Once Popular SitComs That Didn't Make it in Syndication

Seinfeldv seems to me to be just as good now as ever. Same with Just Shoot Me and the Simpsons. But some popular sitcoms never made it, to their sydicators' collective chagrins. Which ones, and why do you 'spose?

The Cosby Show - huge hit in primetime. Huge dud, financially, in syndication. Bill got a check for $100 million, apparently, and no one ever watched it again.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show - never turned up with any regularity in syndication.

Er, what channels are you watching??? "The Cosby Show" is all over cable now and used to be on local affiliates back in the late 90s; ditto with "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" (only its syndication heyday was the 80s).

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

The Mary Tyler Moore Show used to be on a lot! Esp. on Nick at Nite.

Leon Bluth (Ex Leon), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I was hoping that this would be a thread where I could bring up It's Your Move yet again, but I suppose that's not to be.

Leon Bluth (Ex Leon), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I miss News Radio

Silky Sensor (sexyDancer), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, there should be more reruns of that.

Leon Bluth (Ex Leon), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

and Night Court. (Didn't it end up on cable?)

Doobie Keebler (Charles McCain), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

"American Office" sheeut. They already did it years ago, plus the guy died in a freak cocaine schizophrenic wife mixup.

Silky Sensor (sexyDancer), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

When they actually do rerun News Radio it's like the same five episodes over and over.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard that the Newsradio rights are tied-up in some court case (which has delayed the DVDs)

Doobie Keebler (Charles McCain), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Fox shows it on Sunday afternoons sometimes.

Huk-L, Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Doogie Howser didn't translate to syndication, but was that an hourlong drama, or did only feel like it was?

Huk-L, Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

It felt like it, for damn sure.

Where the eff is Alf!?! WILLIE!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Mary Hartman
Mary Hartman??

Trip Maker (Sean Witzman), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Alf's on DVD (which has kinda replaced Syndication as an archive for old TV)

Doobie Keebler (Charles McCain), Thursday, 24 March 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

News Radio used to be on A&E quite a bit.. It always come on during convenient times when I was on breaks in between classes in college.

NEWSRADIO DVDS MAY 24

adam (adam), Thursday, 24 March 2005 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Night Court and Newsradio were played all the time when I was in college. Used to watch both daily. And for some reason, Northern Exposure in one of the hours between.

mike h. (mike h.), Thursday, 24 March 2005 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Seasons 1 and 2. Some of the best episodes, though not the great ones with Lauren Graham.

adam (adam), Thursday, 24 March 2005 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Martin seems badly dated these days. (And MTM was hella sydindicated!)

andy --, Thursday, 24 March 2005 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i would really love to see the two-part family ties where alex deals with the death of his best friend again.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 24 March 2005 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

or the diff'rent strokes where arnold befriends an epileptic street clown.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 24 March 2005 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean the Alex P. Keaton stageplay? Or how about when they flashback and show that Wesley Crusher is Steven Keaton!

Huk-L, Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah the stageplay thing. that was a very special night of television.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Family Ties on DVD?

Huk-L, Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i wonder how northern exposure would look now.

f--gg (gcannon), Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

like twin peaks covered in h20!

latebloomer: damn cheapskate satanists (latebloomer), Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

my parents LOVED northern exposure...

latebloomer: damn cheapskate satanists (latebloomer), Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i have never seen a full episode of twin peaks.

f--gg (gcannon), Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Cosby was a big bomb in its initial sydication. If it's all over cable now, be sure they're getting it practically for free.

TVWatcher, Thursday, 24 March 2005 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Northern Exposure has the WORST DVD packaging Ive ever seen:

On a positive note, I noticed the other day that the Chappelle Show Season 2 DVDs are on presale now.
