Michel Thomas RIP

My Mum just emailed me to say that Michel Thomas has died, aged 90. I had only discovered how great he is a couple of months ago. I borrowed his Spanish introductory course from the library and thought it was wonderful. I got the 8-hour course for Christmas, and I've been listening to it while walking and tidying and sometimes sleeping (just to see if it would seep in, somehow). The courses focus on his personality and voice a lot, so I've grown quite an attachment to him. He seemed so sort of avuncular and charming. I was awed by his confidence in his own method, and the amazing stories about his life in the inlay booklet...I was going to start a thread about him on ILE a few weeks ago, and then the server was down and I forgot about it. I am saddened to hear he has died.

This guy's work was amazing. Philology has lost a great man. He was obviously tough as old boots as well if his obituary is anything to go by.
