Neat please - no lime, no salt. Herradura or Chinaco (Anejo, naturally) for preference.

In a margarita, some Cuervo is fine.

"it is the devil's pee"

Do you mean that in a good way or a bad way?

Austin S (Austin, Still), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

bad!! honestly i get within 20 feet of the stuff and my life starts going disastrously wrong

jones (actual), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 01:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never drunk any, because the smell alone is enough to make me horp.

"pulque" is spanish for "the infidelity gremlin" i think

jones (actual), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually Pulque is undistilled (yet fermented) agave beverage. But you probably knew that.

Austin S (Austin, Still), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

why "anejo, naturally"? I prefer reposado. Perfect balance between the woodiness of anejo and the pure cactusosity of blanco.

No one, that's HOOS.

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 10 January 2008 00:19 (eighteen years ago)

No, really, I do. Also Centenario is a perfectly acceptable substitute for either brand I mentioned above. Well, several are, actually. Cazadores for another.

Oilyrags, Thursday, 10 January 2008 13:32 (eighteen years ago)

I do. None of that mixto crap, though. Cazadores is good (esp. their anejo), Tres Generaciones...there really are a lot of really, really good ones.

Cuervo and Zapata and the like have given tequila a bad name for far too long.

B.L.A.M., Thursday, 10 January 2008 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

Just came back from Mexico with a bottle of Cazadores Reposado. Me and my travel mates put away a bottle of the blanco in five days, just sipping it neat. It's so cheap in Mexico, too.

mizzell, Thursday, 10 January 2008 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

Tres Generaciones! I like that stuff.

good tequila was made for sipping. it should be enjoyed liek a fine brandy. i've been seeing a lot of overly aged tequilas lately: aged like 10+ years in french oak. they are quite pricey and the ones i've tasted seem to be over doing it a bit but a nice anejo is just right.

A few months ago, a friend of mine and I put away a bottle of the same in about five HOURS. So, like any other liquor, OVERindulgence is a BAD thing.

But sipping on a good tequila after any meal is a wonderful, wonderful thing.

Christ. It's 8:45 in the morning, and I want some tequila.

Especially when you just made carne asada over a campfire.

This is supposed to be a problem? Oh I see. The problem is you don't HAVE tequila!

are tequila sunrises any good? the idea of tequila and orange juice sort of disgusts me. I want to drink a tequila cocktail that isn't a margarita, so any recommendations welcome.

tequila and grapefruit is pretty good. my friend and i dubbed it "the drink of the Irish" a long time ago on account of the fact that we thought there might not be grapefruits in Ireland and they might enjoy...
i'm not into orange juice w/spirits myself

I quite like a few fingers of tequila with a drop of simple syrup and the juice of one lime, all on the rocks.

Sometimes my kitchen garbage is a pile of inside-out dead lime skins in the morning.

that sounds pretty good, and that's a useful list. although now i'm thinking of just buying some limes and going down the shots route.

Aerosol, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 15:13 (sixteen years ago)

oh man, yeah. so many gd limes.

i have not personally fucked w/it but i think tequila/white grapefruit would be an excellent combination. also, if you're not sure about reg. orange, consider blood orange, which is a little more bitter.

this is from a blog i like, it sounds great:

1 1/2 oz Lunazul Tequila
1/2 oz Grapefruit Juice
1/4 oz St. Germain

Shake with ice and strain into a salt-rimmed water goblet filled with fresh ice. Top with Narragansett beer (~2 oz), garnish with a lime wedge, and add a straw.

was talking tequila with a work friend yesterday that pointed out that patron isn't the same as it used to be, and neither is sauza (both have sold out and former owners have started new companies); but there is incredible tequila to be found at various price points. been drinking Tapatio Reposado recently and for $35 i LOVE it. have had La Fortaleza a couple times at the local tequila joint and it's twice as expensive but SO damn smooth, there's no burning at all, but just a warmth. conversation began 'cuz i noticed a recipe i wanted to try calling for 2oz Tapatio Reposado: 3/4 lemon, juiced: 1/2 oz grapefruit syrup: 2oz. absinthe...
in a nutshell: tequila RULES
