she was already a friend, but at Club Kerrang! almost three years ago, she asked me about the girl i was then sort-of seeing, and then said, "what about you and me?" i blathered ineffectually but honestly about how i was still messed up after my dad's death, how i was still hung up on someone else, how i was just a big mess. ten minutes later we were kissing each other's face off, and ten more minutes later, speeding to my flat in a cab. it lasted almost three years.

I was about to make a trip with the radio station kids back from CMJ (in New York) to my college town (in Virginia) and this guy says, "I'm sitting next to you and talking to you all the way back, like it or not." It was something like an 8 hour trip.

OK, I've told this one in the upfront propositions thread. The only girl I pulled in 2003, when I was lonely, fed up and trapped in Manchester, made eyes at me in the Fez Bar and then moved close enough that we ended up dancing. We exchanged about 5 words and then made with the kissing faces. If my self esteem had been higher that night, she'd never have suceeded. I rejected her proposition after closing time by running for the bus.

A friend of mine said "I love you" in Japanese at an Italian restaurant outing one night, and then wouldn't tell me what he actually said (I don't speak Japanese!), which kept me bothering him suffiently long enough to find out what (presumably horribly insulting) thing he said to me that night that in the meanwhile he convinced me to go out with him, and THEN told me what he said.

It probably would have been for best, had I not been so curious what he said, but at the time the whole thing was quite romantical.
