"You first!" "No... YOU first!"

I just saw one of those lame, petty street battles. This was between a bike messenger and a dude in a Lexus. They were both INSISTING the other go first, and both were holding their ground. It lasted like a minute and half, the grunger messenger angrily waving the car to pass, the car furiously waving the bike messenger... I wanted to shoot both, execution-style.

Chip & Dale did it out of politeness, but these street quarrels (often between pedestrians and cars) are the LOWEST, PETTIEST interactions in all of mankind. Just fucking GO! and forget the other dude, don't try to make some point.

i saw one on the train this morning that was more "you take the seat" " no you take the seat" "i insist" "no, really..you take it" etc etc

i got the feeling the guy who lost and took the seat didn't really want it.

Do you know what really REALLY annoys me? When it's really quite quiet and there's not many cars about but as you go to cross you notice one solitary car coming towards you so you decide to let it pass before crossing. And you wait a bit, thinking that maybe you should have crossed anyway because this guy is slow. As he comes towards you you notice he is getting slower and slower until he stops AND WAVES YOU ON! Fuck's sake! What a waste of time!

did you ever see that clip of Bush and Blair entering that building? Blair kept holding back ushering Bush through but Bush was trying to do the same thing. went on for some time until one of the aides had the presence of mind to open the other half of the double doors so they could go through together. the first person through the door is obviously a pussy according to some rule somewhere.

(the dog is on the money btw. especially bad at zebra crossings... although not as bad as the cockfarmers that wave you across their half of a dual carriageway when you can see the other lane is full of traffic going at normal, bone-crunching speed)

I get round thi pitfall of modern life by being a selfish git and ALWAYS taking the seat, ALWAYS having the last biscuit and ALWAYS darting across the road to the chagrin of motorists. It may lower my karma somewhat, but I don't end up in those awful situations where you're both fighting for the moral high ground.

The problem is for dog latin's case is that if there's a cop lurking the car will get a ticket for not stopping, and saying "but he waved me on!" won't help.

cars aren't, really, supposed to stop for pedestrians, that much, I think.

About a month ago I was stopped at an intersection waiting to cross, two cyclists pull up at the stoplight, suddenly, the male biker starts screaming at the car beside him "You so and so you ran over my foot!" he then proceeds to swear at the driver the driver swears back etc. I look down at his foot: he is wearing Birkenstock sandals. It was February. So... he kind of deserved it for being a hippy. But, yeah, both cyclist and driver were too wussy to actually fight.

Reminds me of the old lady argument (like in father ted) of whose going to pay for the tea and scones. "put you're money away, I'll pay". "NO, YOU put YOUR money away, I'LL pay."
