http://www.nolongerlonely.com/about.php
Membership is reserved solely for those with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, personality disorder, post-traumatic disorder, or disassociative disorder, or eating disorder. If you ARE unsure if you qualify please contact the webmaster. I strongly encourage anyone considering membership to first consult with their psychiatrist and/or social worker. As someone with schizoaffective disorder I know that first dates can be quite stressful. For those with mental illness the problem is compounded by fear of disclosure and stigma. As every member of nolongerlonely.com has a mental illness, it is hoped that removing these barriers will improve the social lives of its members. No Longer Lonely is the ultimate icebreaker: -Never have to worry again about disclosure of your condition -No need to hide those pill bottles-Never again have to explain your erratic work experience -No more stigma-induced disappointments-Finding someone who can really understand your struggles and accomplishments

Note that i'm not making fun of anybody with one of these diagnosed conditions(i have a mix of ADD & depression, myself). I just think that it's rather singular to find a place that uses it as its strong selling point.

Pointless anecdote: A friend married an anime fan who liked to dress-up and go to conventions and stuff. She eventually left him for some another anime cosplay person that she had been chatting with online and my friend felt dumb.

I think mentally ill people tend to attract other mentally ill people, in my anecdotal observations. I kind of hate the term mentally ill.

hmm 1 in four people are a bit you know, different- special - socially i looked around my friends and they all seem ok, so that means its me right? do i qualify?
I also dislike this misuse of statistics, not by this person in particular, but when someone with a bold point to make is like, "One in four women gets sexually abused. So between your mum, your wife, your daughter and your grandma, one is or will be abused!" No, not nec. one of those four people. It is problematic because it makes me imagine these four people sitting around having coffee and chatting and then SURPRISE 25% BUTTSECKS.
I also dislike when things are phrased like, "Someone gets raped every 15 seconds." It makes me imagine a guy sitting there with a watch, waiting for 15 seconds to tick by before he has at his roofied date.
end tangential complaint.

― Trayce, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 01:50 (eighteen years ago)
what about psychopaths ?
― warmsherry, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 01:53 (eighteen years ago)
I can see how this might be a very useful and good thing, too. But with many of the schizophrenic people I have met (I used to work with that population)...it seemed kindof impossible to make them aware that that's what they actually were. And these were the types lucky enough to be taking their meds regularly.
― Bimble, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 01:59 (eighteen years ago)
I've befreiended a guy who is... I'm not sure what, not schizophrenic, but he has been on haldoperidol and is constantly doped on tranqs so its extreme anxious depression at the very least. I find talking to him oppressive in the extreme, though I can relate to him, all he ever goes over is his meds, his freakouts, and even his writing is completely SOAKED in death, rotting, viscera etc (in a Gira kind of way I guess). I've been avoiding him as a result, because right now I'm doing very well myself and I cant handle that or prop it up. I feel a bit guilty, but what else can I do?
― Trayce, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 02:02 (eighteen years ago)
what ever became of k3rry k34ne, does anyone know?

any dating site with a fan fiction section is surely to be avoided.
― s1ocki, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 02:57 (eighteen years ago)
more talk of anime weirdos.
― Misery, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 12:17 (eighteen years ago)
I was disappointed by the lack of furries on a cursory search.
― Ed, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 12:20 (eighteen years ago)
On that website under testimonials: 'Flibberty found someone - In love... got lucky here will send pic when we both lose 30 pounds he he' -someone is having mad mental sex everyday
and Trayce, keep avoiding him. writing too much about death is stupid.
― CaptainLorax, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)
Um, Trayce, don't give yourself any obligations that aren't actual obligations, especially taxing and unneeded interpersonal ones.
