j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:39 (nineteen years ago) link

kind of a lost art, that.

ryan (ryan), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:40 (nineteen years ago) link

seriously if you were to try to make a new match game, put her in brett somers seat and scott thompson in charles nelson reilly's and you might stand a chance.

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:42 (nineteen years ago) link

god, she was on conan this one time and started taping up her face... i started hyperventilating, it was so fucking funny,

This cover has been haunting my bathroom for weeks now. In all the shots in the magazine, she's wearing the ends of lemons on her nipples. Even if you know that, it's freakin' HYPNOTIZING.

i hear her cupcakes are good.

jody the country girl doll (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 14 April 2005 16:18 (nineteen years ago) link

apparently, sarah jessica parker and matthew broderick make cameos in the film.

this does not bode well.

She provides the voice of PAULIE THE PENIS in whatever the hell THIS movie is. I LOVE her...and now need to find a copy of that magazine hubba hubba.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 14 April 2005 16:27 (nineteen years ago) link

she's good friends with sj parker & hubbie matt.

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 14 April 2005 16:29 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, I think they and Letterman are basically responsible for the movie getting made. So I give them some cred.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 April 2005 16:30 (nineteen years ago) link

i bet her neck and face are prematurely and permanently wrinkled from doing the jerri blank face. that's dedication.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 14 April 2005 16:50 (nineteen years ago) link

does strangers with candy get better the more you watch? i saw the debut episode & thought i remembered it being funnier than that.

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 14 April 2005 17:00 (nineteen years ago) link

the debut isn't the best episode, it gets better as you get further into season 1. the violin-playing episode is great.

i rented the strangers with candy dvd and there is an extras disc with a group interview of the whole cast that had me crushing on her, she's all nervous and giggly.

Amon (eman), Thursday, 14 April 2005 17:04 (nineteen years ago) link

someone once posted on here that she is really mean

charleston charge (chaki), Thursday, 14 April 2005 17:19 (nineteen years ago) link

I forget where I read the article that big-upped Sedaris and Amy Poehler for being attractive women who are willing to make themselves ugly for the sake of comedy, but it's true.

I think my fave SWC episode is the one where her (already dead) dad dies.

Also: "Quandary..."

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 April 2005 17:21 (nineteen years ago) link

Apparently she is for the most part creeped out by her fans, but I love her anyway.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 14 April 2005 17:31 (nineteen years ago) link

someone once posted on here that she is really mean

it was speculated on this thread... Strangers With Candy (the TV show)
...but that bananas anecdote hardly classifies as anything approaching meanness.

Amon (eman), Thursday, 14 April 2005 17:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Ha ha I started that thread too oh no.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 April 2005 17:41 (nineteen years ago) link

i heard the movie was not so great, but i will see it anyway. i think it is mostly a rehashing of the first episode with lots of celebrities and an extended plot line.

have you read wigfield? amy, steven colbert, and paul dinello wrote it and it is hilarious!

tehresa (tehresa), Friday, 15 April 2005 03:21 (nineteen years ago) link

David Sedaris is fucking cool too, I wanna be in that family.

Nellie (nellskies), Friday, 15 April 2005 04:56 (nineteen years ago) link

i love that i used to read david sedaris, and he was always talking about his crazy sister and i would think about how funny that family was. then i looked into amy sedaris more and realized she was his sister and then his stories were even funnier!

I watch season 2 disc 2 just about every night before bed for the hilarious cult episode. Most people I know don't get the show's humor but no other show has ever made me laugh so loud as Strangers With Candy.

Who's purchased "I Like You : hospitality under the influence"? I adore it. I made "Chicken of the Tavern" last night for dinner. It was delicious, which may be because I used an entire stick of butter, as per the recipe.

I was thinking about it just because its amy but im not very hospitable by nature. does she show how to knit rabbits or anything like that?

movie was not that great but it had laffs. colbert is great. jerri's prison-lust after the scrubbed redhead girl was totally nauseating and hilarious.

I love the fact that it's a totally legit cookbook, who makes no bones about "health" (i.e. lots of butter). Completely delicious. Also, her hospitality tips are really useful and hilarious (marbles in the medicine cabinet to point out nosy guests).

Has anyone made anything else out of the cookbook? Is the Spanakopita recipe up to snuff? The Chicken of the Taverns is giving me a serious food coma.

There's a picture of a cake (the ghost cake with flaming eyes) that's from a Betty Crocker children's cookbook that I've had for 20+ years. When AS was at Fred Flare last month peddling her wares, I was going to confront her about that, but the room she was in was sooooo crowded.

  • She really wanted some Vicodin one Christmas Eve. Upon walking out of her apartment on a search for it, she ran into a woman on crutches--who took her up to her apartment and gave her Vicodin. Amy calls it the "Miracle on Christopher Street."
  • She taught Martha Stewart how to make a grilled cheese sandwich in prison by using an iron... in 2001. She also gave Martha a squirrel-shaped wooden bong which she carved herself, and told her it was packed.
  • She had a long-time imaginary boyfriend named Ricky... Who worked as a grip in Argentina, brought her back saffron, lost all of his tools in a camper fire and suffered a stroke. She and Ricky had a baby, Hercules, the around same time that David Letterman's son was born. Amy said they had been "trying for hours."

my dad gave me the cd version of i like you for christmas and i was thinking of returning it for the book and then jon gave me the book (thanks!). i think i will still return the cd though cause i have a few of the mp3s and while it's great that it's amy reading, i don't know how much i'd actually listen to it.

haven't had a chance to do any recipes yet but now that i'm reminded of it, maybe i will soon!

Yeah, I think I've caught her at least twice since my June post. That last one she said something about how some of the recipes in her book are screwed up because she didn't double check them! Oh well. Still impossibly cute.
