Somewhat inevitably, Swygart shills for the club night that him and Dom and elwisty are DJ'ing at tomorrow night in Leeds

Yeah, been putting off doing this but am now getting quite horrendous butterflies. It's called Nuisance (elwisty: "Let's name it after the Menswe@r album!" Everyone else: "eh, go on then), it's at the Bar Phono in Leeds' popular Merrion Centre, it's 2 quid on the door, the list of bands on the back of the flyer goes something like:

Beatnuts. Dead Kennedys. Super Furry Animals. Talulah Gosh. Notorious B.I.G.. Void. Girls Aloud. Dinosaur Jr.. Skinnyman. Fig 4.0. Delgados. Sir Cliff Richard. Fallacy. Kid Dynamite. Futureheads. Kim Lian. John Cena. Narcosis. Saint Etienne. Housemartins. Johnny Cash. MC5. Dismemberment Plan. Helen Love. Hank Williams. Limpwrist. Prolapse. Big Black. Big & Rich. Mohinder. Petula Clark. Sex In Vegas. Minutemen. Kenickie. Pavement. Gwen Stefani. Kyuss. Kim Wilde. Morrissey. Hall & Oates. Good Clean Fun. A-Ha. Unicorns. Ludacris. Against Me!. The Honeycombs. Le Tigre. And if you know me then I've probably wibbled at you about it all ready, but I'm currently that jittery about it that it can't really hurt to do it again. Even though there's about five people on this board in Leeds, and three of them are DJ'ing at it. But hey-ho. It will be fun. Honest.

you should play a song by each of those bands, in the order they're listed. 'Freebird' is perfect for chucking out time.

$V£N! (blueski), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Note: we may not play John Cena, as I've now heard the album, and it's shit.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Tscch. This is what happens when we make lists after you've had small amounts of alcohol.

Right, now to go and flyer Futureheads fans and try not to faint from nerves eeeek. If you're in the area, do please head along. Our disco needs YOU, etc.

Will DJ Martian be along to heckle?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Psst Alex, get onto MSN as there is a track I want from you so I can play it at my indie disco.

WBS - I think I saw you crossing the Otley Road, outside the Original Oak at about 5:00 this evening. This is judging only by a vague memory of your photo somewhere on here. Anyway, I should have said hello, but feared doing so lest you think me a mentalist. I may come to your disco after work tomorrow if I can garner a posse to accompany me.

Adam Faithless (Adam Faithless), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Mr Faithless - this is quite plausible.

And it's at this point that I realise I should have put 'Wednesday' in the thread title rather than 'tomorrow'. Oh dear.

I'm not really sure how it went, to be honest, beyond us winding up £6 down on the door. They let us stay till 2, we got people dancing... I dunno. I think I might have set my hopes rather too high for turnout during exam period etc. 22 through the door on a Wednesday night is probably quite decent, considering.

But fuck it, they danced to The Cardigans, the people there seemed to pretty much enjoy themselves, and we're definitely thinking of doing it again. I am anyway.

we had an autopsy...

elwisty (elwisty), Thursday, 12 May 2005 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

22 for a first night, given that your flyer's quite specific, is OK. The last time I did my thing we had 10, which was during exams as well. But that was including us and the barstaff. And a bit depressing.

Plus, y'know, dancing's always a good sign.
