Okay, so: was it the Post or the Daily News that had a headline this weekend -- referring to Hillary Clinton -- that read HILL SLAP?

I spent a good five minutes trying to sort out what the pun was (bull crap? Ronnie Milsap?) before I realized it was an incredibly sly way of calling Hillary Clinton a bitch.

I mean, trust me, I thought maybe I was overthinking it, but c'mon: this is a tabloid newspaper! They take loads of pride in constructing front-page headlines. I'm confident that a whole bunch of very bright (and very bitter/cynical) people were involved in constructing HILL SLAP, and that they thought about it way more than I did. It's not like tabloid headlines are thought up by a sole humorless schlub somewhere.

But the headline as it stands doesn't say anything. The story was about an attack on her, I think, which would call for maybe HILL GETS SLAPPED. If it was the other way around, maybe HILL SLAPS. But what they chose -- HILL SLAP -- suggests that a slap has occurred, and the type of the slap was ... a HILL SLAP. Which means nothing; it doesn't pun; it doesn't play off of anything. Except that there's a common term "bitch slap."
