My advice? Think about the amount of debt you will be in by the time you qualify as a barrister/solicitor, and then you need to factor in being paid fuck all and competing with every other would be lawyer in the country for a place on a course, not necessarily where you want/can afford to live. It's an expensive business to get into so you should be 100% sure you want to go for it.

Are you in the UK? I assume so but may be wrong.

Re the personal statement - giv evidence that you've considered other career paths, but cite relevant experience eg debates, attendance of trials/tribunals etc, legal experience of whatever type, and emphasise what about those events generated your sense of vocation. In other words, bullshit.

Good luck!

re factoring in "being paid fuck all and competing with every would be lawyer in the country for a place on a course" I meant the extreme level of competition involved in obtaining a training countract/pupiilship (in the UK anyway) and the fact that if you're lucky enough to get a place, you aren't paid very much in the first two years or so. Then you start earning megabucks, which is what it was all about in the first place.

Bullshit - the law is a Sales job.

Correct me if I'm wrong!

I'm sure being a lawyer is great, it just drove me mad as a hatter.

The words in prose ought to express the intended meaning, and no more; if they attract attention to themselves, it is, in general, a fault.

Er, no idea what it's like in the UK, but I probably spent 40+ hours working on my personal statement (wish that was an exaggeration). If you're serious, there's a ton of books available.

Well, speaking only for me, I wrote my personal statement in about 12 minutes. Law school in the US is a big time numbers game, if your GPA from undergrad and LSAT score are at a certain level I'm fairly certain you can send a macaroni art self portrait of yourself as a personal statement.

Good luck Lukey. Law school was a great experience in most ways, and unmitigated hell in others. All told I think its well worth it.

I've done a law conversion course, I just don't want to be a lawyer.
