Jean-Claude Van Damme as ultra-American Guile! Kylie Minogue as Cammy! Raul Julia as M. Bison in his final film role before dying!

Lingbertt, Saturday, 29 January 2005 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Van Damme's attempt at an American accent was exquisite. It was a cross between his usual Van Damme english and Bill Pullman's President Of The USA in ID4 accent. It seemed like he slowly just gave up even attempting to try for an American accent and just reverted to his usual Van Damme-ish. Though he tried to maintain his American-ness by acting brash and cocky and irreverent because that's how Yanks act.

Lingbertt, Saturday, 29 January 2005 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Raul Julia just didn't make a good M. Bison. If only he could have stayed Gomez Addams forever.

Lingbertt, Saturday, 29 January 2005 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked the way they tried to shoehorn at least one move from the video game from each of the characters into the movie. It was always such a shoddy representation, but it guaranteed a laugh each time. The most extraneous would probably be when Kylie Minogue shouted out "thrust kick!" and then simply kicked the guy. No jump and spin or anything. Kylie does look good in pigtails though.

Lingbertt, Saturday, 29 January 2005 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

At one point, M. Bison was launching bombs at Guile via video screen, and the control panel he was using was actually a Street Fighter arcade control panel (i.e. two joysticks and two sets of 6 buttons. It even had the map of the world as the background)!

It was great seeing Raul Julia repeatedly fly across the room on strings as he did his psycho crusher move. Guile just couldn't seem to dodge it! but then he suddenly realized after about the 4th or 5th flyby that he had legs and he could kick with them.

And I regret having to report that Van Damme NEVER ONCE DID THE SPLITS!

Lingbertt, Saturday, 29 January 2005 11:08 (twenty-one years ago)

and so many Van Damme one-liners! "Bison, your ass is six months late! And NOW IT'S MINE!!" What does that mean?!

Anyone else seen this?

Lingbertt, Saturday, 29 January 2005 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah. I heard it sucked.

marmot wolof (marmotwolof), Saturday, 29 January 2005 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

There was very little street fighting in this movie.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 29 January 2005 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Plus they made Blanka into a soldier transformed by evil experiments, instead a green-skinned wild man from the jungles of Brazil like he is in the game. Such a travesty!

And Dhalsim, instead of being a badass yoga master who breathes fire was made into a measly scientidt in a labcoat!

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 29 January 2005 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah Dhalsim was a big letdown

lemin (lemin), Saturday, 29 January 2005 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

_City Hunter_ had a better SF2 adaption

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 29 January 2005 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh Christ. City Hunter: Jackie Chan as Chun Li. Seriously one of the weirdest things I have ever seen in a movie.

Dude playing Ken looks like Dave Mustaine.

Ian John50n (orion), Saturday, 29 January 2005 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

the soundtrack had a illmatic-era nas cut, "one on one" - "i brawl with blanka / caught bison in the thinker"

m. (mitchlnw), Saturday, 29 January 2005 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

omg I never knew about City Hunter!

Nah. I heard it sucked
haha of course it did. it's like one of the worst movies ever!

Blanka looked sort of Incredible Hulk tv show meets 1980s Beauty And The Beast tv show. Dhalsim was a good, peaceful man with a good, peaceful heart. Maybe he couldn't breathe fire or teleport, but he knew exactly when to have a compilation of video clips of happy things like people frolicking through the grass and being beautiful.

Do you think 28 Days Later got its inspiration for the Rage virus from Blanka's transformation in this movie? Stanley Kubrick was quoted as saying that Dhalsim's Good Brainwash video "really got him thinking" and was directly responsible for A Clockwork Orange, starting with Alex's brainwash scene.

thirteen years pass...

“After 10 days in Bangkok we were six days behind schedule – it was tortuous. The producers said: ‘You’re running behind!’ So I did an old John Ford trick: I just opened the script and ripped a page out and said, there, we’re back on track.”

The rest of the actors recall a frustrating and bemusing experience. “He had the presidential suite at the hotel, with a gym put into his room,” recalls Seth. “Sometimes he wouldn’t turn up on set – the message would come through from him saying: ‘I have to pump up my muscles!’ and that was that.”

its the Longmont joke come to life!

Enjoy some character posters. Including David Dastmalchian, to give the full name nobody's been saying today here.

The director is the main director of the Eric Andre show. If this achieves the same level of cheese as the 1994 movie, it will be a success in my book.

adam t (dat), Saturday, 13 December 2025 16:30 (six months ago)

"The director is the main director of the Eric Andre show"

I sincerely hope it has (a) "Hard in the Paint" on the soundtrack (b) Denis Rodman has a cameo where he kisses a corpse. Only a few people in the audience will get those references but they'll go to see the film hundreds of times.

Excited for all the tweenage kids who have birthdays around the time this comes out, and can bring all their buds to this for a party outing, hepped up on goofballs unrefined sugar products.
