why, you can sing that to me any time.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

tip toe through the tulips by tiny tim, and wuthering heights by kate bush

Menelaus Darcy, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Paracetamol is not as effective as Nurofen for most of my aches and pains and it's quite easy to take a liver damaging amount.

RickyT, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's all about the codeine, people. Gawd bless our Canadian cousins for offering this stuff over the counter.

Nicole, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

How much is liver damaging? If you know.

Ronan, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ooh yes - we get codeine OTC too. Is it dangerous to cover all bases by having aspirin + paracetemol + ibuprofen + codeine? Some of the 'plus' brands seem to combine two but never more. Is there a good safety reason for this?

Note to anyone buying Nurofen: The patent elapsed some time ago and you're mad if you still buy the trade name. Get own brand ibuprofen - it's a lot cheaper.

Nick, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ronan - it all depends on the person. Some can be affected by even, say 6 tablets, whereas others can try to kill themselves by swallowing 30 and still survive. But the key point is, unless you're trying to commit suicide, there is NO POINT having more than the recommended dose of two because paracetemol's painkilling effects aren't increased over that level.

Nick, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't think I had more than 2 ever anyway. I always think it makes me sweat alot? Isn't that a side effect of paracetamol? Maybe I just think I read it somewhere or maybe I just sweat alot.

Ronan, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

And really, taking an overdose of paracetamol/tylenol is more likely to just blow away your liver than to kill you so it's a crap way to commit suicide. Of course this would eventually kill you but it's a convoluted way to go about it.

Nicole, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

IIRC Paracetamol starts getting really bad at only 6 or 7 times the stated single dose. Aspirin/ibuprofen is an order of magnitude safer.

Mixing drugs: paracetamol/codeine/aspirin should be OK as they all work in different ways. Ibuprofen is like apsirin++, so taking it with aspirin is pointless. Codeine is combined with paracetamol in all over the counter forms and in most prescription forms to stop people using it recreationally. Which is a damn shame, as the few times I've had the pure stuff I found it to be extraodinarily good at stopping pain and a rather pleasant experience to boot.

RickyT, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Why does Nasdoor Orr refer to Ibuprofen as "his own" brand?

mark s, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

order of magnitude = aspirin unsafe only if take 60 or 70 times? (or 36 or 49 times?)

i took twice the rec dosage of cuprofen on monday: i felt perfectly normal but i WAS tripping

mark s, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh thank you so much Mark! It really makes my day to read about a "liquidized oesophagus."

Can you actually recall how Laura DIED, you fuckwit?

I thought you were better than this.

No, fuck you. Fuck the lot of you. I don't need this and I don't need any of you. Just fuck off and die.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry Marcello, that was stupid and thoughtless of me.

mark s, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

just once, i would like someone to sing to me, "and I need you more than want you." and mean it

geoff, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I agree geoff, that that is an attractive idea. Although I have a feeling that in reality, the kind of person who'd say that would be a complete mentalist and cause untold grief.

Nick, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

geoff you are getting introduced to my friend Che should you ever come to noo yourk. but you should not get surprised when she starts singing it to everyone else directly after...

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I sing things at people constantly so I don't really have any such wishes. The only love song I can really stand is "You Made Me Forget My Dreams" by B&S which is eh as it's all sappy and such and the only people I can think of singing such songs to would fall out of their chairs LAUGHING.

Maria, Wednesday, 28 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Your Charms" by Cinerama, most certainly. That does not make a freak out of me. I'm just in love all the time.

Simon, Thursday, 29 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Anyone I sang to would run away with their hands over their ears yelling 'stop it you torturing bitch' so I think I would like to sing any song to a mugger / rapist.

Emma, Thursday, 29 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one year passes...
"all I wanna do is make love to you" by Heart, but I couldn't sing it without laughing.
