Humour me.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

And google for the damn images yrselves. There used to be this local pub in the '80's that had a kind of extreme makeover, and part of it was having framed Nagel prints put up all over the walls. I was thinking abt this, and about how the entire context of the makeover wd have been changed (duh...) if they'd been ToF prints instead. Even if they'd been, like, the less rude ones.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Plus, for some reason, I associate both artists w/a certain time & place, which is kind of a long time ago now :(

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Tom of Finland!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Pox on both their houses. Nagel's airbrushed perfection probably annoys me more but TofF reminds me of the place where I used to get my hair cut, full of bitchy old leather boys and bears.

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I like to think of myself as being very accepting and open-minded but I don't know if I could get my hair cut someplace that reminded me of a TofF picture, largely because of all of the dick-sucking.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha did you go to Male Image, Michael?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't realize until JUST now how opposed to dick-sucking, Dan is?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, when I'm getting a haircut I'd like for my barber to cut my hair! Everything in its right place.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha the idea that you can't get your hair cut and your dick sucked at the same time is baffling me. Dicksucking is like maple syrup. It goes good with everything!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

"Stop squirming or I'm going to leave a big gap!"
"Which one of you said that?"

Curious George Finds the Ether Bottle (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha did you go to Male Image, Michael?

I think that's what it's called, Alex. On Market at 15th. I used to live about half a block away and being lazy, sometimes went there.

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha I still go there. I love that place.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

There was some story about the little Finnish fishing village (where Tom was born) chipping in to buy one of his drawings, he being the most famous son. The keep it in the town hall, but keep it covered up.

andy --, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha I still go there. I love that place.

For the haircuts or the dick sucking?

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha it's all a blur (seriously though those guys are pretty friendly and they do a good job.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you live near there, Alex?

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

About 10 blocks away, I guess.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

(I am tempted to buy Photoshop, put Ice Cube into a TofF picture and title it "Barbershop 3".)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I like to think of myself as being very accepting and open-minded but I don't know if I could get my hair cut someplace that reminded me of a TofF picture, largely because of all of the dick-sucking.

Actually to my mind ToF is less about d*ck-s*cking or sex in general, and more about treating every part of the body like it was a sex organ and then showing them all off in the most shamelessly exhibitionist way possible.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, I've had my hair cut at Male Image too- it's right by the leather store- you can emerge with a total ToF clone look for pennies . . . except that you have to work out like crazy to fill that stuff out right.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it's definitely not a look just anyone can pull off.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

If they could send a man to the moon, etc. then surely modern science can develop something that'll give any man bosomy pecs and monster glutes with only the minimum of effort yet without the whole acne and ball-shrinkage thing.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh believe me they are working on it.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, when the perfect that, please tell me.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

They fecking well better. I haven't been on a hot date in months.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

There are silicone pec and calf muscle implants to just rock the look without the effort . . . .

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Sigh. It just wouldn't be the same.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

You are all collectively the brave new world.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the point if I can't bend metal ingots with my bare hands/thighs?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Especially thighs.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the point if I can't bend metal ingots with my thoughts?

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, where are the implants to give me a bulging medulla oblongata?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

This is rapidly turning into a fusion of the Observer sketches and the calf-implant bit from MST3K.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, since your not going to get your hair cut and you're not wearing any leather chaps (I assume), just what are you doing here?

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

nagel, for how he handled color.

xxxxpost

kephm, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

kephm, you rock.

TOM OF FINLAND - HE STANDS 13 INCHES TALL DRESSED IN LEATHER
Meet Tom of Finland's 001 Rebel, the first fully functional adult action figure. And once you've seen this particular figure, you will never EVER forget him. The figure is based on the incredible licensed work of the artistic genius, Tom of Finland, whose muscle bound men became a staple in the erotic art world in the 1950s and 1960s and whose creations have been hung in such places as the Whitney Museum in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Finnish Institute in Paris. This figure has 19 moveable joints, including interchangeable and flexible special equipment. He stands leering from his own chrome metallic base and is covered by a suggestive missile-shaped transparent cover. Coming with him in the metallic base are such items as a Certificate of Authenticity, individualized dog tags, a brief biography and catalog of Tom of Finland's extensive body of work, among other goodies. The figure will debut in a limited serially numbered release. The 001 Rebel figure was created by the renowned toy sculptor, Norman Franklin Lloyd, who has worked on a variety of products and companies, including Toy Biz's LOTR figures, Playmates Star Trek action figures, and McFarlane Toys' HR Giger and Metal Gear Solid figures. WARNING: THIS DOLL IS ANATOMICALLY CORRECT: NOT INTENDED FOR CHILDREN

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Is his most important "joint" moveable is the question?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, since your not going to get your hair cut and you're not wearing any leather chaps (I assume), just what are you doing here?

Dude, both Nagel and ToF rock, so there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

It's too bad I'm too old to fully appreciate this, 'cause as a kid, I thought Barbie and Ken and GI Joe were horribly mutilated freaks. Oh how I would have loved a Barbie with a 'GI Joe grip', some bush and nipples!

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"hung in such places"

Curious George Finds the Ether Bottle (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks d
when i was playing vice city i felt as if i was lost in a nagel print. tof is cool too, reminds me of the hernandez brothers/love and rockets

kephm, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

flexible special equipment

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

"extensive body"

Curious George Finds the Ether Bottle (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

They are both classic, but only one of them did a Duran Duran album cover, therefore Nagel wins.

Nemo (JND), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Though if ToF had done a Duran Duran album cover, it may have been easier to figure out what "Union of the Snake" was all about.

Nemo (JND), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, yes I thought of Nagel when I was playing Vice City as well. A lot of the female pedestrians had Nagel-ish faces, I thought. Vice City wasn't quite Nagelish enough, and actually it wasn't quite Tom of Finlandish enough either, was it?

If I had a choice of looking at a book of Nagel prints or a book of ToF repros whilst getting my hair cut, I guess Tom of Finland wins, plus I guess you could get your ahemcougherhrrrm(whistles) by a musclebound stevedore or truck driver at the same time. Nagels world does not offer such pleasures, does it now, eh? Ahem, cough.
