Everyday that Kentucky plays in an NCAA tournament basketball game is a Workplace Social Event. For like hundreds of miles!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 17 March 2005 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

the best thing about these is they're always in 60 pt font against a bright blue background!

(by best I mean WORST)

well, I always end up taking whatever it is back to my desk anyway, so my exposure to jimmy buffett should be minimal.

last time it was a superbowl party for the Patriots. This guy had a DVD of one of the previous Patriots superbowl victories playing on his laptop up on a projection screen. But his corporate screensaver is set to go off every 10 minutes, so it kept blacking out.

You know, once I get a new job and realize that these ILX lame-o office social events are not made up and are in fact the norm, I'm going to so miss my old office. Our social events were like mandatory orgies.

Jimmy Mod Has Returned With Spices And Silks (ModJ), Thursday, 17 March 2005 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

They don't do social events in my dept. Probably because its all women, two gay guys and me.

We had a 'cake break' once. Some suit came up from head office (about 300 miles away) to give a short congratulatory talk in the boardroom that culminated in a few sweaty doughnuts being passed round in silence.

We went for haggis on Robbie Burns day. That's about it for where I work.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 17 March 2005 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

All of our social events revolve around charity and getting drunk.

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 17 March 2005 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

you can barely even talk about getting drunk where i work.

not that i would ever EVER want to drink with anyone here.

At the record store where I work, we have holiday parties once a year which means lots of free booze, but unfortunately, the younguns getting smashed for the very first time. The last real office job that I had regularly scheduled annoying activities in the cafeteria, like the showing of this motivational film about a bunch of sailors on a boat. That was months before the place lost money and laid off everyone.
