Have you got all your provisions?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 22 January 2005 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

gonna trek out to the market right now and score a big piece of pork for tonight's dinner. got a DVD for later on and leftover booze galore from new years eve: so BRING IT ON...

actually I hate how the weather reports hype this shit. Yesterday's predictions ranged from 1-3 inches to 17! Whatever.

lovebug starski (lovebug starski), Saturday, 22 January 2005 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

can't wait!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Saturday, 22 January 2005 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a little jealous, we get fuck all snow in the UK. I was in NYC, just before new years eve 2000, wow that was a real snowstorm.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Saturday, 22 January 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, what's with the TV stations in Boston running "BLIZZARD OF 2005" graphics everywhere?

Daniel Cohen (dayan), Saturday, 22 January 2005 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

(Since as of 12:30 PM, it's still kind of sunny out.)

Daniel Cohen (dayan), Saturday, 22 January 2005 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Stephen X (Stephen X), Saturday, 22 January 2005 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

There's already been a foot of snow this morning already!

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Saturday, 22 January 2005 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i made it to the grocery right as it started. I was outta food from being gone, not really worried about getting stuck in. But hey, it's college basketball day, so that's cool.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 22 January 2005 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Enjoy your blizzard.

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Saturday, 22 January 2005 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It hasn't started here yet. The calm before.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 22 January 2005 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm about to get on the G train to Queens. Will I ever make it back?? I just realized all those times I thought about getting my shoes resoled, I should have done it.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 22 January 2005 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

my taun-taun froze up before I reached the first marker :(

mookieproof (mookieproof), Saturday, 22 January 2005 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

that's a question you have to ask about the G train even when there's not a blizzard.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm heading out right now to stock up.
I'll need:

a team of oxen
extra yolks
wagon axles
wagon wheels
100 lbs of food
blankets
20 boxes of ammunition
ten sets of clothes for each party member
a map

Right, that should do it!

As long as there are people posing for snapshots in Times Square (there are, as of 15 mins. ago), I refuse to consider this a weather emergency.

enjoy! our ice storm in portland was a week ago, and will most likely indirectly lead to my roommate having to close his shop, since the trade show that he expected to make major dollaz at was cancelled on that day.

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry to hear that kingfish. i heard about the big ice storm out there.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I was in Portland for the ice storm, and now am in DC for the inaug and the blizzard. Next, I travel to ancient Egypt in time for the plague of frogs.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

rad! my mom was in pdx for the ice skating thingy. so goofy.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Goofy indeed; friend of mine went to that thing, and walked three miles over the ice to get there. That's a lot of effort for some spangly tutu action. What is this--Canada?

Stephen X (Stephen X), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

If "BEWARE THE TSNOWNAMI!" had been said during the week, there would've been 100 requests for this thread to be deleted.

"My Dad died during a TSNOWNAMI!"

joe suzuki-san (deangulberry), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

well, truth be told, the shop wasn't necessarily in the best of straits beforehand, and things might not be so dire. we'll see.

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

what kinda shop is it? if it has yuppie stuff i can tell my brother to shop there.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a good thing I finally broke down and bought a space heater a couple nights ago, because it looks like I'm going to be spending the day in my under-heated apartment watching the snow accumulate outside. I was supposed to drive out to visit family tonight, but I'm not sure it's going to happen now.

o. nate (onate), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

be careful with your space heaters, people. not a good idea.

the tourists were out early this morning to take pictures of the WTC site before the snow started falling. that probably happens every weekend though.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

try every day.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Ugh, I just got back from driving in the city, because I had to get some lights and shit. Everything us closing early. Except of course, for the outdoor fruit/fish stands in Chinatown. Plus I scored 100 veggie dumplings.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Saturday, 22 January 2005 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I scored 100 klonopins!

MY FAVOURITE LIGHTER IS CHEESEBURGER (trigonalmayhem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

there's a tiswas reunion party tonite. and legowelt at the delancey. i wonder if anyones going to go

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 22 January 2005 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

be careful with your space heaters, people

Well, unfortunately the central heating unit in my apartment (it's some dinky little thing in the closet) can only raise the temperature to about 70, so if I want anything warmer than that, a space heater is really the only way to go. I know they can be dangerous if left unattended, but I only use it basically if I'm sitting right in front of it. I really miss the old first-floor apartment I use to have in the East Village with good old steam heat. That place was usually like 80 degrees all winter long - except when they ran out of heating oil, then it would freeze for a couple of days.

o. nate (onate), Saturday, 22 January 2005 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

From KYW.COM:

Although the snow will likely move out of the Philadelphia area before the game, give yourself extra time to get to Lincoln Financial Field as conditions will be less than desirable. It is suggested that anyone headed to the game take public transportation or carpool. Gates opened atl 8 a.m. but remember since the lots require plowing, fewer spaces will be available. . . .

Stadium officials have also issued a warning - anyone who throws a snowball will be ejected from the game. In addition whoever owns the seat that person was sitting in will lose their season ticket privileges regarless of whether or not they were at the game. The culprit could also be arrested. (My emphasis, obv.)

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Sunday, 23 January 2005 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a disappointing blizzard. I don't even think it's bad enough out there to use as an excuse not to go to the gym.

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Sunday, 23 January 2005 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Glad to hear all are well. Um, we've got a bit of fog out here. XTREME, DUDEZ!

i'm actually a downhill man, never have gone cross-country skiing. Would love to try it though it looks hard. Supposed to be one of the absolute best ways to exercise.

Yup, I loved cross-country skiing when I lived in upstate NY. Must get around to doing again sometime.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 23 January 2005 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

It's still snowing and blowing. I think we're at 2 and half feet by now.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Sunday, 23 January 2005 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Rufus could play in the snow but he might disappear in it and become a snow baby.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 23 January 2005 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Two and a half feet or so on the ground here; supposedly it's the biggest single blizzard in Boston history. I am quite thankful that my cable and Internet never once went down, despite the high winds.

All the schools in town have closed for the next two days. Total classic.

Daniel Cohen (dayan), Sunday, 23 January 2005 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

the cape and the islands are getting it the worst now. 70 mile an hour winds in nantucket. and pretty hairy here too. should get 3 feet or more before it ends. all cars banned from the road here on martha's vineyard. lobster tails and gin & tonics are being rationed out at the high school for distribution by the red cross.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 23 January 2005 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently, the island of nantucket has no power. hope we aren't next. if i miss my eagles today there will be hell to pay when i get ahold of God.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 23 January 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope the sequel to Katamari Damacy has a snow level!

TOMBOT, Sunday, 23 January 2005 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

It's snowing sideways and sticking to the windows, which makes it hard to see out.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Sunday, 23 January 2005 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

there is snow piled up past the bottom of our windows
which makes it hard to get out (the door)

MY FAVOURITE LIGHTER IS CHEESEBURGER (trigonalmayhem), Sunday, 23 January 2005 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I have five pounds of day-old chili, a huge handle of Blanchard's-brand vodka, and seven hours of football to watch. It is absolutely pounding outside right now; I really wish the Pats game was being played at the Razor. I can't imagine shoveling the car out tomorrow morning.

Daniel Cohen (dayan), Sunday, 23 January 2005 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man
blanchard's brand vodka

gag gag gag

MY FAVOURITE LIGHTER IS CHEESEBURGER (trigonalmayhem), Sunday, 23 January 2005 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

also I just saw some retard going to do his laundry in this?????
I don't even know how he got out of his apartment, let alone into the laundry room which I'm sure the door to was almost covered with snow (it's below ground level with some steps down)

I am flabbergasted.

MY FAVOURITE LIGHTER IS CHEESEBURGER (trigonalmayhem), Sunday, 23 January 2005 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

today is a beautiful day.

somebody should let scott know that the eagles are kicking ass.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 23 January 2005 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm watching! I'm scared though. Eagles fans live in fear. With good reason.

Um, it's still snowing here. A lot.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 23 January 2005 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Being that this is Gator Magoon's first big snowstorm since leaving SoCal (or ever?), I'll ask him to check in and let us know he's OK.

I don't understand what the big deal is. So it snowed, so what? I dressed properly, realized that wherever it was I was planning on going was going to take at least twice as long, and planned accordingly. I was still able to take a bus, ride the 6 train, etc. etc.

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 23 January 2005 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Bottom line: I'm think that all the "BLIZZARD 2005" paranoia out here is no different from the "STORMWATCH!" paranoia in SoCal whenever a drop of rain falls

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 23 January 2005 21:52 (twenty-one years ago)

You can't say that, post-12/26.

joe suzuki-san (deangulberry), Sunday, 23 January 2005 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

gator-its just the shoveling that can suck. and yeah people suck and wont shut up about it. but some of the hype is the fun of being somewhat stranded inside !

come on sock it to me (kephm), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

if you're a hermit it's no big deal!

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Pussies all of you

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

-its just the shoveling that can suck.

What's to shovel? I live in an apartment buiilding

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

You can't say that, post-12/26

Bah! I earned my flood stripes in the Great Downpour of 1983.

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Weather smugness is DEAD.

joe suzuki-san (deangulberry), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

if you're a hermit it's no big deal!

Even if you aren't a hermit. I was still easily able to hop a bus, ride the subway, walk about, etc. Like I said, if you're dressed for it you're fine.

On the other hand, if you were one of those clods that were trying to drive on the Bruckner last night - well, you deserve everything you got.

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I can see Lake Michigan from my apartment, and it looks really cool. It is covered with ice & there is a layer of snow on top of that. It's very nordic-looking. Too bad I don't have a digital camera.

K3rry, Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, it is alot of snow. But I don't consider this SNOW. It's light, fluffy, drifty stuff that happened to accumulate in alarming degrees. You can't make a snowball, build a snow fort, or even shovel the damn stuff!
It's like the prettiest-girl-from-high-school-snow. Very very pretty. Alas, no form for the content.
Also, this snow is blowing everywhere.

aimurchie, Sunday, 23 January 2005 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The 'north-west' in the title could be 'north-west' anything really. I might drive out to Warrandyte and attempt to build a snowman. Out of old people.

OH MY GOD

my bedroom overlooks a police parking lot, and one of the dude's cars is totally snowed in...so instead of like really digging his way out he's trying to just drive his way through to get out of his parking space (nb. he is not in an suv b ut appears to be in a ford taurus!!!), with his friend shoving the front of his car to help him back out...so somehow, while still IN the parking space (because he can't get out, his wheels are spinning and going nowhere), he manages to SPIN OUT and take out the two cars parked next to him!!!

I shouldn't be laughing my ass off and staring at them doing this, right?
