this is the thread where we note the song running through our head at the moment of waking up

yesterday:
"it goes downstairs
it sits on chairs
rolls over your neighbour's dog"

today:
"i believe there'll be snow at christmas
i believe there'll be peace on earth"

this happens to me most mornings, sometimes w/o words

sometimes it's the other way round though: as freaky trigger readers will recall, i not so long ago woke with the words "sarcophagal jelly" on my lips

mark s (mark s), Friday, 25 March 2005 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

The first song I thought about was "Devil's Island" by Megadeth.

I shall have to start checking to see if songs are running in my head when I wake up.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 25 March 2005 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Grrr, I hate this, it's never anything I want!

Yesterday - McFly - It's all about you.

Today - Is this the way to Amarillo. I HATE this fucking song and I can't dislodge it.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Friday, 25 March 2005 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

al jolson's "you made me love you"

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Friday, 25 March 2005 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i hadn't thought about the log song for years.

jermaine (jnoble), Friday, 25 March 2005 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The Dragon Tails song from PBS Kids - a cartoon Rufus likes to watch in the morning. Often I wake up with annoying children's music in my head.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 25 March 2005 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

nothing doing, no song playing in me head this friday morning.

(but a bit later, after waking up quite-quite late anyway, i started humming and 'singing' "moon river", to the dismay of my daughter :)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Friday, 25 March 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

absolutely inexplicably, it's "Burnin' For You" by the Blue Oyster Cult.

Kim (Kim), Friday, 25 March 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

the inexplicable part is what makes this fun!

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Friday, 25 March 2005 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael Philip Philip Philip Philip Annoyman v1.0 (Ferg), Friday, 25 March 2005 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

"Turnstyle Blues" by the most excellent Autolux. "Shake shake shake shake the clouds out..."

Je4nne Ć’ury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 25 March 2005 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

"O Dana" Big Star, just the chorus.

crly, Friday, 25 March 2005 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Yep, I get this most mornings, too, and sometimes it stays with me the whole morning. I woke up today thinking a little snatch of Count Basie over and over.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Friday, 25 March 2005 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Annie "chewing gum"- because my gym has been playing that song for the last two days straight- jeeze there's no escape from the internet music . . .

I can state without a shadow of a doubt that tomorrow I will wake up singing My Sharona because I was dancing to it tonight and despite dancing to lots of other stuff after it, an hour after leaving the club I still can't shift it from my head.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 26 March 2005 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
katamari damacy

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 26 March 2005 06:01 (twenty-one years ago)

is katamari damacy the new super mario brothers?

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Saturday, 26 March 2005 06:10 (twenty-one years ago)

that's a good question. I do believe you are correct; no video game since super mario brothers 2 has done it for me (with possible exception of super mario brothers 3 but maybe not even then) until katamari damacy. that's a long time to fucking wait. but now I have the ultimate, the pinnacle, and I despair in knowing that such happiness may never be surpassed.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 26 March 2005 06:15 (twenty-one years ago)

The chorus of "I Predict a Riot" by the Kaiser Chiefs

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 26 March 2005 07:32 (twenty-one years ago)

tomorrow I will wake up singing My Sharona

Yes, 8.30 this morning I woke up with My Sharona in my head. I was probably singing it in my sleep.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 26 March 2005 10:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Over a long time ago

57 7th (calstars), Saturday, 26 March 2005 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I ever wake up with music in my head. At the moment, though, I can't get the Bubble Bobble music out of my mind.

caitlin (caitlin), Saturday, 26 March 2005 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

there's just no place for a street fighting man

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Yesterday I woke up from a dream where I was singing a dub version of The Beatles' 'She loves you' live on stage with The Communards. I couldn't really remember all the lyrics so I was mumbling a bit.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

This morning I had "Every Spearm Is Sacred" stuck in my head. Don't ask me; I haven't watched meaning of life for ages.

xpost: Play nicely!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Yesterday, a song by the Arcade Fire whose lyrics I don't know and which stayed with me all day to the point where homicide was considered.

This morning, 'Gigi', namely

"Have I been standing up too close or back too far
When did your sparkle turn to fire
And your warmth become desire
Oh what miracle has made you the way you are?"

The chorus of "I Predict a Riot"

It's pretty catchy, actually.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"my love is killing me," red elvises. the bit about her kissing his ear.

Maria (Maria), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

"Island of Lost Souls" by Blondie

"Hey buccaneer,
can you help me get my truck in gear..."

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The past two nights I've been waking up to weird exciting half-nightmares where I'm in Jack Bauer situations (relieved to not really be in danger, sad that I'm bored) and to sexual fantasies about my friend (who probably reads this board since I gave her the link, so I think all I'm going to say is HELLO CARRIE LIM, I AM HAVING SEXUAL FANTASIES ABOUT YOU AND YOU CAN"T DO SHIT ABOUT IT).

LeCoq (LeCoq), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Horrifyingly, I woke up this morning with that Brian McFadden/Delta Goodrem monstrosity in my head. I don't like the way my brain works. I should be waking up with cheerfulness and pop and jangle in my head, and instead I wake up wanting to pull my brains out through my ears with the nearest available coathanger.
