Sturgeon Fishing

Has anyone ever gone? I just got a crazy-ass one piece rod and a giant Penn reel as a present; I haven't been out yet. From what I hear, fishing for sturgeon can be one of the most tedious and frustating pursuits there is: you might fish for weeks before you get a bite. I was told to buy an eel and let it rot for a couple days outside - that's your best bait.

This set-up would also work well out by the Farallons - anybody been on a party boat out in the ocean for rock fish? I might try that instead.

I've always wanted to go. I used to spend time tuna fishing w. my grandfather, and found it wonderful - mostly just a bunch of guys sitting on a boat smoking cigars and drinking and telling dirty jokes (not me, I was a wee'un) and not in the least bit tedious. But ... I dunno. I might not like it as much as an adult. I would like it better than the homophone I thought of for this thread: surgeon fisting.

Anyone see this picture? Great deep sea fishing scenes, with George C shooting an automatic rifle at a shark!
