So, the weather's miserable, the trains were on Sunday service and I'm stuck in an office with a grand total of two people in (including me).
Anyone else stuck at work today?

Greig (treefell), Monday, 28 March 2005 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

You're lucky - I'm supposed to be travelling to London, and by the look of it the train service is fucked.

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 28 March 2005 08:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris is in work today, but can't really look at ilx at work. He was in on friday too.

I am having to do work at home due to an imminent deadline, going away on holiday and not getting my finger out and getting the work done in work time, so I don't deserve any sympathy.

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 28 March 2005 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i went to work yesterday, but only to check the emails and stuff (it was mainly to collect my phone charger, but then there were people in the office so i thought i'd sit down for like half and hour and pretend to do work)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 28 March 2005 09:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey man!

I am stuck MAKING MYSELF REVISE on Easter Monday, at least you're getting paid...

You could try and solve this awesome text-based spy game, if you're familiar with Zork and stuff? http://www.eblong.com/zarf/zplet/tangle.html

Or, as they're also known, Americans.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 28 March 2005 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha ha ha. I'm about fifteen minutes away from going off to work. I'm also in the midst of a heavy springtime allergy attack. Ooh, fun. And I've got heartburn from what I ate on Easter. But thankfully if I burp anything it doesn't smell like possibly carcinogenic rib anymore. *yawn*

I really should get a move on.

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 28 March 2005 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 28 March 2005 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Easter Monday isn't celebrated in the US. I'm guessing just about all the Yankees are stuck at work today. Just any other day. I, on the other hand, have a lighter workload because I translate primarily for Dutch clients who have the day off.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Monday, 28 March 2005 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

forgive this infidel's ignorance, but what's holy about Easter Monday?

teeny (teeny), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Monday

is it just the holiness of sunday kinda spills over?

teeny (teeny), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

is it the first day you're allowed to have whatever you swore off for lent?

teeny (teeny), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Working today, worked yesterday. There is no holy spirit in my job, lord!

stephen morris (stephen morris), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not officially a holiday in Scotland, but the banks are all shut, there's no post, the shops have Sunday opening hours...it might as well be a holiday as everyone takes it anyway.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

(I am stuck at home, working, as I have no life and I'm supposed to be at a party)

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

is it the first day you're allowed to have whatever you swore off for lent?

OK - here's something I just learned this year .. and it seems like bullshit to me, but then, go and argue with the Catholics ..

Sundays apparently don't count in Lent. So if you gave up chocolate or blasphemy, you're still allowed to partake on Sundays... WTF? How hard is it to give something up for six days? God, what a stupid religion.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Word. Weather sucks, here I am, what can I do. Should at least be a quiet day after I finish up my work.

Canadians be workin' today too.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Canadians also be hungover and unwilling to do much of anything that resembles work.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been here since 9:30 and I've taken 1 call and also I'm stuck hear till 6pm! AAARGGGHHH!!!

-- dog latin (doglati...), March 28th, 2005. (dog latin)

dog, do you work at a call center like me? we were completely dead on friday and they wouldn't let anyone go home early. i predict the same thing today, and i don't even have internet to keep me occupied there. in fact, i get yelled at for reading books. :-/

tehresa (tehresa), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I never realized that Easter Monday was such a "thing". I'm here, in America, working, listening to everyone congregate around THE ONE CUBICLE and shooting Le Shit, which is UNGH.

I hate Canada right now.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

What'd i do?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

tehresa - yeh, a call centre. That sucks. We're not supposed to do anything but fuck it it's dead here.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i HATE my call center job.
we are not just not "supposed" to do anything, we can't. all websites other than mapquest are blocked on our computers. i think i should bring in classified ads and look at the job listings every time my manager walks by...

tehresa (tehresa), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Here on the Red Line last Friday afternoon we had a rather gregarious conductor who while trying to encourage passengers to not crowd the doors made a comment about "Easter Monday" which led to a bunch of chuckling from my fellow sardines. I can't say "Easter Monday" seems like such a great idea for a holiday to me considering the typical weather but then if you live in London or some such maybe it's all the same.

TOMBOT, Monday, 28 March 2005 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not so much a traditional holiday as a Bank Holiday of which there are six a year (Cf: Blur), and one happens to land on that Monday.

The weather is lovely outside :-(

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The weather is beautiful here too, but I also have not heard of "Easter Monday" until now and I'm at work in an office with no windows.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Man... even the panhandlers have taken today off.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Easter kept me from getting paid on Friday - I won't get my paycheck until TOMORROW! FOUR DAYS! Fuck a resurrection; pay me!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, but how is that Canada's fault?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Quebec basically gets Easter Monday off. For some bizarre reason I think only London and HK markets are closed.

And now that you mentioned, I didn't see one panhandler down Spadina this morning. Bizarro.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I know! None on Queen or King. Weird, eh?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

This is -- honestly! -- the first I have ever heard about anyone getting the Monday after Easter off. Never would have even considered this to be a possible day off.

I wish it was, though. It's beautiful outside today!

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Front was clear, even the couple at Lakeshore/Queens Quay wasn't around.

Did I miss the yard sale on smack or is their Easter fix for free?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

What do I do once I've got the wrench?!!
How do I get at the ceiling panel?

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Huh? I think it's because Easter falls on a weekend so they have to pay/give an extra day. Not for me though, I have to work. :-((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( (Which means playing Zookeeper on the Nintendo when customers aren't in the shop. I have 1150000 now. YEEHAAAAAA -> i should check the health issues for too much nintendo gameplaying)

nathalie doing a soft foot shuffle (stevie nixed), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not blaming Canada. I'm just hating Canada. No reason, really.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Well fine then. But if you want a reason you could blame it on the 10 year anniversary of the "Turbot War"!

Good olde Cap'n Highliner, premier of Newfieland.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't remember! I'll give it a play when I get out the library and see if I can think of a good hint. It is *bitchingly* hard, I'm stuck like three puzzles on from you :(

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

As religious as this country is, you'd think they'd celebrate Easter Monday in the States.

What we want? Sex with T.V. stars! What you want? Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Ma, Monday, 28 March 2005 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a Catholic (and by extension Anglican) thing.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 28 March 2005 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I so would love to pistol whip the person two cubicles away that's been having an asthma attack from laughing at what-the-fuck ever for the past 20 minutes.

Give it up for that Easter spirit!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 28 March 2005 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember getting Good Friday and Easter Monday off when I went to Catholic school. Glorious four-day weekendage marked, it seems always in grade school, by a Holy Thursday screening of some religious movie or another. Usually either King of Kings or Quo Vadis or that movie about Barabbas. Curiously enough, even though It's A Wonderful Life was never a part of my personal familial Christmas tradition, The Ten Commandments was TOTALLY a part of my Easter tradition and we (Mom, Dad, and I) would ALWAYS watch it on Easter Sunday, after all the eating and talking ended. Anyway, so I used to get today off. But this was awhile back and, well, yeah.
