Kellog's! That's right. Say it loud, say it proud. Homestyle, bitches. And with Aunt Jemima orignal syrup only! (FUCK YOU, Mrs. Butterworth!) I don't care if they cause testicular sars and bowel leprosy and are filled with baby spider eggs and are manufactured in Al Qaeda-funded madrasas. They're great!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

They need more bacon.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, Alex, chill. Have a waffle or 10. And lots and lots of butter. (mmmmm melty butter & syrup on waffles)

I only love the nutri-grain ones, but those are far more fantastic than they have a right to be.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Let them eat Eggo.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I spelled Kellogg's wrong, which is most disrespectful of me. Apologies.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm taking back the drink I bought you this weekend. Er, wait.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

do they still have the "leggo my eggo" commercials which were annoying on an almost "trix are for kids" level. it's just a goddamn waffle who cares!

ryan (ryan), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I eat store-brand waffles for breakfast almost every weekday morning. With peanut butter and syrup. I tried the health-food store brand with flax seeds and good-for-me stuff in them, but they didn't get toasty the way waffles are supposed to get.

I love waffles. DINER WAFFLES. Oooooh.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

little does Alex realize that we've switched his sugar this morning with another white powder...

Peanut butter and syrup?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

And with Aunt Jemima orignal syrup only! (FUCK YOU, Mrs. Butterworth!)
Try them with real maple syrup... mmmmm.

xpost Peanut butter and syrup? Ya! It's the fucking BEST!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy shit - I have to go home right now and eat me some waffles!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

This may be inappropriate for this thread, but we got a new pimped-out waffle maker at home and have been making sour cream waffles on weekend mornings, topped with sour cream.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

eggos w/ loads of butter, ham steak and maple syrup.

jesus h christ I'm hungry.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't give Aunt Jemima the back of my hand. Mrs. Butterworth is my sweetie honey baby darlin'.

Waffles are only classic when they're served hot enough to melt the butter that's put on them. Cool waffles with solid clumps of butter = DUD.

Curious George Finds the Ether Bottle (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the big secret behind making real waffles? We have a waffle maker and tried making some a while back and it was a HUGE disaster. It's old, so there's no timer on it and the light doesn't work. So, we just waited a while and opened it and - TA DA! - the top was stuck to the top, the bottom to the bottom, and there was no middle.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you grease the wafflemaker before pouring in the batter?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

DAN TO THREAD

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

(cuz there's a total joke in that grease/batter talk and I can't think one up)

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, don't all lets go "Little House on the Prarie" on this thread. I'm not talkin'bout no Wafflemaker waffles (which are fine....if you live in Belgium). I'm talkin'bout fresh from yer grocer's freezer, blindingly yellow boxes of frozen insanity that devastate your tastebuds after only mere nanoseconds in any competent toaster.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know, this waffle maker makes it easy. It has a "waffle tone" that sounds when they're done and it takes like 30 seconds.

With my old cheap one, I'd just have to tie my wrists to the chair and wait much longer than I thought to open it, in order to avoid just such a disaster (ha I typed "distaster" at first, which works too). Also greasing top and bottom is U&K.

xpost!

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

That's why I was hesistant to bring up r3@l w@ffl3s on your thread, sorry Alex.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, if you don't grease up the bottom you're gonna get shit sticking everywhere.

I always thought Eggos were kind of gay for being round. I don't know why it bothered me, but I've never gotten past it.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Waffles? I came here for the Roffles. I guess I was misinformed.

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

EGO ROFFLE

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh I dig, you're on an Eggo trip!

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I can see Alex and his daughter having waffle eating contests, then both getting bored and throwing their sippy cups on the floor.

Curious George Finds the Ether Bottle (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the "buttermilk" ones even though they taste exactly the same as normal, i think it's just superstition on my part. i eat mine with camp maple syrup and big solid COLD pats of butter.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I spelled Kellogg's wrong, which is most disrespectful of me. Apologies.

I learned to spell it as "K-E-double L, Oh-Double Good!"

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Every weekday, I eat two Eggos with margarine and orange marmalade with a coffee for breakfast. I have started my workdays this way for the last 4 years or so.
....and I like Killing Joke!

peepee (peepee), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

"fresh from yer grocer's freezer"

That's some mind-melting Madison Ave koan shit. I'm gonna meditate on it (and Alex's jingoistic waffle bias) for a few days.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"I'm not talkin 'bout no authentic Chop Suey (which is fine....if you live in China). I'm talking about American Chop Suey fresh from yer college cafeteria's serving line, blindingly substandard mixtures of Hunts' tomato sauce, elbow macaroni, meat, cheese, and some fucked-up mixture of spices that'll devestate your intestine and your rectum after only THINKING ABOUT putting this slop in your mouth."

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

do they still have the "leggo my eggo" commercials which were annoying on an almost "trix are for kids" level.

I was actually just thinking recently about products that no longer have huge advertising campaigns behind them like they once did but have stuck around, anyway -- and seeing a box of Eggo waffles is what prompted it.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Or maybe it was seeing Eggo syrup -- I never even knew that existed. But I usually shop in la-di-da grocery stores, so it's possible I just missed it.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I had a la-di-da grocer near me. All my nearby supermarkets are git-r-done or eat-my-fuc.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, I'm just talking about Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

"just talking about"!!!

Granted, my git-r-done Price Chopper has spots of la-di-da scattered throughout the buy-in-bulk, but I want full-on pretentious unfiltered la-di-da. (Meaning I want dried MANGO, not dried PAPAYA!)

yul brynner von oy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Eggos are great. Fuck 'real' waffles.

latebloomer: AKA Sir Teddy Ruxpin, Former Scientologist (latebloomer), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce, i literally just had some minutes ago. I've you've never tasted them (properly, i.e. with Jemima's celestial goodness), they'll blow a hole of divine flavor in the back of your head. Chew with caution.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I had four nutri-grains this morning. We were out of surp unfortunatly, but they're tasty with just margarine.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

surp. Hahahaha

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex, "properly" would be with REAL syrup. You've been doing it wrong!
I don't understand how you can love eggos so much yet totally skimp out on the syrup.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno - using REAL syrup on Eggo waffles is like using steak sauce on a McDonald's burger, isn't it?

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Touché!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex, "properly" would be with REAL syrup. You've been doing it wrong!

Like I said before, this ain't about no wholesome kitchen goodness. Move in with the fuckin' Waltons if that's what you're after. I'm talking about entirely prefabricated, manufactured, neon-colored, chemically treated sugar products designed to simulate an impossible taste that couldn't exist anywhere in nature. Have fun with the Amish, I'm sticking with the fake stuff.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, try coconut milk. It'll change your life (and possibly double your risk of heart disease).

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Heart disease certainly would change my life.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

It's wrong to see syrup as a continuum with Butterworth/Jemima on one end and Grade A Light maple syrup on the other. Maple syrup is just an entirely different thing, and believe me, Camp maple syrup is hardly some pinnacle of wholesome wonderfulness, it's the cheap and nasty shit that Vermonters would skin you for buying. But I LUVVIT. Frankly I like dark or medium amber syrup way more than the fancier, more expensive, thin and light stuff.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Tracer, have you tried good sorghum molasses? PHWOAR.

Curious George Finds the Ether Bottle (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah but I think I would find it a little OVERPOWERING on little ol Eggo waffles. Cornbread, on the other hand.. In any case, I like Aunt Jemima - even if now she got a perm - but I'm curious about why Alex doesn't like Mrs. Butterworth (it IS "Mrs." right? She's not single any more is she? Even though she's in everybody's house, spilling herself all over everything), because I have some great memories of pancakes with WARMED-UP Mrs. Butterworth ladled all over.. gglllaghh

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

DUDES HAVE ANY OF U HAD WHAT IS CALLED WHAT IS CALLED 'MAPLE BUTTER'. OMG. 2 DIE 4.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

HA!

Anyways, I had the best ever waffles pretty recently, all light and fluffy with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. mmm...

My real waffles failed because we used PAM spray \and hardly had any left to use anyway.

I like the healthy-ish brand of frozen waffles. Not too shabby.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I bought some blueberry eggos last night! I was totally in the corner store going 'damn you alex in nyc!'

Coconut milk sounds great. I wonder if they make coconut butter, I mean, like butter with some coconut solids in it. I bet I could make some.

MAPLE BUTTER

Yes, but it does not hold a candle to proper butter and maple syrup combinations. Now for cooking it might have its uses.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Geezz, then I guess you're gonna hate me for saying I hate those things. If I told you I had organic cereal with organic milk, you'd think I hate those because they've got all that crap in them, but that's not the reason. I do love a load of high fructous corn syrup every now and then. (Well, more like every day). I just have this wierd dislike for walffles and pancakes, especially pancakes!!! I can get through two walffles as long as they are smothered in butter and syrup, but only one, if even that much, pancake covered with the same.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 23 September 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

When I was in high school, I had the same breakfast every weekday morning, which consisted of:

2 Eggo waffles
Cheez Whiz (in between)
Corn Syrup on top

You might think I'm crazy, but OH MAN that is good stuff. It's a taste sensation!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 23 September 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

Occasionally, I would sub in REAL maple syrup, but I think it's better with the corn syrup.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 23 September 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

I'm probably the only idiot that puts maple syrup in her yoghurt.

Today, being Saturday, we made Belgian waffles - THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

The question would of course be: WHICH belgian waffles. The 2 most well-known ones are Brussels and Liege waffles. :-)
