The most pointless feature ever

You know in NME, that thing where they ask people what ringtone they have on their phone? It's all a SHAM. They asked me last night (outside the Astoria after seeing doubleplus good Human League gig) and when I told them I didn't have my phone with me, the guy gave me his phone and told me to make up the answers (my made up answers were: ringtone=Don't Stop Movin', last text message="It's not Ladytron - so take your time")

Actually, the text message was true but the other bit wasn't.

Anyway, point is, I always thought it was a really pointless feature anyway so now I know that people just make it up it seems even more pointless.

So - what's the most pointless feature in a magazine you can think of

(additional question: what ringtone DO you have?)

(additional question: what ringtone DO you have?)

I appreciate James's sense of irony, but please don't answer this.

"Reel Around The Fountain"

My most despised NME feautre was when they would take a very minor indie band go-karting/clay pigeon shooting/ballooning in one instance. Birdland and the Neds seemed to be involved quite often.

Do you have to remind me, Tom? Argh. Those were pretty appalling. I think the Wonder Stuff featured into a couple of them as well. Shitehawks...

"I don't think you were at the same gig as I was! Carter USM were brilliant, you're just jealous you talentless hack!"

Oh dear god, the memories. The horror, the horror!

Problem is that I can't have a *special* ringtone. If I would, I'd probably pick sugar sugar by the archies or something by the gang of four. Now I keep my mobile on vibrate. I hate it when it goes off when you are at a gig or class or sth. Hold on, I'd pick something by Replacements. Despite you guys putting'em down ages ago, I still LOVE them.

I flipped through some NMEs at the time. I stuck to MM for a reason. ;-)
