Would anybody really be upset if Cheney resigned?

He embarrasses me. As an American, I apologize to the world. An awful lot of us didn't vote for these yokels. An awful lot of us cringe every time we see them venture outside their little cowboy playground.

I'm sorry.

Re: The Dick "Oh, let's wear a ski parka with my name on it and a knit cap with "Staff 2001" on it and hiking boots to the official ceremony at Auschwitz" Cheney

You should have seen what Kwasniewski wore:

That's what he wears duck in Wyoming. Ain't it good enough for the Poles?

secret service to thread

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 28 January 2005 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I've asked to have this thread removed. As Edward R. Murrow said to his staff while they were working on a report about Joe McCarthy, The fear is with us, in this room. I paraphrase, of course. Murrow went ahead with the report and helped bring an end to the travesty of the McCarthy Era. I ask for the thread to be pulled.

There's no pride here.

"They think I dressed inappropriately? WELL I DON'T GIVE A FUCK. I'm Dick Cheney, damnit, and Dick Cheney does whatever the hell he wants. Those fuckers at Auschwitz were dead anyway."

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 29 January 2005 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently the knit cap even had an URL brightly stitched into it, for extra classy solemness

i like what Wonkette wrote:

We don't know why everyone is making such a big deal about Cheney's attire at the holocaust memorial. He is an old man with a bad heart. Wearing whatever's comfortable is one of the benefits of still being alive. There are many: early bird buffets, discount theater tickets, and, of course, invading the country of your choice, as long you show your AARP card.

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 29 January 2005 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no clue what the thread name change/pulling thing was about.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 29 January 2005 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

heh. i just looked more closer at the facial expressions of the guy behind him and our VP. Ol' Dick has the look of "What?! What the fuck do you want--I'm cold. Fuck you, then."

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/holocaust_cheney_dress_dc

"The vice president, however, was dressed in the kind of attire one typically wears to operate a snow blower," Robin Givhan, The Washington Post's fashion writer, wrote in the newspaper's Friday editions.

[...]

"The vice president might have been warm in his parka, ski cap and hiking boots," Givhan said. "But they had the unfortunate effect of suggesting he was more concerned with his own comfort than the reason for braving the cold at all."

Cheney's staff had no comment on the story.

kingfish muffminer 2049er (Kingfish), Saturday, 29 January 2005 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Not to defend the Dick, but what about the appropriateness of The Washington Post having its fashion writer analyze the Auschwitz ceremony?

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Saturday, 29 January 2005 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not analyzing the ceremony so much as commenting on what he wore and how it compares to what other dignitaries wore. Seems reasonable for a fashion writer to do that.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 29 January 2005 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The fashion writer is well known for cattiness. She harshed on Elizabeth Edwards last year, among many others.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Saturday, 29 January 2005 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i think it was more that they realized the hoopla over what he wore(what the article is about) and handed it over to the fashion writer for comments

kingfish muffminer 2049er (Kingfish), Saturday, 29 January 2005 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The whole episode is just weird. I can't decide if I even have an opinion about it. And since I'm not hurting for reasons to dislike Cheney, I think I can let this one go.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Saturday, 29 January 2005 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...
He turn 66 tomorrow! Happy birthday, Dick!

I hope they let you finish your cake before they drag you off to give testimony, ya bastid!
