ok i can run my epson c60 from os9 no prob, and i USED to be able to run it from osX but after a meltdown at xmas i had to initialise and reinstall, and i can only install the printer on os9 now

obviously i am being dim (since it worked before) but what might i not be doing right? when i go to "add printer" it says "c60 - unsupported"

maybe try going to the epson website and see if they have a printer driver for OSX that you can download...

it has generally been odd since i reinstalled, lots of things not quite working right

(like i have to "reinstall" the modem every time i switch platforms, even though it says at the end of the reinstallation "modem all already installed"! if i don't it doesn't do anything when i click connect to go online)

and i can't use safari anymore on osX either :(

see i just don't think i had to do that before amt (but it wz three years ago so maybe i did)

I just reinstalled and my printer's not working either!

can't use safari?? that sounds bad mark! i.e. good, in that there may be some crucial gubbins down in the works that when righted will right all

have you tried "repairing permission" and stuff? there's a program that does it, http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21674&vid=188371&mode=info but i could very easily be talking nonsense

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 25 March 2005 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

(not nonsense, really; running the above program will do good things but maybe not the good thing you need)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 25 March 2005 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

is "crucial gubbins" your rasta handle, tracer hand?

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Friday, 25 March 2005 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

"repairing permission" what is this?

:0

i actually think i am going to initialise and reinstall over the weekend: i think os9 is not properly installed - i had a prob w.the CD drive going wonky DURING the install - and so not everything is talkin to everything else

mark s (mark s), Friday, 25 March 2005 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

ok that highlights one of the things i'm puzzled about - it needs osX 10.2 minimum (which i'm sure i had before) but i can't now seem to get beyond osX10.1.5

mark s (mark s), Friday, 25 March 2005 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry, repairing "permissions" - i don't really get it either, it's got to do with little permission flags that are set on different files, that get switched around by installer apps and other things by mistake, and it can often muck things up.

the app i linked to also cleans out old system logs and does a general spring cleaning, but you just reinstalled, hence the possible nonsensical nature of what i'm suggesting

i guess it can't hurt to do it again, including a good ol format of the drive, especially if there were flutters and dodges during installation itself

xpost: what needs 10.2 minimum, yr printer? what a finicky printer! if yr install disks say 10.1.5 then ahoy i see the white whale

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 25 March 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

(or poss just an iceberg, since safari's not workin either!)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 25 March 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

(the other thing is: i am v.v.v.dubious about starting up the "classic" platform from osX on my computer - this works fine on the computers at work, andf it is sold me as a "feature", but with mine it ALWAYS seems to cause weird bad glitchy stuff, and a mac engineer looking at my machine in ref.some other thing a year or two back said NEVER USE IT IT IS POISON)

mark s (mark s), Friday, 25 March 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

no yasu that you pointed me to needs 10.2 (but i think safari may too)

can i just download stuff to upgrade that far? i couldn't track anything down last week that allowed me to

mark s (mark s), Friday, 25 March 2005 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

oh i see, you could also try downloading this thing - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106900 - which says it works ONLY with 10.1.5

but if the CD drive was getting stroppy mid-install maybe just do the whole thing over again? haha grebt thing about this plan is that you can just TRASH the place beforehand if you want, so why not try the util above, maybe it will be like throwing a party right before you move house.. or you cd wait for someone like tombot to see this, he might have a much better idea about what's happening than i do

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 25 March 2005 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

well i will need to upgrade as much as i can also once i do reinstall, so maybe i should find out about that during the party stage!!

mark s (mark s), Friday, 25 March 2005 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

looking closer at that link on the apple site, and what it's supposed to actually do, it could be just what the doctor ordered, mark. although i can understand using the excuse of this situation to borrow friends' CDs and upgrade to the maxx at this point.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 25 March 2005 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

sincerely yrs, crucial gubbins esq.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 25 March 2005 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i tried it, it did some stuff - though not very much - but i also had a scary show-through of primary code sayin somethin abt "debugger" this or that

i take this to be a v.bad sign (related to the fuck-ups caused by launching the classic platform) so i am goin to initialise and reinstall whatever

seventeen years pass...

Oh hi. HP printer is now doing something really weird. Print something twice, the first time looks nice and sharp but the next time noticeably blurry like some really bad cheap reprint. What could it be? Some weird she’s lost control character?

one year passes...

difft computer, difft laptop, difft cause of probem -- but same problem tho (printer not working)

it was working this morning, then it went into repeat paper-jam mode like ten times in a row -- i cleared all the jams and did various other things that usually help* but now the printhead is behaving erratically (banging and clattering as it zips back and forth)** plus the paper is not feeding through out of the papertray

*wiped the ribbon and cleaned the rollers insofaras i can access them
**this makes me think it may be fvcked enough to biy a new home printer? this one is ten-plus years old and i no longer need one that's A3 compatible.

always hope a new printer will be a humming hi-tech miracle of smooth activity, instead of the usual clicks and clacks and scrapes and juddering lol

mark s, Saturday, 6 April 2024 16:49 (two years ago)

Bought a new printer a couple of weeks ago and it prints from my laptop via wi-fi with no problem, but forces me to unplug it and restart it every time I want to print something from the desktop computer it's actually plugged into. Very annoying.

Instead of create and send out, it pull back and consume (unperson), Saturday, 6 April 2024 16:56 (two years ago)

ok lol the black ink cartridge ran out ALREADY (i've printed maybe 120 pages since setting up?)

(tbf the cartridges are relatively inexpensive compared to my last printer)

also so far (after automatic the text run-out, which was in full colour) it's printed out everything as black and greyed-out -- but i imagine that's a me-problem settingswise (and as i mainly print text by considerable margins it's not yet an urgent problem)
