Let's sorta combine the two problems! Going clockwise = going right! You're fixed! I am brilliant! Pay me!

I am so god-awful w/ names, and my boss & I do not run at the same speeds. Our conversations turn into time trials w/ him going zzzzoooom & me just nodding along.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 24 March 2005 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

david my left-right problem is deep-seated and insoluble: combining it w.clockwise will make me forget which way clocks go

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 24 March 2005 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

mark i also have very much difficulty with the left and right thing. you don't need it, so much. At least that's what I decided.

Left and right become more confusing in a mirror.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Thursday, 24 March 2005 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i fall asleep while people are describing things to me at my desk, even if i've had ages to sleep each night, there's just something about sitting at the computer and having someone point at things, their hand flashing silhouettes in front of this glowing electron screen... so lulling.. the drone of their voice. they all know to expect it now. i don't know if that qualifies as a mistake though. it feels very right!

I worked in an industrial bakery when I was 18, one of my duties was to boil a big saucepan of apricot jam so it was spreadable and practically every time I did this I would forget all about the vat of jam on the hob and only realise until it was burnt. Never the less, my supervisor continued to ask me to 'do the jam' and just laughed each time it happened. I fucking loved that job. All day decorating cakes and burning jam. How happy was I?

I still yell at the people who call my office sometimes. I don't know if anyone here finds it endearing, but they don't comment on it anymore. I think maybe they're scared of me. Yay!

I, too, have occasional problems with the lefty/righty stuff. I blame it on being left-handed.

sugarpants: the luscious ingenue (sugarpants), Thursday, 24 March 2005 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark, write L (or R) on your MOUSE

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

In ability to tell left from right and clockwise from counterclockwise is a classic symptom of dyslexia.

I have learned to solve the left/right quandary with the "right is the hand you write with, left is the hand left over" maxim. Of course this doesn't help if you're left handed.

I remember that the Dyslexia clinic was studying to see if there was a correlation between handedness and dyslexia but I can't remember if they drew a conclusion.

If you hold up your left hand in front of you with your thumb sticking out, it makes an L-shape.

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

whatever foolproof method is deployed, all that happens is that my confusion spreads from the thing i don't know (left/right) to things you'd think i do (like which way round an L goes)

it may well be a (albeit very specific and localised in my case) form of dyslexia

and where are all YOUR mistakes at work which this thread shd now be full of?

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I made a giant mistake on the FAP report this morning. Because I was hungover and overtired from having been out all night at a FAP. That was my terrible mistake that got laughed at. Sigh.

And they are STILL talking about the angry email I sent to a vendor weeks ago.

I am useless at "craft" projects that involve cutting or drawing a straight line. I make up for it by being really efficient with catalogue and orginizational projects, so they just see me as this klutzy speed demon. I don't have the patience for neatliness, ZOOOM!

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 24 March 2005 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

If you hold up your left hand in front of you with your thumb sticking out, it makes an L-shape.

I know someone who was told this trick but it didn't help because she'd hold her hands up and exclaim, "But they both look like L's!" Note that her first name began with an L.

mike h. (mike h.), Thursday, 24 March 2005 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark, if the problem's insoluble, it's just because your solvent's not strong enough! Try some HCl.

Whenever someone talks over my head, I tend to just let it slide, as I fear that I should know what they're talking about, and hope my big melon can somehow find a way towards a solution. I haven't been at a job long enough where this is common knowledge, but I'd like to think it could be my "thing" if I stick around. It could be like a commercial, where I'm covered in ink toner or paper cuts, and the higher-ups give me a jovial "oh, what're we gonna do w/ you?" look, and I pop a Mentos and smile.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 24 March 2005 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been doing my job for so long, I don't make as many mistakes. The technology has caught up and can catch the old errors people used to make.

Shatterproof Glass (dymaxia), Thursday, 24 March 2005 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I do type so fast that I make bad spelling or grammatical errors sometimes.

Shatterproof Glass (dymaxia), Thursday, 24 March 2005 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, sign me up for the "spend 4-6 hours debugging transposed letters in a variable name" cavalcade! THE FRESHMAKER!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 24 March 2005 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

is always being late to my work (which i despise...the work, not coming in late) a mistake? cuz i think they've grown to accept it.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I suppose some of my colleagues have become a bit endeared of my constant typoing of "-tion" ending words as "-tino", thus most of the clients I deal with end up working in the fields of CONSTRUCTINO or DEMOLITINO or somesuch.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

CONSTRUCTINA vs DEMOLITINA steel-cage grudge match!

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 25 March 2005 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)
