New York City Help

My friend, currently living in Barcelona, is going to be on some kind of exchange thing in NYC from september to christmas, and has asked me if anyone could help her sort out some work, or give her some work, or knows someone who might. i think her bf will be there legit for work/school type purposes, but i'm guessing no work visa for her, so it would be cash-in-hand, under-the-table type stuff.

anyway...?

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

direct her to http://newyork.craigslist.org/

jane (jane), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

the hungarian pastry shop, located at 110th and amsterdam hires with loose regard to citizenship status. it's a combination barista/waitress type of job, people give their orders at the front, then sit down and you bring them their coffee. you can really make decent money during busy hours too.

carly, Wednesday, 9 March 2005 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait, isn't that the same pastry shop we attended during the July 4 FAP?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know, but once when i was working bill murray came in. he left a 100% tip.

carly, Wednesday, 9 March 2005 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i think m4gnoli4 b4kery, in the west village, hires under-the-table. a friend of mine worked for quite some time without any legal status.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 10 March 2005 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, yeah, NYC is really hard to find illegal work in though (sorry to be discouraging).

paulhw (paulhw), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

NYC is in my experience one of the best places to work under the table, with few big corporate chains and lots of little independent places struggling to stay afloat.

carly, Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

about 2/3 the restaurants & bars ive worked at have been cash-in-hand and had dirty foreigners on staff. the money is pretty decent. at least $100 per shift, sometimes $200 or more.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 10 March 2005 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I kinda sometimes think of NYC as a place where it's hard to work over the table. When it comes to retail and service type stuff there's plenty of semi-exploitative opportunities, and that's leaving alone the whole world of freelancey or contracty things you can do for people. I mean, geez, this city has a practically third-world level of people just improvising their shit.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 10 March 2005 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

The Hungarian Pastry Shop is for SCREENWRITERS

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, well, in that case, i think what im asking is, would anyone be able to help my friend in any way?

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, is it possible to live in NYC for two months and pay under $1300 for rent? I would like to do so but am afraid it is impossible (for various unique reasons in each case, I cannot ask to stay with any of my friends from there).

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

It's possible, Maria. I think you'd have to find someone, probably in Brooklyn, who's looking to sublet something for just the right two months -- and definitely with other people, like a spare two months on one room in a three-person loft. In other words, coincidences may be needed. But $1300 is a reasonable enough amount to put into it, particularly for an awkward two-month thing where the subletter doesn't have a whole lot of leeway.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

On the other hand, you totally shouldn't listen to me, since I've never actually had to find myself a place here and would probably wind up homeless if I tried.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

1300/month for rent?? um yeah, thats easy!!!

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

im moving to a 2br in south williamsburg or whtever you call it and its $1000/month for the whole thing

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks nabisco. any ideas how i could go about that? like, just craigslist or something?

phil- not $1300 month, $1300 for two months. (actually i'm hoping less, because i also need to buy food and pay for transportation with that money...yeah. probably not happening.)

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 10 March 2005 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

craigslist is a good place to look, but don't forget that you might need to pay a deposit even if it's just a 2 month sublet. people in nyc tend to be crazy about deposits.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 11 March 2005 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.newyorkhabitat.com/ has sublet listings as well.

C0L1N B... (C0L1N B...), Friday, 11 March 2005 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

"South Williamsburg" - does this mean "near the Navy Yard?"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 11 March 2005 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I would think S. Williamsburg would be more near the JMZ instead of the L train.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Friday, 11 March 2005 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

what months would this be? i might be looking to sublet my place now and then to go travel.

but yeah, its like south 4th and union, across the street from this place that makes good stewed chicken and fried plantains

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 11 March 2005 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

sometime between june and august. i'm not sure, as i'm not even sure i'll be working there (basically my school is giving me $1300 to set up an internship somewhere, so i am contacting maritime history museums to see who'd like some free labor, and looking at south street seaport among them).

Maria (Maria), Friday, 11 March 2005 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
Help me, NYC ILx, you're my only hope.

So I'll be in New York in a couple of weeks (A COUPLE OF WEEKS! FANTASTIC!) and I need some relatively specialised advice. Here's how it is:

My aeroplane is scheduled to touch down at JFK 11.55am on Thursday 15th June. There is a game of our soccer which I would very much like to see, and that game kicks off at noon that day. Now I reckon my chances of seeing the whole game are something like my chances of being called up at the last minute to play in the team, but I think and hope I can catch some of it. So I am looking for a recommendation for a bar (or similar) which will:

(a) be open at noon on the 15th
(2) be showing the World Cup of footballsoccer at noon on the 15th
(iii) be easy and relatively quick to get to from JFK, either by public transportation or in an cab taxi vehicle
(d) be the kind of place where a blatant Englishperson or two could safely and sensibly watch an England game on the telly without being robbed or otherwise molested.

My good friend Tim is hoping to join me, he'll be in NYC already, staying in Greenwich Village. He'll be able to travel in time for kick-off, but somewhere sensibly navigable from the Village would be superperfect.

Am I asking for the moon on a sticky stick?

I hope also we will drink, NYC, but that question is for another thread and perhaps even another day.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 13:14 (twenty years ago)

i don't have any specific info, but perhaps this can help:

http://www.soccerbars.com/modules/soccerbars/

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

Tim, do you have Ben's email? You should try to get through to him, he's the best source I know of. Otherwise a bit later in the day I can call Nevada Smith's and Nathan Hale's to see if they're showing that match.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:24 (twenty years ago)

Best bet would probably be McCormack's--you could take the shuttle bus from JFK to Grand Central ($10), walk a couple blocks east to Third Ave, then down a few blocks til you get there. I've watched games there before, it's pretty good.

Eppy (Eppy), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:26 (twenty years ago)

Laurel, I don't (unless he's still at inch?).

Eppy, I'm hoping to find somewhere nearer to JFK, rather than go into Manhattan, largely for time reasons. Thanks for the recommendation though!

I've no way of telling whether the bars cited in Brooklyn / Queens in the link mookie posted are likely to be dangerous or not. It's not so much that I mind for myself, because I can always chicken out of going in somewhere if it looks shady, but it would be bad to arrange to meet a friend somewhere on the dodgy side.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Oh hmm, you want to be in Queens? I'll email you Mr Metrostar's address to yr work account, will that do?

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:42 (twenty years ago)

I have no special need for it to be in Queens, the important thing is that I need to be able to get there reasonably swiftly from the airport.

Work account would be perfect, thank you! (Thank you all!)

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:50 (twenty years ago)

Hey Tim!

Just to give another option, you should come to Floyd's. It's in Brooklyn so will take slightly less time to get to. It's an English stylee pub so you'd be right at home, plus there's a greasy chip shop (called Chip Shop) next door. Then after the match you could walk down to the Promenade and see the lovely view of Manhattan.

Or McCormack's is good if you want to save some money on transportation, although the bus takes longer. Oh, and I can guarantee that Nevada Smith's will be showing the match and will also be completely packed.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:51 (twenty years ago)

If you go to Sunnyside (a rather Irish part of Queens) you shouldn't have any trouble finding an appropriate spectation spot, and no it's not dangerous. This place is supposed to be good, and most of mookieproof's link's places are right around there too. See also this list.

Paul Eater (eater), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:52 (twenty years ago)

the usual manhattan football pubs will be charging a hefty cover, right?

there is a place in w'burg on near the graham stop called harefield road which will be showing all games and has a large selection of beer.

eatadick.com (Carey), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Unless the Brooklyn / Queens pub is fairly close to either JFK or the freeway (or the A train) it won't necessarily save you any time, believe me. The fastest thing might be to find a place in downtown Brooklyn and take the A to borough hall. It's always a crapshoot though.

Eppy (Eppy), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:59 (twenty years ago)

Thanks everyone! Will have a look around these recommendations (and any others anyone may come up with, obv.)

The relative time taken to get around the place is something I don't know enough to judge, it's all very tricky.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 15:02 (twenty years ago)

You can take the Airtrain to the A and if it's running fast you can get to the Hoyt-Schemerhorn stop and jog over to Smithwick's in about 40 minutes. It's always hard to tell what the traffic's going to be like back from JFK at a given time of the day, but it can take forever to drive anywhere from there, whereas I've been shocked how fast the A gets there.

Eppy (Eppy), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 15:06 (twenty years ago)

(xpost) Realistically, it might be very tight to make it somewhere in time. You've got to account for your plane actually arriving on time, getting through customs, picking up your luggage (assuming you don't do carry-on), waiting in the queue for a taxi, then travel time (last night it took me 25 minutes to get from JFK to downtown Brooklyn, and that was without any traffic). If you're intent on catching the game, your best bet might be to find an airport bar instead!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 15:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to be carry-on all the way, all being well, but I had a horrible feeling someone would say what Aaron's just said.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 15:09 (twenty years ago)

(Last time I was at JFK I seem to remember it took me a bit less than an hour to emerge from the airport, which - assuming the plane is on time - would give me another full hour and a bit to get somewhere in time for the second half.)

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 15:10 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, the last flight I took from the UK ended up sitting on the runway for like a half hour once it arrived at JFK! But you never know.

Eppy (Eppy), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Erk!

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 15:17 (twenty years ago)

At least Englerland is playing Trinidad. That shouldn't give them much trouble, should it? (Although I do realize that's not really the point).

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 15:20 (twenty years ago)

There are no easy games at this level! Trinidad looked a bit dodge the other night (playing Wales) but they have enough decent players that aything could happen. ANYTHING!

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 15:30 (twenty years ago)

I can't imagine a Queens/Brooklyn bar being dangerous, at least one showing a football game in the middle of the day. I'd worry a lot more about getting to it, and then getting from it to Manhattan. It conceivably could be faster to just go to Manhattan first.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 15:31 (twenty years ago)

McCormack's is where I was planning on watching a number of the games. Any idea if they will be charging? I gave up on Nevada Smiths, it's going to be so crowded they're taking out seating just to make more room.

TRG (TRG), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 16:27 (twenty years ago)

i'm going to advocate for the alibi in ft greene brooklyn. it will not be crowded, it will not charge a cover, it will be showing the world cup and it's a dive bar with a soccer fanatic owner. it's also closer to the airport than anything mentioned so far.

take the airtrain to the A - take the A toward manhattan to nostrand ave - take the C 2 stops toward manhattan to clinton/washington - walk four blocks north. the whole trip should take about 45-50 min. as others have mentioned taking a cab that time of day is a crap shoot but probably wouldn't take any longer than the subway, cost: $40 - $50.

the clinton/washington stop is of course on fulton not atlantic.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 22:03 (twenty years ago)

Barring construction work, etc, a cab from JFK will only take about 30 minutes to get to these Brooklyn joints at that time of day.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 22:39 (twenty years ago)

And the Alibi is close to my house! And I like it there! Bravo.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 23:28 (twenty years ago)

i so wanted t&t to draw.

Tim Update:

Tim saw an hour of the game and is very happy.

Tonight, we are going to Northsix for Saturday etc&. Show is at 9 p.m.
Now we are going to Pies N Thighs and will report accordingly.

Tim brought this and other non-yummy things from Waitrose:

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 15 June 2006 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

Hurrah! I can't make it out tonight but please post Tim's plans for tomorrow, other than watching Lee Ann Womack in the eve. And is it Daddy's on Saturday, then?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 15 June 2006 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

I can't make it tonight, I have a 2-hour rehearsal and anyway am broke and my bike was stolen yesterday so I can't come and meet you easily in Wburg. :(((( SATURDAY.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 15 June 2006 20:37 (nineteen years ago)

I'd still quite like to play bridge! Like, in a bar or something.

Don't Matos and Paul Eater have a regular bridge night?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 15 June 2006 20:40 (nineteen years ago)

Sounds like Tim is in good company. Sorry I won't be able to make it to the show tonight. Could someone keep me posted on plans for Saturday?

youn (youn), Thursday, 15 June 2006 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

Avast ye swabs.

So I've been up for 24 hours and am feeling suitably scrambled, especially given the fistful o' Brooklyn lager I took medicinally (for the nerves innit) just past noon, by which time I'd been up for 13 hours or so already. So don't be expecting much in the way of sense from me.

I had to buy some non-greasy sunblock in an attempt to prevent my rapidly balding pate from looking like a tomato, or perhaps a baked bean in tomato sauce. Definitely something tomato related.

Friday plan: tootle around NYC I guess, take in a little art in Chelsea maybe, get the ferry in the late afternoon. I'd post my mobile telephone number but I'm not that sleep deprived, yet.

SATURDAY SOUNDS GOOD too.

That wasn't much use, was it? Sorry.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 15 June 2006 22:45 (nineteen years ago)

WELL DONE TIM

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 16 June 2006 09:14 (nineteen years ago)

YES, I second that emotion. Give them hell for us!

Pete (Pete), Friday, 16 June 2006 09:37 (nineteen years ago)

Hi Tim! You will be pleased to know you missed nothing of any interest in the game, except for Dwight Yorke being hit in the knackers, which you might possibly have enjoyed.

Say hello to them all for me. Of course, I could do that on this thread, but its not the same is it?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 June 2006 09:42 (nineteen years ago)

So are ppl drinking in W'burg tomw? Daddy's?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 16 June 2006 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

Hey I just spoke with Tim... Anyone interested in meeting up in the Village/Soho area for a drink after he gets back from his Lee Ann Womack concert?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 16 June 2006 18:44 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, I am down with that for tonight.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 16 June 2006 18:54 (nineteen years ago)

Sweet. I said I'd call or text him if we put together a plan. So, uh, what's the plan?? :)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 16 June 2006 18:55 (nineteen years ago)

i'm planning on having a qni, but someone please text me and let me know what's happening as plans develop. if it's close enough to the apt and if the guy next door is going at it as usual with the bangin' trance and what sounds like tap-heavy folk dancing, then i might wander over.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 16 June 2006 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

Hi Lauren!

felicity (felicity), Friday, 16 June 2006 19:12 (nineteen years ago)

hi!

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 16 June 2006 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

So, any idears? Hi Lauren!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 16 June 2006 20:22 (nineteen years ago)

For tonight, how about Lolita -- 266 Broome at Allen?

felicity (felicity), Friday, 16 June 2006 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

We will be there after about 11 or 12.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 16 June 2006 23:03 (nineteen years ago)

Ah my dears New York city treats me well, although I have used so much sunblock that I look like one of those cross-channel swimmers who smears themselves with LARD. And yet still I catch the brutal sun which beats down upon the Americas.

It seems that the choice of champions for tomorrow (Saturday) night is Daddy's (I'm more of an HP sauce man myself but the sacrifice will be small). It seems we are going to see some cricket or rounders tomorrow evening (feel free to come with) so in all likelihood I won't be at yer Daddy's until 11.30 pm or thereabouts. I hope to see drunk ilxors when I get there. Please?

Lee Ann Womack rules.

Tim (Tim), Saturday, 17 June 2006 06:10 (nineteen years ago)

Are the rules for cricket or rounders more complicated than the rules for baseball? I'm thinking of going to see Saturday Looks Good To Me, which ends at 6. Will there be time to make it to cricket? Also, the Dada exhibition starts tomorrow at MOMA, but I'll probably see it later.

youn (youn), Saturday, 17 June 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

This is the price I pay for making smart-arsed posts when I'm over"tired". Actually it's the price you pay for reading my nonsense.

When I said cricket or rounders, I meant baseball, in this case the Mets. Sorry.

Clarity's overrated anyway.

I'm afraid I have no idea about the timings involved in planning the days. Things just seem to happen by magic. Perhaps one of our helpful friends will clarify.

Tim (Tim), Saturday, 17 June 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

The spinner Martinez bowls for the Metropolitans this eve, I understand. The Daily Mirror says to watch for a trio of young batsmen, in particular the geezer Milledge.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 17 June 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha

So yr going to Daddy's postgame? The 7 to the G should get u there in 60-90 mins.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 17 June 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, Tim's getting to see Pedro? Lucky.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 17 June 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

One red flag was raised in the third inning, when Benson touched Martínez for the first home run by an Orioles pitcher since 1972. At the time, Anna Benson was outside the women's bathroom, smoking a cigarette. When family members found her and shared the news, she told them, "Shut up, he did not."

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/18/sports/baseball/18mets.html

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 18 June 2006 05:41 (nineteen years ago)

That awful Benson home run notwithstanding, I had a lovely time at the ol ballpark with Tim and Felicity. Row V is the very last row at the stadium, and remarkably a very pleasant way to watch the game. Nice breeze and view of Manhattan through the fence up there.

So, NYC took good care of Tim and we wish him the best on his voyage throughout the Northeastern United States!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Sunday, 18 June 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

Likewise. It was very nice to see everyone who made it to Daddy's as well!

FYI: Tim does not like Mr. Met at all and if given the choice between having to spend an hour alone with Mr. Met and being forced to grow a Williamsburg-style cop moustache for 1 month, Tim would rather spend an hour alone with Mr. Met, but only because he could beat him up.

felicity (felicity), Sunday, 18 June 2006 17:27 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, it was a total pleasure meeting everyone at daddy's! hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday, tim.

sleep (sleep), Sunday, 18 June 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

Tim would prefer Mr. Met's company to the vaguely humanoid Yankee bleacher creatures, I'm sure.

Too bad I got to Daddy's at 2:30! Glad some of you were still there...

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 19 June 2006 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

For the record, this is one reason that I think Wburg is kind of shitty(tm). Have fun getting into the city if this thing goes through.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

You're right, that proposal totally sucks. But it's a proposal for a radical upzoning of Williamsburg coming from an outside developer that current zoning does not allow and that nobody in Williamsburg actually wants. I'm not sure how it makes Williamsburg shitty that some pig of a developer has (theoretical) designs on it.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 20:13 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, just that it seems like the next logical step for redevelopment in Wburg... Obnoxious, over-sized condos with absolutely no regard for basic infrastructure. Although, to be fair that's pretty much true everywhere in NYC. In fact, this Slate article has me re-thinking any support for the Ratner development.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 20:36 (nineteen years ago)

hi, nyc people!

youn (youn), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 23:58 (nineteen years ago)

hi yrslf

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 03:36 (nineteen years ago)

NYC, thank you for all your help.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 26 June 2006 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

28 obnoxious, over-sized high-rises with absolutely no regard for basic infrastructure in williamsburg sounds like a great idea to me. might as well build tons of housing in an already shitty area so as to reduce price pressure in areas i actually want to live.

letham's rant on the atlantic yards (which i live 3 blocks away from) didn't really do anything to change my feelings on the thing - still v mixed.

the argument that most confounds me is It's the scale, stupid - as if this isn't new york. the krazy quilt of different architectural styles and sizes is a big part of what gives it charm, no? the fact that people look at brooklyn's brownstone neighborhoods and see architectural harmony speaks to the pervasiveness of the disarray. in ft greene (where i live) there are brownstones hard against prewar apartment buildings 50 years newer and three times as tall. there's 20+ story projects across the street from single story retail strips. there's a building made out of trash. there's old carriage houses and even a few mansions. from my window i can see a bunch of buildings over 20 stories. there is no architectural consistency and it's quite lovely.

the general shitty ghost-town quality of most huge urban projects and the blade runner feel of this one's design argue better against it than any weird preservationism.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Monday, 26 June 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

actually the projects are terrible and not lovely - so there's that.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Monday, 26 June 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

(xpost) Cheers Tim. I'm gonna try my hardest to come your way over my Christmas break. Seems like the right thing to do!!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 26 June 2006 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

sorry to miss you this time, tim!

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 26 June 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

London, thank you for Tim's visit!

I loved the Paul Etienne Lincoln show

and it was wonderful sharing Tim's appreciation of the NYC skyline from UD Row V at Shea, even if Pedro didn't have his best stuff.

Joel, sorry to miss you too. Hope the bachelor party was fun.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 26 June 2006 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

it was, tho sorta depressing at the same time.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 26 June 2006 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

Stence: yes sorry to have missed you. The loss is all mine, obv.

FR: I seem to recall my appreciation consisted mainly of incoherences along the lines of "cor, check it out" and similar, sorry. I blame it on the feat that that ballheaded FREAK was going to pop up like Mephistopheles and start troubling me.

TNS:AS: I didn't, though I ended up buying one of these:

which got me into a couple of conversations on the aeroplane home.

The Ivy League are playing at the Cake Shop and Northsix on Jul. 8 and 9, respectively. I'll be flying back to NYC on Saturday, so if anyone wants to go, I think it would be fun. More info: http://www.thisisivyleague.com/

one year passes...

Is Marchand de Legumes (Japanese novelty store) still in Nolita? I walked by where I thought it would be on Elizabeth Street between Houston and Prince but I didn't see it. And wasn't there another store that sold Marchand de Legumes products somewhere else in Nolita? My NYC is rusty.

What church is at 1:44? I don't think it's Riverside.

And where are they on horses at 1:50? SW part of Central Park?
