Less good. The best movie ever made is 9 1/2 weeks.

Have we not done this? Love the colours, love the look. Didn't you call it an 'existential musical' last time, Anthony?

Is it REALLY REALLY that gd Anthony? I have only seen 'Lola', Demy's first film, and it was ok in a kind of early '60s new wave Frenchy ohlala way, but nowhere near as mindblowing as Godard, Truffaut, Rivette's early pics. I know 'Umbrellas...' is in colour rather than b/w, which could make all the difference, of course - Godard's 'Une Femme Est Une Femme', made abt the same time, has some of the loveliest technicolor reds you will ever see.

I have probs. with most musicals, too..

The last scene w. denuve in the mercedes hidden under that coat and she looks so resigened . the fourth or fifth scene in the cafe where they are dancing . it goes from love to indifference to exquistie longing . it is the best movie ever made.

I was going to buy it a few weeks ago but it was £14.99, and I'm not paying that for a video. I'll keep an eye out for it in the post-Xmas sales.

It is completely and utterly lovely, but I wouldn't say that it's the best movie ever made.
