phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 18 March 2005 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 18 March 2005 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

It's all a diversion, this country is going to hell:

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 18 March 2005 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Alright, I'm not saying it's entirely trivial but do we need ROUND THE CLOCK COVERAGE of the hearing that pre-empts all other programming? Is it that important?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 18 March 2005 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Like the stuff on MSNBC they're pre-empting is any more important?

()ops (()()ps), Friday, 18 March 2005 02:13 (twenty-one years ago)

dammit where's my round the clock michael jackson and scott peterson coverage?!!!?

()ops (()()ps), Friday, 18 March 2005 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I NEED MORE REACTION TO THE ROBERT BLAKE VERDICT

j blount (papa la bas), Friday, 18 March 2005 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

STAT

()ops (()()ps), Friday, 18 March 2005 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I like how everyone here is acting like Alex is wrong and that this is like really super important and something that should've required a congressional hearing!!

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Friday, 18 March 2005 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think it should have required a congressional hearing, but it is pretty important.

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Friday, 18 March 2005 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

j blount and oops otm.

teh mcgwireizer, Friday, 18 March 2005 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

....who the fuck cares about this?

.
.
I couldn't agree with you more

EComplex (EComplex), Friday, 18 March 2005 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the thing that really set me off about this was seeing people like congressmen Dennis Kucinich and Christopher Shays getting all stroppy and incredulous and blow-hardy as if the very fabric of our nation was at stake (where was this passonate venom at the 9/11 hearings or during the last presidential campagins?)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 18 March 2005 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I suspect George Will is at the heart of it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 March 2005 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Even though I'm interested because I love baseball, I definitely think the government has more important things to worry about and better ways to spend my money than to have a Congressional hearing on this.

57 7th (calstars), Friday, 18 March 2005 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I like how Ally must have been reading some other, perhaps imaginary, thread.

()ops (()()ps), Friday, 18 March 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

So, uhh.. how about that Alaskan oil drilling?

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 18 March 2005 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex/Ned/57 7th OTM.

People who are dicks part 8: oops

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Friday, 18 March 2005 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i'm a dick cause you tried to do your old "omg you people are all morons" thing for the 203948203984 time with no basis.

()ops (()()ps), Friday, 18 March 2005 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

re: baseball/steroids, I think that MLB is so poorly managed, esp from a PR perspective, that it is an easy target for politicians. and, more specifically, a congressional hearing like this is a pretty good forum for putting baseball's morons (players and mgmt) on the spot. but, yeah, I'm sure there are more important things congress could be worrying about.

tobo (tobo), Friday, 18 March 2005 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I was just saying that "like news channels show anything worthwhile anyway!" isn't exactly a good counterargument to the general point here. Maybe you should go, misunderstand, RJG, some more, on the car thread?

xpost: I mainly feel bad cos I feel like baseball is the sport that is always picked on! And yeah, congressional hearings on steroid abuse=isn't this something that should just be handled by MLB, important media event or not?

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Friday, 18 March 2005 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

no, that is not what you said.

()ops (()()ps), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax OTMFM. This is complete and utter bullshit.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

the ilb thread is better shockah

j blount (papa la bas), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

of course, this is how I feel about pretty much all sports, but Congress doesn't usually waste its time seeing how RBIs are doing this year

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

If the Alaskan opening involved celebrities in any way, you can bet the coverage would be massive.

57 7th (calstars), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I mainly feel bad cos I feel like baseball is the sport that is always picked on!

Totally.

Shatterproof Glass (dymaxia), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

ALLY, i think that larger point, was, largely, nonexistent. - in this case. also, while true, rather trite.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i got to watch all of this for my job yesterday. sort of like alex, except i was actually interested.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

props to espn for pointing out the irony of this joker's involvement

j blount (papa la bas), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

hpencil i would like to hear yr thoughts!

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes but what does Vince McMahon have to say about all this?

Dude, are you a 15 year old asian chick? (jingleberries), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a baseball fanatic, and the hearing was entirely trivial. Except for Mark McGwire's reputation, possibly.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that Bernie Sanders should maybe retire as the Yankees' Center Fielder, but the other Bernie Sanders makes a hell of a congressman.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I just re-read one of Alex in NYC's posts above, and I'm only sorry I didn't get to see congressmen making asses of themselves. Kucinich sounds just as twattish as I'd suspected, and not at all 'progressive' if he's making such a fuss about this.

Shatterproof Glass (dymaxia), Friday, 18 March 2005 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

when did mark mcgwire start looking so old and withered?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 18 March 2005 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

'roids will do that to a man.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 19 March 2005 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

his neck's always looked like a luckier burn victim

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 19 March 2005 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm so tired of reading/hearing about steroids. Please, god, make the talking heads shut the hell up.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Saturday, 19 March 2005 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I mainly feel bad cos I feel like baseball is the sport that is always picked on!

you mean like MLB's exemption from the antitrust laws?
