we should have a thread where we talk about the movie ROBOTS

It was pretty good! It had the absolute most appropriately placed Tom Waits song of any movie ever, if just that.

Poor Greg Kinnear. Will he ever be cast NOT in that role?

What, the role of the douchebag?

However, I'm kinda getting tired of animated blockbusters with these "omg be yourself, follow your dreams!" themes.

Kinnear was pretty amazing in that biopic about the Hogan's Hero guy, Autofocus.

how suitable would this film be for a three-yr-old who has never sat through a real movie in a theater? specifically, are there many explosions, guns, or scaryish monsters? there's a theater near my place that has a "kids/parents only" mid-day show where they just dim the lights a bit so kids can run around (and make noise) when their attention span runs out.

It is eye-candylicious enough that it will probably appeal to teh wee ones. I think too many of the gags were aimed at adults, but whatever. There was this one fart joke that was pretty wicked funny.

tobo! what the fuck - how's the wee one? is he in a spacerock band yet?

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 11 March 2005 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

not in a spacerock band yet. in fact, a couple of days ago he made me turn off some early Lilys album (sort of spacerock, I guess) in favor of "Free to Be You and Me." Not a good sign, but I must say it's one of the more palatable kids albums that I know of. Going to a loud movie theater will be an experiment, to be sure.

I rocked "Free to be You and Me" all the time as a kid - the wee bairn's got good taste!

It's all right to cry, you know.

I can't imagine this movie being any good, I just loathe robin williams so.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 11 March 2005 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah me too. GET A NEW ROUTINE PLEASE.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 11 March 2005 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Robin Williams DOES suck a bloated goatnut alright, but apparently not enough to bring the movie down. His character's only truly funny scenes are the only scenes in which he doesn't say anything.

I wish they had let Paul Giamatti do that character instead of Tim the robot at the gate to Bigweld Industries. What a waste of a voice.

nza, Friday, 11 March 2005 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, if ANYBODY had been cast in that role instead of him, this would almost be as good as, um, the worst of the Pixar films.

and by 'anybody' I mean ANYBODY, Friday, 11 March 2005 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i saw this. i thought it SO paled next to the incredibles. i mean, yeah, it looked good but the script was totally for shit--really bad characterization and full of holes. and it wasn't funny, not one bit.
