Describe moments in your life that felt like you were in a movie

Or moments when there should have been music swelling in the background.

One of mine is sitting awake at in a seedy five bed hotel room in Amsterdam at night with the rain slashing down outside. My four mates were asleep behind me as I sucked on a cigarette at the window. For some reason I felt like a private detective, so I narrowed my eyes at the stinging fag smoke and narrated a tale in my head.

I approached the taxi rank at Hitchin station at 2:30am one night only to find all the drivers in a peaceful slumber while one of them had "Dreeeeeaaam/Dream Dream Dreeeam/Dreeeeaaam" playing loudly out the car stereo for all to hear.
It really did sum up the sleepiness of the town and could have been the perfect opener to a film.

Talking of taxis, being driven across wide squares in Moscow at 100 mph was pretty filmic. We were neither chasing nor being chased, except possibly by another cab with whom the driver was having a race. Actually, it was probbaly more like GTA or Crazy Taxi than a film.

(I wonder who owns the film rights to Grand Theft Auto?)

One springs to mind, it involved snogging, so message ends.

the one time i flew a helicopter through the dartford tunnel was pretty filmic.

I was out chopping wood, and feeling lonely, and I kinda broke into this sad song and started dancing around my axe, and then my six brothers joined in, and soon we were all singing and dancing around in the woods about how lonely we were, and right after that we decided to go back to town and kidnap a bunch of women. It was so weird.

Anytime that I'm walking down an empty hospital hallway at one in the morning or through a deserted parking deck or past an abandoned gas station and especially when I'm driving up Interstate 35 through Iowa rather late at night.

Interior: An ordinary living room in a modest but comfortable home.
ADAM lies on the sofa listening to music through headphones. The soundtrack is Last Goodbye by Jeff Buckley. Suddenly the door opens and a tall blonde female enters. It is ADAM'S wife.
WIFE: I don't want to be married any more. I no longer love you. Goodbye.
She turns on her heel and leaves immediately.
ADAM lies still, as if paralysed. He makes no movement until about 30 seonds later when a solitary tear rolls down his cheek.

But Louise Yorath never wanted to be your wife. It was in your head.

Paul Kelly (kelly), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:45 (twenty-one years ago)

it's corny, but whenever i'm in an airport or airplane on my own.

i didn't say it was a good movie, ok?

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 31 January 2005 05:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Since pretty much every possible experience has been usurped by film, I'd say you can feel that way pretty much anytime you want, and sometimes when you don't want.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 31 January 2005 05:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Ugh, I used "pretty much" twice in the same sentence. That's a habit I'd like to break.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 31 January 2005 05:38 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah while at airports. with sparks. and Sparks.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 31 January 2005 05:39 (twenty-one years ago)

does everybody feel like they're in a movie when they're in an airport, or is it just me and Ken C? People seem to kind of act like they're in a movie in airports. It's weird that something so dull feels movieish.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 31 January 2005 06:00 (twenty-one years ago)

and soundtracky music sounds great in airports too. fuck, i could probably listen to david holmes or the dead man soundtrack in an airport and actually enjoy it.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 31 January 2005 06:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't stop looking at escalators, ticket-counters, and fountains as neat possible places to grind. That's more of a Tony Hawk thing than a movie thing, I guess.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 31 January 2005 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Junior high (9th grade), walking to school about a week before the end of school, seeing a big crowd in front of the school, news vans, walking up to my friends and finding out that a boy and girl I vaguely knew had killed themselves the day before. (or they were found together with the gun, no one knows if she killed herself or if he pulled the trigger) I just remember that Q102 was playing the Verve Pipe's "Freshmen" right as I walked up and saw everything.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 31 January 2005 07:27 (twenty-one years ago)

dog latin's taxi tale has really stuck in my mind this morning, I may steal this idea!

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 31 January 2005 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I totally feel like I'm in a movie whenever I'm in an airport. That's one of the reasons I like them so much.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 31 January 2005 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

thirteen years pass...

whenever i accidentally leave something behind -- my wallet, medicine, suit pants i thought were hanging inside the suit jacket -- there is definitely a movie shot of me (maybe just my legs + whatever i'm carrying) walking out the door followed by a closeup of the item i forgot
