So...next Sunday 6th of Feb is my birthday, and by way of marking the occasion I am inclined to have Thai food at the King's Arms on Roupell St. SE1 sometime in the afternoon, after which I will retire to the pub portion of the building and have beer.

Is anyone up for keeping me company? Or is Sunday an awful day to have a birthday and I should just reschedule?

sgs (sgs), Sunday, 30 January 2005 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

happy!

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 30 January 2005 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks! You should stop by, RJG.

I had wanted to have a superbowl party and all--I had a fleeting vision of an evening spent eating nachos and having other people explain the rules of the game to me, but it turns out it'll be on at some stupid late time at night. Oh well.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 31 January 2005 00:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be in zurich, not london, unfortunately.

I hope it's a good one!

RJG (RJG), Monday, 31 January 2005 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh alright then :)

Although you might want to *ack* phone ahead and check that the pub is actually open on a Sunday. We had a bit of trouble with it just after Christmas.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 31 January 2005 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, I thought this Sunday thing might be a problem. I will phone ahead tomorrow.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 31 January 2005 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I might come down for this! I know I say that every time.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 31 January 2005 03:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't the superbowl at 11.30? Afterpubbage yo!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 31 January 2005 03:27 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah honestly! i just stayed up to watch WWE Royal Rumble just now and it's 4am and i have to wake up tomorrow at 6:30am oh shit i should go to bed.

hope to make it next sun! i'll be travelling down from york so won't be there til layder but will try and be there!!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 31 January 2005 03:59 (twenty-one years ago)

who won Royal Rumble? not that i know who's in it anymore - the last one i saw was the classic (but ridiculously staged) Ric Flair triumph in...'94?

mmmmm Thai food

Stevem On X (blueski), Monday, 31 January 2005 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I would be thrilled to participate in the sgs birthday shenanigins, wherever it may be, even south of the river.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 31 January 2005 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

This might be really nice to do, actually.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Monday, 31 January 2005 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

YAY to you all :)

It's still too early to phone ahead. But I will.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 31 January 2005 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh, a Sunday FAP round the corner from work. I can sleep under my desk and be dead early on Monday!

robster (robster), Monday, 31 January 2005 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

The 'dead' is there for emphasis. I'm not planning to expire under my desk on Monday morning.

robster (robster), Monday, 31 January 2005 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah C, Monday, 31 January 2005 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

B...b..but we'd miss the SUPERBOWL!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 31 January 2005 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

A-a-a-and that's the good thing! I tried to watch the Superb Owl before and even with the help of a bottle of port and some toy balloons I just couldn't make it. JAYSUS, the Superbowl is really actually RUBBISH! Nindie >> Superbowl!

(Anyway doesn't the Superbowl only start when we should all be in bed anyway?)

Sarah C, Monday, 31 January 2005 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god surely the choice is not only between nindie and the superbowl!

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 31 January 2005 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Well of course we could all take up the accordion and stroll along the South Bank singing songs by Charles Trenet instead. Or just stay in the pub. I was just sayin' like :)

Sarah C, Monday, 31 January 2005 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Accordion sounds good!

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 31 January 2005 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Not just any nindie, MOMUS nindie at that.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 31 January 2005 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

They appear to have left Schnappi off the list for some reason.

Sarah C, Monday, 31 January 2005 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

This bodes well for my resolution to DANCE MORE, actually... I like the Pleasure Unit. It's very purple. Despite the man on the stairs who wasn't there.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Monday, 31 January 2005 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

As long as I can see six films beforehand I shall be there.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 31 January 2005 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be in Berlin over the weekend but back on Sunday afternoon and will join festivities.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 31 January 2005 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I'll be happy to be there.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 31 January 2005 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I might come.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 31 January 2005 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

if you're lucky

ken c (ken c), Monday, 31 January 2005 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

ken you have sullied my nice thread

sgs (sgs), Monday, 31 January 2005 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

bah ken you beat me to it...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 31 January 2005 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurrah for South London FAPz.

alix (alix), Monday, 31 January 2005 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

sounds good to me, look forward to seeing everyone there!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 31 January 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

this sounds good to me!

toby (tsg20), Monday, 31 January 2005 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I have phoned ahead! I'm told the pub has normal 11-'til-11 hours on Sunday. Restaurant's slightly different (11-3 and 6-10:30). However, I should add as disclaimer that the dude I spoke to had trouble understanding what I was asking him. Must have been my accent.

I'll be there from 6ish and Mark and I will be sitting down for dinner shortly after--if you'd like to join us for Thai food, be there then! Otherwise I will look forward to seeing you all in the subsequent beer portion of the evening.

sgs enunciates (sgs), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurrah! Well planned indeed! (See, that wasn't so hard, was it, Steering Committee?) South London FAPs are go!

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

(Psst - those big long tables are reservable)

If Pete Baran asks, you aint seen me, right? (Matt DC), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

(hey, proper steering committee never have any problems (NB this may not be entirely true), it's only when you try and decide "democratically" that you run into problems ;))

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw Matt I already phoned ahead once! :)

If a mod-person wants to add King's Arms SE1, 6 Feb pm to the thread title, that might be nice although potentially unnecessary.

I wonder if Pete's six films include the LOTR trilogy and/or Yi Yi.

sgs (sgs), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i...will probably need a drink on sunday. so i think, if its ok, i will come too

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

matt's post got me thinking about how cool it'd be to have reversible tables.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I only go watch films I have not already seen. It'll probably only be three films anyway.

Oh and I would double check what the barman said as any fule knows that Sunday opening hours are 12-10:30, and not 11-11!

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still in Ghana this weekend, sorry (back next week).

BARMS, Wednesday, 2 February 2005 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

if you end up making dinner reservations or something fancy, i'm planning on being there from 6...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm thinking I'll take my chances and whoever's there on (my) time, we'll manage. I don't think I can be bothered making reservations as that will involve trying to tally exactly how many will show up at 6 and then waiting until they all get there...instead keepin' it casual and all. I hope this lack of Hefty Organization on my part won't backfire.

any fule knows that Sunday opening hours are 12-10:30, and not 11-11

Haha Pete, yes that had occurred to me which is why I didn't think he understood what I was asking really. Maybe I'll make someone with an English voice re-phone ahead. Ah the difficulties of steering.

Barms, sorry you'll miss it.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought the pub still opens til 11. but closing time occurs at 10:30...

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

It turns out that my disclaimer above was apt. I had Mark phone ahead this morning just to make sure and it turns out that they told me wrong before, and they do not in fact serve food on Sunday evenings. THE SUCK.

So a warning to anyone planning to eat there, I'd advise a late lunch. I am annoyed but I will get over it by the time 6 pm rolls around I hope, and will be glad to see people even if I have to subsist on crisps.

sgs (sgs), Sunday, 6 February 2005 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry all: I've had a spectacularly up and down week with my depression (the last psychiatrist I saw suggested I may be bipolar, and this looks like some support for that), and I am very, very (it's tempting to type several more 'very's) down right now, and can't get near making it out. Particular apologies to Sarah: have a fantastic time!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 6 February 2005 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry you couldn't make it Martin, and I hope things are improving.

Big thanks to everyone for staying out so late on a school night. My birthday was fab!
