I am very much guilty of doing this. So, no, I think it's fine.

What about the situation when somebody doesn't have any well- formulated views on a particular subject, but decides to post a question about it just to see what everyone else thinks in an attempt to formulate an opinion based on their answers? This would necessitate staying silent on one's own thread.....at least for a while.

I've always thought that being abusive or straying off topic to be the only things on these forums that could be considered "wicked". The fact that you merely describe yourself as a scamp, DV, suggests that you don't really think that it's that wicked yourself.

Oh, but I do it all the time! It's usually not my fault, tho. I'll start a thread cause I'm very, very bored, and then someone will notice me saying online that I'm very very bored, and invite me to go out and do something, and then three days later or so, I get back on the internet and find out my thread has fizzled out without me. Poo!

GOing off topic is the raison d'etre of thes boards though. There are enough interconnected ideas to suggest that if something was worth talking about, we will stray on to it in the end from another thread - even if its official thread has been sabotaged. (Though if a thread of mine strays I try to start a new thread on the new subject to continue the discussion).

I thought it was the idea to keep as schtum as poss on your own thread(s)! I just like to hear what other people think - why ask the question if you already have an answer..?

The only rule is there are no rules. Except that one.
