peter d (peter dee), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

conversely Ro-land is now only 7st 4lbs.

$V£N! (blueski), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Why didn't they try to get Zammo's ex (Jackie) on there?

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd like to see Birtles again.

$V£N! (blueski), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked whoevere it was who sai 'some of the people here, its like, lets leave it another 18 years.' that presenter is a cunt

lukey (Lukey G), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

So, what "happened at the White House" re that "interview" with the guy who wanted "no part" of the "reuni"on""

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps someone can go and chase Justin Lee Collins with a camera in 20 years' time, as he emerges from his Restart interview at the job centre, and see how he likes it.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

This was a fairly pointless gaff to do wasn't it? Not too long ago we all saw these ex GH cast members in a computer magazine playing games.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone has to do it.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Ex Grange Hiller: "I know who you are!"
Justin Lee : "REALLY???!!!"

Bless 'im.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Bailiff: "I know who you are!"
Justin Lee in 2015: "no you don't..."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

About a quarter of the way through it struck me as painfully obvious that a bunch of Nathan Barley producers had been hoovering coke in the Bricklayers Arms whilst pondering what to do with the new 'talent' of Justin Lee Collins that had been thrust upon them. This was the result. (Other clues: most of the locations - Hoxton and 'ironic' Lakeside, twentysomething crew trying to be part of the action, etc)

Huey (Huey), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Well it could have been worse - they could have sent Saira Out Of The Apprentice on their trail, with her bullroarer.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

are these programmes on terrestrial tv? (i dont really have time for tv anymore)

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, it said C4, i see now

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i saw some programme with that presenter on - hes a t**t , he thinks he's funnier than he is, i was compelled to hit a button on my remote that was the colour of red.

conversly i saw modern toss on tv last night and was delighted, as i have the book, but the programme was better....

battlingspacemonkey (battlingspacemonkey), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Would he be just an average twat if his voice weren't so annoying?

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

no its the way he has lameassed jokes and the audience kept laughing, and something about his teeth....wierd.

but yeah probably if not for the other factors just averagely annoying/.....

battlingspacemonkey (battlingspacemonkey), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

These days, whenever Itchy and Scratchy come on The Simpsons, I wish it were Justin Lee Collins there instead of the cat.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

is that the presenters name? thats how much attention i was paying.... (while staring at his weird mouth and odd teeth)

battlingspacemonkey (battlingspacemonkey), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

so is this the same guy as the FAQ U programme? blimey, I've not watched either of these progs but he's not doing very well so far.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

who decided that JLC deserved all this airtime? seriously, what the fuck?

N_RQ, Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, two progs, one after the other? I guess he's making a living...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The story about the White House and them having to pledge in front of a stadium full of people not to take drugs was quite interesting. There's something that could have been explored there, about how they were manipulated, I suppose that's for a less stupid programme.

Interesting they missed out cute little Robbie Wright aka John Alford.
I would have thought he'd be the obvious star??

hobart paving (hobart paving), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess he's making a living...

and in the top 3 threads at ilx, the man's a genius.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It was rather heavy on the irony, wasn't it? All the "ha ha ha, magnificent song" deadpanning got irritating pretty swiftly.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess he's making a living...

SO WERE THE CAMP GUARDS AT AUSCHWITZ

Anyway, C4 are clearly missing Graham Norton.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't John Alford in prison or something? I seem to remember him being found guilty of something (not reading Heat or the tabloids being a bit of a drawback here) at about the same time he was sacked from London's Burning.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Now he's gone top four!

Possession of cocaine.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

From what I remember he was the one being offered drugs in the video, too - someone who made that video was PSYCHIC!

hobart paving (hobart paving), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

(xpost)

Which he probably bought off Johnny Vaughan.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

So is it "Take the rap, son, and we'll have a nice media career for you when you're out" ?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

-- mark grout (mark.grou...), May 11th, 2005.

Who knows? Whatever happened to......?

He had two top 10 hits, apparently. Before his drugs SHAME.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Annoying beardy twat did try to interview little Robbie, who has been released from prison after serving 9 months apparently, but didn't try very hard. He turned up at his workplace late afternoon, to be told that Robbie/John had left half an hour before as he was working earlies that week, but if he came back the next day between 8.30am and 3.30pm they would catch him. Rather than taking this obvious course of action, he decided to ineffectually stake out Robbie/John's house all night long for two nights.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, this is what happens when you don't watch the start of TV programmes, and then attempt to comment upon them...

Workplace? Where is this, then?

I am not going to stalk him, really.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

it was one of the worst pieces of TV i've seen in some time. very badly edited too. and absolutely insulting to our intelligence.

beardy cunt: OOH i don't even know if ANYONE WILL TURN UP! THEY'VE NOT EVEN CONFIRMED! er, cue procession of grange-hillers getting out of identical silver BMWs hired by the production company.

and the whole thing about them being difficult to track down ... for fuck's sake. who are they kidding? jesus christ, look in the phone book! or use some of your "journalistic instinct" and get the fucking electoral register up on your computer! twat.

also: why no gonch? still: ziggy-bloke's professional-scouser act (hat, fag, phone, lager, swagger) was joyous to watch.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I hated the bits when JLC laid on thick what a 'classic record' Just Say No had been. I had an awful image in mind of the kind of people up and down the country actually laughing at his inappropriately pitched mockery.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

question: ultimately was Moloki Christie avoiding the reunion because he had a toke and couldn't endorse the Just Say No message, or was he just a precious twat?

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Both, plus he had the sense to run away from the JLC while still ensuring he got his face on tv with his author piece

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i blame nick broomfield

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think that being hounded down by a nonentity on camera against someone's will and then - quite rightly - refusing to participate gives anyone the right to call them a "precious twat."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I found him smug and superior about what was ultimately a harmless reunion. The bit about the hounding and the nonentity I'm more than happy to agree with.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah but since Mmoloki Christie was also in Press Gang he will probably hunted down again in five years time.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Bronson's got to pay.

$V£N! (blueski), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

did they track down Gripper Stepson?

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I really don't think hounding people against their will constitutes a "harmless reunion."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Gripper was there.

Who was the West Indian guy who had NO FEAR OF THE GRIPPER?
I have the phrase "If Grippah come near me I flatten him man" embedded in my memory from one episode (along with "waatch where you goin' man" and "don' do that again man").

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Why have I missed so much TV lately? (answer possibly related to being abroad, and watching CSI. A lot).

Alix with an i? (alix), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, you've got a life, haven't you?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.grangehillfans.co.uk/vidvault/villains/gripper1983.rm

See Gripper's final moments.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

If the fellow's got more interesting things to do and wants to put his child acting career behind him that's fair enough. I just thought he handled it in a rather unimpressive way. As for being hounded, it hasn't happened to me so correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt whether it's quite the trauma you're making out. Besides, he's quite possibly entitled to some sort of veto on what goes out.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno, i kinda liked him. i felt that behind the preciousness there was a sly twinkle in the eye.

of course, the thing with a programme like that - ie one so obviously constructed on half-truths - is: who can you trust? how do we know his apparent uncooperation wasn't all part of the "plot" of the show?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

(i mean, ok, that cynicism could be applied to all documentaries, but this one didn't even have the sense to tape up the gaping holes. it really was jism.)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a life that usually involoves watching unhealthy amounts of tv.

Alix with an i? (alix), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno, he seemed polite but firm. Mind you, I left it just after the first meeting in the foyer, so maybe he got more uptight later...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

he's have been within his rights to punch JLC out. i din't see the prog, you understand, i'm just talking general 'rights of man' type stuff.

N_Rq, Wednesday, 11 May 2005 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

-- Japanese Giraffe (nihonnokiri...), May 11th, 2005.

Would wanting to forget that song and the fact that you EVER HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT make you a precious twat?

I found his bit the most interesting part of the programme.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

Arguably the best ever Doctor Who guest actor (six different parts, five different doctors). RIP.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 10:54 (twenty years ago)

The first of three autobiographies, Yes, Mr Bronson: Memoirs of a Bum Actor, was published in 1997.

That's overegging the pudding a little, isn't it?

Still, RIP. Good actor and apparently nice chap.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 10:59 (twenty years ago)

!

i'm sure i've mentioned this like 20 times, but i have a SIGNED COPY of Yes Mr Bronson. he was always hitler.

Britain's Jauntiest Shepherd (Alan), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

And he was in "Auf Wiedersehen Pet" as Herr Grunwald too.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 11:25 (twenty years ago)

He was also always Himmler. Though not at the same time.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

RIP. by all accounts he was a top, top bloke. and his portrayal of bronson was perfect.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

I think Mr Bronson was one of the first TV characters I really HATED, and I mean that in the good way of course. Mrs Mangle would be the other.

Gripper made a brief re-appearrance about 2 years later; he was working somewhere as a delivery boy if memory serves. maybe that was in Tucker's Luck.

Anyway, so much chat and no mention of Gonch becoming a Student Union elected officer somewhere in the 90s.
