Oh, there's little better a time at work than losing an annoying and being served free confectionary goods!

kingfish, Friday, 25 March 2005 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

or, perhaps its for the tragedy of losing a valued team-member.

either way, man. free cake!

kingfish, Friday, 25 March 2005 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm workin a lateshift at work and my girlfriend emailed me to say she got free cake at work today. I asked her to save me some but she'd eaten it all already. Sucks.

Craig Gilchrist, Friday, 25 March 2005 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Last week I totally taunted my husband with an email that informed him that I was eating ice cream cake at work and he was not.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 25 March 2005 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

My break room has 1) water and 2) a coffee pot that no one ever, and I mean ever makes coffee in. Wheee community spirit.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 25 March 2005 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Free coffee, Red Bull, and lime-flavored Coca-Cola.

It's all well and good, but dammit, sometimes I could really go for a bagel or cookie or anything else that's solid food.

/Complaining about free shit on Good Friday = Classic.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 25 March 2005 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

My second day here at work (three days ago), I got an email from one of the team members saying he was offering "shit pastry" in from his office. I think our team all collectively paused.. then two minutes later (I'm guessing, after a correction via a private email), he sends a followup e-mail saying "I AM SO SORRY. I have sheet pastry in front of my office if you want some. Baklava.".. I ran there, and then it was all gone. :(

donut debonair (donut), Friday, 25 March 2005 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

One of our staff is a professional cake maker in her other part time job and brings one in to every staff meeting so KISS MY ARSE.

moley, Friday, 25 March 2005 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

We have vending machines close to where my office is. Yay Diet Coke and Snickers breakfasts! Or not. ;) Oh, but someone in our office always comes in every Monday morning with Krispy Kreme, so that makes Monday morning easier on me. And we now have a coffee machine, but it's too warm for me weather-wise to drink it right now. But actual CAKE? Not yet, not yet.

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 26 March 2005 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

free cake! leftover from the team player of the month celebration! also month-old flat soda discovered at the bottom of the fridge! cake!

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 26 March 2005 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Cake would be good, but to be honest I'd just kill for a beer right now (00:30am on a Friday night and I'm at work). :(

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Saturday, 26 March 2005 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

we get free cake every friday and sometimes free mcdonalds breakfast bagels or sausage & egg mcmuffins as well. our managers can be nice.

Tannenbaum Schmidt (Nik), Saturday, 26 March 2005 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I, uh, got Good Friday off. Yay South Louisiana and its high population of lunatic Catholics!

adam (adam), Saturday, 26 March 2005 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

When I got to work I had a chocolate Easter cupcake with two jellybeans nestled in purple frosting. CLASSIC!

weather1ngda1eson (Brian), Saturday, 26 March 2005 05:57 (twenty-one years ago)

dammit, the Free Cake Patrol just rolled by with the cart of free cake, but it was for another dept, so no free cake for me.

however, we did get cookies two days ago.

kingfish, Thursday, 7 April 2005 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i just got free cake! its a muffin that tastes like coffee cake, but its entirely brown. its tasty.

AaronK (AaronK), Thursday, 7 April 2005 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

We have a Leaving Day at work tomorrow. Hopefully, this will mean free cake!

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 7 April 2005 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yesterday, we celebrated a birthday with these delicious little tarts and taramisus (sp?). I sampled all of them.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 7 April 2005 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Today is a coworkers birthday and I didn't bring breakfast or lunch so I ate: two bagels, a chocolate chip muffin, and several slices of sourdough bread. Freeloadin'!

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 7 April 2005 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

My office doesn't spring for snacks of any kind — or COFFEE. We don't even have a break room. I've long suspected, and been led to believe, this is crazy nuts. Watchoo think?

sugarpants: kind of blurry, kind of double (sugarpants), Thursday, 7 April 2005 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

PS: If we want coffee, we have to buy it and bring it in ourselves.

sugarpants: kind of blurry, kind of double (sugarpants), Thursday, 7 April 2005 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

We don't have a break room as such, but we've got a smoking room (which only the smokers use, because it smells foul) and two kitchens.

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 7 April 2005 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh. We had to get rid of our smoking room when a city-wide ban went into effect last year. I quit smoking shortly thereafter, but I;m sure it sucks for the regulars. You can't even smoke outside the door — you have be 50 FEET from the entrances.

We do have a cafeteria, though. You can get a pretty good grilled cheese there, but then again, who makes shitty grilled cheese?

sugarpants: kind of blurry, kind of double (sugarpants), Thursday, 7 April 2005 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

There's all kinds of cake today. (Yesterday was Dutch Cookie day.) Wonder if this is in aid of all the birthdays this weekend?

(I am trying to hold off on getting my first free coffee of the day.)

Adherents of the Repeated Kate (kate), Friday, 8 April 2005 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I just got sick of waiting and finally cut the cake myself.

That sounds dirty, doesn't it?

MMmmmm, cappucino cake!

Adherents of the Repeated Kate (kate), Friday, 8 April 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

"Come on! There's cake over here!"
"yeah, yeah I'll get some"
"Come on! Cake!"
"jesus H. Christ"

... Free cake is good, but people interrupt important ILX work to tell me about cake, which always turns out to be some nasty awful carrot-applesauce cake with raisin grosting. (Meant to type frosting, but that typo was to good to fix.)

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 8 April 2005 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh! Free donuts. Later, suckas.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 8 April 2005 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

we had free eclairs and danish pastries yesterday.

Ed (dali), Friday, 8 April 2005 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

we've got apple crumble with custard and lemon polenta cake. ok, so stacey and i bought it ourselves but it's so good i feel like gloating.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Would it be greedy to have another slice of capuccino cake? No one else seems to be eating it.

Adherents of the Repeated Kate (kate), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

we had two on thrusday - chocolate mud, and orange & poppyseed.

haitch (haitch), Friday, 8 April 2005 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I had free Italian nachos today!

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 8 April 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Eat it, Kate! It is a very sad site when a coworker approaches the free stuff table and throws out half a chocolate cake because no one ate it fast enough.
COWORKER (tossing cake in bin): "Oh, it's been 2 hours now, we should just throw this out.."
ME (to myself in my head): "GOD, NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!"

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

There is too much free food here. Twice this week there has been cheesecake mere feet away from me. Yesterday there were bagels and donuts. It's even worse upstairs where the bakery and deli department is. They like bring in new products and have everyone test them. I WILL GET SO FAT IF I KEEP THIS JOB.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Another fun thing besides free food in the break room is when coworkers have goodies at their desks to share. It's like... hmmm... should I go get some chocolate covered raisins in the boss's office or some trail mix from this woman or... (I buy something every once in a while to add to thier stashes.)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

It can get kind of awkward though when you go into your coworker's office to grab some of said free candy thinking they are away, only to find them sitting at their desk.

"Oh, hi! What do you need, Sarah?"
Um, I just wanted some candy, so...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

My office mate always has a little army of hershey's kisses scattered out on our community table, and I hate how they are always there, waiting for me to grab at 'em. See, I can't control myself and just have one every once in a while - I MUST HAVE SEVERAL HUNDRED.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Mandarin cheesecake, lemon meringue pie and mini eclairs, leftover from catering at an anatomy course being held today, sitting three feet away from me and there's no-one else in my office today. I will lunch on free cake.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 18 April 2005 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Coworker's 50th bday yesterday = free leftover chocolate cake in my mouf today

kingfish, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 22:12 (eighteen years ago)

Am I the only one alive who does not like cake?

I don't like cake.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

That's some old ass-cake.

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

and whats the deal with hot pockets?

chaki, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 00:07 (eighteen years ago)

Pet hate: cake pushers. Have none of my workmates figured out by now, after 2 years, that I dont have much of a sweet tooth? "Have some cake! Why don't you want any? Oh gwan, have a bit"

SHUT UP SHUT UP.

Trayce, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 00:25 (eighteen years ago)

Our break room has an espresso machine, and mini chocs to raise money for MS research. I wish it had savoury snax :(

Trayce, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 00:29 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know if there's anything I like less than shitty grocery store cake with coworkers. I've gotten better over the years at politely refusing it. I used to say things like, "I don't like sweets," or something to that effect, or make an excuse about blood sugar, but at this point my coworkers have seen me eat too many M&M's for that to hold water. So I just grin like the happiest little boy in the world and say, "No thanks, I had too much lunch!" That works well enough.

JuliaA, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 02:50 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, this is Kenan, btw, not juliaA

JuliaA, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 02:50 (eighteen years ago)

Good sweets are divine, but truth is, they DO mess with my blood sugar, so I better make sure they're worth it. I cannot deal with flovorless sugar-delivery vehicles.

JuliaA, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 02:52 (eighteen years ago)

three years pass...

Free cake for donating blood today!
