1.42 Ghz Mini, geek up the RAM, 19" LCD. Should get you in under the CAN$1800 wire.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 14 March 2005 05:08 (twenty-one years ago)

with an extra 256megs ram

Always. Even the PowerMacs only come with 256 RAM. Ludicrous.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Monday, 14 March 2005 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i hear apple is going to bump up the standard ram to 512 soon!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 14 March 2005 05:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, it's not like it's hard to order the extra RAM now, it just amounts to deceptive pricing. You pay $1499 for a computer that doesn't work very well, or add an extra hundred dollars to make it work!

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Monday, 14 March 2005 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought they did already fucking mac rumor sites

green uno skip card (ex machina), Monday, 14 March 2005 05:16 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 14 March 2005 05:20 (twenty-one years ago)

eMac != Emacs

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

go for a reconditioned/refurbished one from apple - it's about 20% off. i did that and the thing is pristine, no worries. then i got cheap ram from a regular supplier. in the uk, the store does this only on wed, but on the apple.com site if you click "store" then the "SAVE" red ticket icon and finally "Apple certified" tab at the top you get refurbished deals

looks like they're all about 200 dollars off, which on a mid-range imac G5 is fabulous value for a fabulous looking piece of kit. though if you want to go the mini route and don't mind cheap'n'ugly peripherals that's way cheaper, but they are only a "last generation" machine (G4 that is)
