If a figure increases from 380 to 480, what percentage increase is that? Please explain the reasoning too. Thanks, I'm stupid.

moley (moley), Monday, 21 March 2005 06:28 (twenty-one years ago)

100/380

ryan (ryan), Monday, 21 March 2005 06:30 (twenty-one years ago)

380 + x380 = 480, where x is the percentage

x380 = 100

x = 100/380

x = .38

actually hang on, ryan was right

moley (moley), Monday, 21 March 2005 06:41 (twenty-one years ago)

oh shit, yeah, of course -- it's actually .26

haha i am dumm, apparently i forgot how to divide

Stormy Davis (diamond), Monday, 21 March 2005 06:49 (twenty-one years ago)

(new - old) / old

so, 80 going to 100 would be (100-80)/80, which is 20/80, which is .25 or 25$.

but if 100 goes to 80, then it's (80-100)/100, which is -20/100, which is -.20 or -20%.

you're not stupid.
